Apple has an unique wireless security protocol, more complex and challenging to establish a solid, permanent connection. Most likely you will improve connectivity by temporarily removing your network security. I do not recommend running an open, unsecured network for an extended amount of time. I do not want to repeat my self but historically Apple devices were always challenging to connect due to a complexity of security protocol. I'm an electrical engineer professionally involved in improving hardware quality from various suppliers in automotive industries. I'm not a programer or a software developer, therefore do not want to get involve in Yosemite troubleshooting. Most if not all of the fixes on this forum are temporary because are not eliminating a root cause which without duplicating is tricky to eliminate for some forum users, even with an advanced software knowledge and troubleshooting skills. What I do not understand is that Apple programers are taking so much correct it. They created and implemented for public use the Yosemite program as "world most advanced operating system" and now are having trouble with reproducing, isolating and eliminating the root cause. I eliminated, hopefully permanently my network connectivity issue by replacing 3.5 years old Air Port Extreme with a new router, also Air Port Extreme, last Friday. Since then didn't experienced a single WiFi drop. It's possible that my problem coincided with the Yosemite instal and could be that the new operating system exposed a premature degradation of my old router. Well, again without knowing a root cause everything we do on this forum is just a pure speculation.

Therefore, this is something Apple has to fix. If we were talking about a free open source software system, it would be a different story.

I have Cisco Aironet3702i and Aironet2702i in Autonomous Mode and found the slow throughput when connected with 802.11ac
Here is my experiment.
- Tested with Aironet3702i and 2702i with WPAv2 AES-CCM = Slow Speed (~5-6MB/s)
- Tested with Aironet3702i and 2702i with no encryption = Fast Speed (40-50MB/s)
- Tested with Aironet2602i with IOS Version 15.2.4JB6 and 15.3.3JAB with AES-CCM = Slow Speed (~3-5MB/s)
- Tested with Aironet2602i with IOS Version 15.2.2JB3 with AES-CCM = Fast Speed (~20-25MB/s)
It's seems that something has changed on Cisco IOS software and OS X Yosemite that might conflict each other.
Now I have to roll back to Aironet2602i with old firmware to use on 802.11n

I went in to the securities settings and changed them from the default WEP to WPA and rebooted my router and my macbook pro and it works now! Apparently, this new upgrade does not like the WEP technology. Good luck!!!!

I am presently at a home in DOuglas AZ where the Wifi has been working nonstop on my MacBook Pro and my iPad.
As others have said, these problems are often random and despite many who are having them. The problem is radomly manifested depending on many variables. We think be cause Apple is not sending constant posts telling us what they are doing that they are doing nothing, but they are working on many issues at once.
Patience is a virtue. I know that is hard when one's work depends on it and mine does.

Nov 21, 2014 2:14 PM in response to tomstephens89by chip.r,Well, I'm glad to see that it's not just me but I'm a little amazed that this thread has over 1,300 posts and over 250,000 views! I have 4 apple airport extremes spread out over or property while Mavericks had some issues with bluetooth interfering with wifi, this is much worse. I have a nice movie of my system cycling through various connections followed by drops and Network Diagnostics repeatedly asking me for keychain access even though I say "always...".
I finally got a quasi-stable connection but even after that, Airport Utility still thinks the airports are unavailable:
This is quite frustrating and can be a real problem. Unfortunately, this thread is so unwieldy I don't know where to look for a workable answer or if there is one.

The Mac mini doesn't find my network... My old Mac mini (2012; OS X 10.9.5) and my MacBook Pro (2010; OS X 10.10.1) are connecting to my wifi network without any problems. I'm very disappointed. One of the most important features of a brand new computer isn't working.

Nov 21, 2014 9:58 PM in response to halcwbby hfw999,I have no idea what the problem is I just posted something that worked for me, in the hope that it may be helpful to someone... I can sit right next to either router and only the extender remains connected. I have no trouble connecting to the main router with my 2 PCs or Windows laptop, old snow leopard mac, iPhone, Android phone or TV. Its only the yosemite mac that does not stay connected. Interference? well maybe Yosemite is more sensitive...

Taking into account all the fed up users that don't take the efforts to spend their time on forums... I think you have a serious problem here. Since my latest Yosemite update I have problems now as well. Don't even want to go into the details. Apple, just fix it and do your basic homework!!! (you then can go back and further experiment with continuity and other nice to haves...)

Regarding SSD's for your Mac(s), exercise a little caution and be aware that Apple has disabled TRIM Support for 3rd party SSD's in Yosemite. Reports are that using enabler tools to get TRIM Support running can result in situations where the machine won't even boot. I installed an SSD on my late 2009 MBP late last spring and it worked flawlessly until I tried loading Yosemite. The problem I encountered...corrupted drive...could have been the result of the disabled TRIM Support or it might have been user error of course. Nonetheless, I'm glad I dropped back to Mavericks and plan on remaining on Mavericks until wifi and other issues, like this SSD thing, are finally resolved.

i tried so many options and nothing worked. Finally, I turned off IP6 on my router and I am back to normal.

Nov 22, 2014 8:38 AM in response to tomstephens89by Chilly224,Since downloading Yosemite my Wifi has gone from around 40Mbps to about 5Mbps. Most websites won't load, and if they do it takes an average of 5-10 minutes. The weird thing is that my internet works perfectly when on large Wifi networks, such as public hot spots or libraries. It is only my home Wifi that has been utterly crippled. Not only is my productivity for my job being hurt by this issue, but I am paying for home internet that I can't even use.
Apple, if you are going to release an update make sure it works first. This has become a common occurrence, and you are one more screwed up software release away from losing a very loyal customer.
Get your stuff together and get it fixed.

Nov 22, 2014 12:20 PM in response to tomstephens89by jag3er,Same issue on my iMac. The macbook air on the same network with the same Yosemite version is unaffected. Along with multiple iPhones and iPads and apple tvs and even work windows laptop which work just fine.
I resorted to using my iPhone's personal hotspot to link my iMac to my AirPort Extreme router Until Apple gets their $hi... act together. I don't have time to troubleshoot Apple's problems. So iphone hotspot works well for that.

Nov 22, 2014 1:41 PM in response to tomstephens89by Stssa,since last week mine is doing better, I changed the setting on my router band to 2.4G instead of 2.4B+G+N. It does become unresponsive sometimes. I would say its 70% back. It was really bad up until last week.
