Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I have a macbook air 13" 2012. After installing Yosemite I got the WiFi-problems as well.. The speed seems OK but it keeps disconnecting after >5minutes.

It seems that as long as I keep my WiFi occupied it won't disconnect (downloading or streaming etc). But as soon as it isn't used it just disconnects (after loading a website etc)

How long has Yosemite been out? Why doesn't Apple just fix the problem? Why don't they just give us an update with the old WiFi-drivers?

Hi, did the 10.10.1 update and my new MBPR started having the lost connection problems, for a couple days. I have a Belkin AC750DB router. It was set to 2.4GHz, and reading previous posts, I tried switching to 5GHz. It's been several days now with no dropouts. To view your setting, hold Option key down while clicking the WiFi icon in menu bar.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem where safari and/or chrome just stall while trying to find servers. This seems to be something to do with Yosemite deciding to use bonjour before any DNS lookup, and the bonjour doing nothing and blocking the browser.

On my 2012 mac mini the internet is now unusable as random DNS requests never seem to leave the MAC. On every other PC and device the internet is perfectly fine.

This has been a problem since first yoesmite beta, absolute joke that this still isn't fixed in 10.10.1.

Apple sucked me in to buying a new iPhone for the new continuity and other features, only to suck you in more by seemingly deliberately knee capping older macs. I'm not falling for it again. If it a 2012 machine is not capable of running yosemite they should just say so, and I can then go and sell all this apple junk.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) on 10.10.1 (14B25) and having the same WiFi issues that others have reported. I can't access the internet at all even though it says I'm connected on Wifi. My router is an ASUS RT-AC87U on the 5Ghz band.

Since updating to OS X Yosemite my iMac cannot connect to my Airport Express. Worked fine before, not now.

Same problem with MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) and OS X Yosemite v 10.10.1. Does Apple Support offered anyone a fix or a statement of intent to fix?

    Wifi !!!!!!!!   This absolutely *****!  (<------- Edit. I'm not even allowed to say "s u c k s" ???)

What is Apple doing? I remember when I upgraded to Maverick's I had the same wifi problems. And now again with Yosemite?

I've owned Macs since 1995. That's nearly 20 years of buying Macs! And I swear if this problem isn't fixed this week I'm buying a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for me. I'm pulling my hair out here! And I'll dump the iMacs at work, and our iPhones. iOS8 was a nightmare also, still is, but not like this. Continuity? Hah!! Discontinuity is more accurate. Had to turn all that off because it doesn't work properly. Anyway, better not rant.

I can't believe Apple have changed so much in the last few years. They used to focus on customers. Now it's just profit. They are SO lost without Steve Jobs. No way would Steve have allowed so many dodgy products to enter the market like this.

You've losing me Apple. You're headed in the wrong direction. Stop being a marketing company and get back into tech innovation.

My wifi stopped working with 10.10.1.

I have tried all the suggested avenues on this thread to fix this, but none have worked. I also had the same issue when I upgraded to Mavericks, incase they're related.

Are there any fresh ideas that anyone is aware of before I throw my MacBook Air back at the manufacturer...who deleted my last complaint. (I hope this is more to your liking Big Brother. PS: I am VERY annoyed at this situation)

I had this problem a few days ago.

I tried everything to fix it, eventually, I just turned off my macbook air's bluetooth and so far it has been fine.

    NO THANKS TO APPLE!

Same as you tried everything suggested on this forum to address my late 2012 i-Mack dropping WiFi issue without a success. Decided to replace a 3.5 years old Air Port Extreme 4 with a new Air Port Extreme 5 and my WiFi signal is stable, not a single drop in almost a week. Apple has much more complex network security protocol which makes establishing and maintaining WiFi connection challenging. The fact that I had to spend $200 to replace the not that old router makes me angry. Well, they stopped supporting my older router with software updates several months ago. It stopped with a 7.6.4 update while the new fifth generation router has a 7.7.3 software installed. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the Yosemite dropping WiFi issue but stopping supporting a previous generation routers is not a customer friendly decision. There is one thing Apple still does the best; taking more and more of customers money without significant quality improvements. I'll still not go back to Microsoft based products but if the challenge with Apple software continue I'll have to consider.

Couldn't agree with you more.  The focus is now too much on $$$$, not creating great customer experiences with user-friendly and effective products. It's like it's got to a stage where you wouldn't put it past Apple to sabotage their own products to generate more $$$$.

I'm just getting sick of all the problems when people I know on other systems (Microsoft, Android, etc) are having zero issues compared to what I've gone through the last few years.

Made a mistake and upgrade last night. My almost new iMac useless for internet.

I have a wi-fi issue since I got the iMac but apple work on my case and said that no one else has an issue I guess they were wrong!

Hope they can find a solution 'cause is very annoying to surf the web... takes for ever

Looks like a Ping thing to me.

If I stream music from the cloud my connection is stable with No drop outs. Been going over an hour so far, and still going, without any wifi problems. Best result I could get before this was 2 mins without wifi problems. Mostly 30 seconds with dropouts.
