Nov 26, 2014 4:35 PM in response to jfialkowskiby hexdiy,This comment of yours is looking great, jfialkowski,
most plaintiffs (sorry for the paralegal term, it seems most convenient) here seem to use older routers, be it 3rd party or older Airport extremes/expresses.
Maximum Transmission Unit may well be another factor to exclude out of the equation.
It may not solve all problems in this here swamp, but surely may help solve some!

Nov 26, 2014 4:52 PM in response to cubismby hexdiy,Hi Cubism,
the thing with OSX is that it rebuilds caches over time. Thence my "Safe Mode" and "clean start" suggestions: they clear caches. So thank you for corroborating my theory!
At least now we know the blimey Yosemite can behave sometimes. Next will be finding out what exactly misbehaves...
To be continued...

Nov 26, 2014 5:12 PM in response to cubismby hexdiy,Cubism, as you have read, Airdrop may be a serious spoiler here. Turn it off and try again. And thank you, I feel we're heading in the right direction here! At last.

Nov 26, 2014 5:32 PM in response to hexdiyby cubism,Would you happen to know this?
When disabling AWDL and AirDrop, after typing the following command at the OSX terminal: sudo ifconfig awdl0 down you are then asked for your password. When I enter this and hit return I get NO feedback at all. Even when I enter my password the cursor does not move.
Is that normal? I'm not 100% convinced I've disabled it.

Nov 26, 2014 9:56 PM in response to sisterlucyby stefci, now I am running it 24 hours. from time to time there are some ping dropouts but this is I guess because of the ISP in the hotel where I stay try to disable bluetooth adapter. Handoff I have still enabled.

Nov 26, 2014 10:28 PM in response to tomstephens89by onesmalldrop,Has anyone running a mid-2012 MacBook had any success of any kind? (I've tried disabling AirDrop, creating new network locations, deleting network pref. files, etc.) Nothing has helped in the slightest. Like many 2012 users, my WiFi doesn't disconnect, but it slows down to 10kpbs or less for hours at a time and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Nice name: It reminds me of the boat we're all in, where no matter what we try to get Apple to fix this, we're just a small drop in the ocean to them. Most will be hooked up on Mavericks, or on Ethernet, blissfully unaware of our turmoil trying to stay afloat.
Yes, I am on a Oct 2012 MacBook Air, and yes, I can connect, but for 3-mins max at normal speed (when I restart) and then I'm relegated to the same 1 - 100 kbs speeds you also get.
I have tried EVERYTHING on this forum, and EVERYTHING available on searching Google. Nothing works longer than 3 hours. Most only work for 10-15 mins.
The pain is, MacBook Airs can't connect to Ethernet without buying extras (like a Thunderbolt display). I run a small business, so lack of Internet is crippling me.
I've been solely on Macs now for 20 years. I own a MacBook Air and 7 iMacs (for work--which is 500 miles away. I prefer to work from home, and I'm not flying 1+ hours to get Internet!)
When I updated to Mavericks years back, same thing happened with WiFi....
[I got booted due to WiFi. Thought I'd lost all this message but the forum autosaved the first half. Can't be bothered retyping it all]
Basically, if 10.10.2 doesn't come out this weekend, and also fix this WiFi AirDrop/Bluetooth issue I will be saying goodbye to Apple after 20 years. I will be following the route of my friends who wave their Microsoft Surface Pro 3's and their Android Moto X's in my face. They look like good and reliable devices, which is what I need with work. Apple have had way too many problems in the last year for my liking.
About to press send. Praying it works...

Nov 27, 2014 1:54 AM in response to cubismby rickfromadelaide,I found the wifi issues stem from wireless router settings used with Mavericks and previous OSes.
Yosemite appears to want more secure settings.
Change the wireless security settings on your router to those shown below:
Network Authentication to WAP2 -PSK and Encryption to TKIP+AES.
These settings produce rock solid wireless with Yosemite but give Mavericks the very same wifi problems.

Nov 27, 2014 7:53 AM in response to rickfromadelaideby eas2156,you could also try reserving ip addresses of devices that connect to the router. I logged into my dlink router (dir-615) and manual wireless set up, clicked reserve, save and save. the router rebooted, and so far my macbook 5,2 (early 2009 model) is connecting fine. I turned off ipv6, refreshed plist files, restored the host file, etc. as well, just in case, but reserving the ip addresses seemed to do the trick for me. it was very frustrating, so maybe this idea can help you, good luck~

if we make these various suggested changes (I have made quite a few) then Apple eventually releases 10.10.2 whats the worst that can happen? These changes get revered or these changes stop 10.2 from working or....
