OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

why does it say at the top of this thread "branched to a new discussion", and when I try to follow the link, I get "access restricted, contact administrator or person who directed you here?"

who is my administrator? who is "person who directed you here"? There are no links to contact them. Why are these unprofessional, clumsy diagnostic messages on the Apple website?

after 10.10.4 update my console is spammed with multiple messages like:

LOTs of them!

What is going on with Apple programming?

As for me, I am now pretty stable with wifi and a little bluetooth (magic mouse and sometimes external speaker) on my retina macbook pro late 2013 model. I do not know if this is the latest Yosemite update 10.10.4, that fixed the issues that I used to have. I use Airport Extreme (square box model, with dual band n wi-fi), and no tweaks, all on automatic settings. I do have 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks assigned with different names, though.

Replying to myself, but be advised:

After buying USB 802.11ac adapter: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/USBAC56/ wifi looked fine, I got good connection speeds in LAN and WAN.

BUT and a BIG BUT is that now occasionally MBP Pro 15" Retina reboots itself. So my decision was to uninstall ASUS driver, put adapter away and use USB 3.0 HUB with 1GE ethernet connection and pull cable across my living room.

I've never seen this before, I downloaded latest drivers from ASUS website:

ASUS USB-AC56 Utility 2.3.3(For MAC OSX)

Driver version:Mac (ver. 2.3.3)

Now my MBP stays alive, no sudden crashes and reboots and I'm using this: http://www.macally.com/EN/?page_id=21416

Since MBP has only 2 USB ports, there is a need for USB hub and that is ok for me, I get 1GE interface with that and it is only working eth interface for now.

I did replace my three years old Airport Extreme for the new one and my Wi-Fi stopped dropping during downloads. It was ten months ago. Now my late 2012 i-Mac Wi-Fi speed is randomly decreasing and as result I can't connect to any web pages. Just like before to restore functionality I have to toggle Wi-Fi "OFF" and back "ON". It's evident that the problem was created during introduction of Yosemite OS. The rest of my Apple devices are operating without any issues. How long it takes for Apple to correct this wide spread issue? I'm not sure if they still care. The customers are no longer priority, share holders are.

Update from my. My replacement card (second hand) arrived and I put it in a couple of days ago. It seems to be mostly better. It still sometimes hangs a bit after waking from sleep or log-in. but a restart seems to fix it for the sessions which I can live with until a real solution comes along, or a new computer. I am not entirely convinced that it is fixed and not just a coincidence. I'm still waiting for my update to respond to my El Capitan request. I tried again but it says code already redeemed but nothing happened. I figure I'm on some list their servers are working through to keep the load down. Both my own iPad mini 2 and iPhone 6 have been updated. Only issue is with my Pebble app on iPhone...

I knew it was too good to be true. Well at least I have crossed the wifi-card off the list. Well at least as far as fault is concerned, unless the replacement was faulty too...... Weird the dongle works ok.

I feel so exhausted by this issue. Please Apple, tell us what's going on? What's your thoughts. Obviously this is harder to solve than anyone anticipated. We understand. Just talk to us **** it... One can only try huh peeps. They not going to answer... Ever... I'd really prefer to replace my computer and router and be done with it. But it's just not on the budget. Business has been hard lately. Maybe my poor ability to communicate with my clients is starting to effect the reputation the process me... I really hope not.

OS X Yosemite (Tested up to 10.10.4) doesn't seem to like the 5Ghz UNII-1 band with 802.11ac

Tested and Replicated with WPA2 Personal PSK and WPA2 Enterprise 802.11x PEAP auth.

- Join channel 36-48 = connection starts ok then TxRate immediately drops to MCS0 or MCS1 rates, disconnects under load.

- Join channel 149-161 = client obtains full TxRate rate, varies under load.

We have tested this on several access points (HP 560 J9846A) and with several MacBookAir6,1

Also observed onMacBookAir6,2 and iMac14,2

Downgrade to OS X 10.9 Mavericks and WiFi works perfectly on all channels, so it's not a hardware issue.

So.......218 pages and has Apple ever responded to this? Over 3000 replies to this thread and nothing from the mothership?

We have a late 2011 MBP that we had zero wifi problems with......until we turned on our Bluetooth for the 1st time. Ever.

Took it into a genius bar, twice on the same day. Told the rep the problems I've read here concerning bluetooth/wifi problems. His response "This is the first I've heard of this. You can't really believe what you read on the discussion boards. People can just type whatever they want there" Uhhh.....okeeeee. Spent 6 total hours waiting and lo and behold, it's "fixed". Until we got home, 2 hours away, and wifi is not working again.

Googled this problem and did probably 6 different "fixes" none of which worked for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I know......the Edimax 7111 Wifi adapter !!! Ordered it Sunday, got it today. I install the updated driver from the website and voila!!! Wifi again !!!

For about 35 minutes. Back to nothing. Wifi is off. Turn it on. Nothing. Available networks flash on the available networks screen and disappear. The Edimark logo flashes on top of the menu bar at the top and disappears.

I guess the next step is the El Capitan beta. We are basically out of options, short of a reinstall of Maverick.

After 3 days of testing it seems that I can confirm that @dynamc1's tip is really helpful.

I had my 5GHz WiFi router set to channel 40 and nothing but problems.

Now I changed the channel to the highest available (which is 140 in Europe) and all the problems seem to have gone.

No solution for 2.4 GHz though...

Thanks to @dynamic one for figuring this out.

I have same Wifi and Bluetooth issues on OS X 10.10.4 (and 10.10.5 Beta).

Wifi and Bluetooth work fine on OS X 10.11 Beta. After compare Network Service Order on Yosemite with El Capitan, I see "Bluetooth DUN" not exist on El Capitan. So, on Yosemite, I remove 'Bluetooth DUN' in Network Service Order, reboot, and bla bla... Everything work like a charm.

Remove 'Bluetooth DUN' in Network Service Order as below (first add it and remove):

Open Network Preferences, click '+' sign, Interface and Service Name: "Bluetooth DUN" > Create.

Launch Terminal, run:

networksetup -listallnetworkservices

You will see "Bluetooth DUN" in terminal screen.

And run:

sudo networksetup -setnetworkserviceenabled "Bluetooth DUN" off

(Addition, may run: sudo networksetup -removenetworkservice "Bluetooth DUN")

Ensure "Bluetooth DUN" removed from Network Service Order (Open Network Preferences, click dropdown sign, Set Service Order.. not exist "Bluetooth DUN", or simple, run command "networksetup -listallnetworkservices" in termial)

Reboot and test.

Finally, "Bluetooth DUN" must not list in Network Service Order, Wifi and Bluetooth issues done.

Hope this help.

My worst Wifi problems are gone with 10.10.4, I never have minute-long disconnects of connectivity (while the WiFi-Interface stayed connected), so I am pretty sure this was linked to discoveryd. Shouldn't everyone who still has WiFi problem state if they already updated to 10.10.4 or 10.11?

I thought I was in heaven.

Because of shoulder problems, this week I had to break out my bluetooth keyboard and magic trackpad this week and, lo and behold, the two started disconnecting twice a day (batteries fully charged). I had to unpair and re-pair them to get them working again.

I now tried this 'Bluetooth DUN' voodoo dance, I'll keep you posted if it helped.

best regards

simon
