Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

Tom

    it the process hangs because DNS is causing round robin then nothing will get through

    Why would the router (a DNS forwarder) cause a DNS round robin?

    I have two Macbooks, a 15" from 2012 and a 13" from 2013.... the WiFi issue is with the older one.. Hardware can only be band-aided so much by software....  Thinking of selling the lemon from 2012 as the issue has been place for almost 2 years.

    OK, Round-Robin DNS is where a DNS resolution will provide several possible IP addresses, and rotate them round - this means that the load will be balanced across several servers.

    What I have noticed when the WiFi drops, sometimes Layer 3 ICMP (Ping) will get through but for a very short while, while Layer 7 (Application Layer) will be blocked.

    Have a read through this link for more info on the OSI model.

    And let's see if lots of people are having issues with WiFi dropping --for years.... and no new code makes a difference and other computers on their WiFi networks do not have ANY issues.. there is BUT one reason --APPLE HARDWARE defect.... Since Apple Software cannot fix it.... Q.E.D.

    Just a thought.

    Are there any 3rd party WIFI dongles that have their own drivers?

    I'm wondering if anybody has tested these on OS X Yosemite?

    I did look a while back for wifi dongles but they all seem to use the MAC drivers and as I had the same problem on the wired LAN i figured it must be in the OS. Just a crazy though but after reading through that link you supplied but has anyone tried changing their duplex from auto?

    Interesting as I've not had any issues with the cable.

    That's always been my resolution to the problem.

    If there are issues with the cable, then it could quite possibly be something related to OS X's inbuilt firewall.

    Look - this is a fact

    1) Network Failures All Over The Glove == Yosemite

    2) No Network Failures All Over The Glove == Mavericks

    3) Booting into Mavericks on This Here Computer == No Network Failures.

    4) Booting into Yosemite on This Here Computer == Network Failures.

    Mavericks == Software

    Yosemite == Software

    If one Works flawlessly and the other does not, Hardware == NOT KAPUTT

    I know that frustration is reaching peaks and rightly so... But please keep it FACTUAL

    It's sad. I can confirm that yosemite 10.10.1 did not fix anything. Wifi does not work right after start just like 10.10

    Moreover turning it off then back on does not help. Connection is lost a couple seconds later. Things just got worse.

    AC wifi mode lasts less then 10 seconds.

    Apple is a shop of poor lame programmers now. very sad

    You and I both know that not to be true.

    whats the matter with you...

    There is a glitch yes. And such happens to the best. Its frustrating as heck YES... But IMO Apple is supplying us with fantastic software and hardware. Second to none. Comments like that aint gonna help no one. Why don't you create a report and send it to them. Help fix this instead of this.

    Another 3 disconnects, all from 5GHz in the past 10 minutes.

    Tried to connect to a 2.4GHz and the mouse wouldn't respond to movement, it was all over the place.
