Nov 29, 2014 2:27 AM in response to DougGJosephby vitalya_pn,I did many things. Disable AVDL0 helped only for 12h. But last thing I did - I changed router security settings from AES to TKIP-AES. Now I have 3th day without any problem with wifi. Does anyone tried it?

I had given up with no other "fix" working at all.
I BOUGHT AND INSTALLED A NEW WIFI ROUTER (from Walmart of all places as they were 5 minutes from my house)
Disconnected my old DIR-615, I was going to update the firmware and decided not to and just buy a new router so I can start from a new connection.
My new router is a Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart wifi router...yes I paid too much IMO for a new device but I had not a whole lot of choices left after Black Friday zombie shoppers....besides my wife and I both use our MBP for work and work was not getting done.
Setup was guided and very easy with minimal input by me.... I have a 2.5ghz and 5ghz band.... All the devices besides my MBP 2012 I connected to the 2.5ghz band, I connected the laptop MBP 2012 to the 5ghz band; (knock on wood) I have not had any problems since I did this. A couple things to note as I'm not a networking geek: 1. I have not restarted the MBP yet, but connection worked immediately upon "waking" after last night. 2. BT is off (I don't use it for anything right now) 3. I did not change any MTU, ipv6, DNS, proxies, blah, blah, blah...just followed the guided setup which was 5 minutes or so and it did not ask me to change any of these....
Hope this (buying a new router) isn't the cure for all the Yosemite wifi problems as not everyone can drop a lot of $$ on a new router.

Nov 29, 2014 12:16 PM in response to tomstephens89by OceanDrifter,I have experienced WiFi dropping and have contributed occasionally to this thread. I had tried all the 'fixes' without success. I did not suffer from speed issues.
I have also been engaged with Apple.
There was a file, pcloudd.plist, in /Library/LaunchDaemons that dated to 2011, which was identified as a likely cause. It's an old Iomega file. I deleted it and restarted.
WiFi has been stable for the last 4 hours - remarkable.
It may be worth emptying your /Library/LaunchDaemons folder and seeing what happens, and adding .plist files back one at a time.

No issues on 10.10 and after updating to 10.10.1 today I started experiencing these WiFi issues... A quick fix would be nice Apple :-)

I too was okay with 10.10. 10.10.1 was the offending culprit which ruined my life
Plug into Ethernet if you can, and remember to NEVER NEVER EVER upgrade your Apple OS again.

With Yosemite's issues, does Apple really want to help Microsoft sell Windows 10?
Choice Apple: no viruses and unreliable WIFI (when you need it the most)
Choice Windows 10: Buy the anti-virus and use all the WIFI you can stand.
After 20 years of enjoying Macs, Apple is forcing me back to the Darkside.

What on earth is apple doing??? Wifi is something so simple and they managed to complete make it useless, keeps dropping every minute, i have to use my bootcamp windows partition in order to get rid of this big headache from wifi in 10.10.1.
So...after a couple of weeks trying to find some fix (i need to use OSX for my business), i manage to find a temporary solution, wifi only drops when there is no activity, so what i did is open iTunes and choose any Internet Radio stream from the list and keep it playing on background with volume on Mute, so with some non-stop activity wifi doesn't drop anymore, of course it will drop sometime later because apple screwed the driver, but its better than dropping every single second.
It would be great if apple could read the discussions over here, this is just insane what they are doing to costumers.

First thing was to upgrade to yosemite and have been suffering the same wi-fi issues as everyone. Have watched and tried all the ideas, switch off Bluetooth, remove all historic wi-fi and re added my home wifi only and whilst it doesn't seem to drop right off I am getting the slowness.
Currently have to switch off wifi and switch back on again and that seems to fix it for a while (30 mins or so) then it starts to slow again, eventually getting to slow to use, so another reset. Whilst this is a quick thing to do, it is a constant annoyance.
Certainly takes the edge of spending the £1300 this thing cost me.
COME ON APPLE GET IT SORTED.

Talk about switching to the "darkside", or buying a competitors system, etc... is not beneficial to the fix and ads static to the thread. This thread is already huge enough.
Now, technically speaking, I have had 4 Days of rock solid Wifi. All I did was set my MTU on the Wifi card to 1400 and rebooted. I have the latest Airport Extreme AP, and a late 2011 MacBook Pro. Try it people it worked for me.
I think the problem is more upstream. I just don't think things like most cable modems even some wifi routers, like big packets. Since the packet is too big, it fragments the packet into size it can forward. When this happens you can get delay, and in some cases packet loss. An end user sees this as slow browsing, etc pages that won't load all the way, etc... Google Path MTU and you can read all about it.
This may go over heads but interestingly enough, I have seen a similar issue when you encapsulate TCP/IP in another protocol like GRE. In that case GRE was encapsulating an already large ethernet packet, thus making the MTU just a bit larger and lead to massive fragmentation and slowness across the Internet.

I've tried all the work arounds and none help.
It is worse if you are uploading files. I'm trying to upload videos to my account and it stops every couple minutes.
It has taken me 20 minutes just to post this.
I don't want to have to do this from my old linux or windows box.. Bahh
Get with it apple..... PLEASE

Do have a look in your /Library/LaunchDaemons folder, which contains user .plist files.
It was a .plist file from 2011 that was causing my problems between the OS and the Router (identified by Apple)
(specifically a file called pcloudd.plist - i deleted the file and then did a Restart).
For a belt and braces approach you could copy the all the contents of the /Library/LaunchDaemons folder to a new folder on the desktop, then delete the folder's contents. Restart. See if your WiFi is stable.
Add back .plist files to the launch Daemons folder one at a time
NOTE the folder /System/Library/LaunchDaemons is Apple specific

Every time if there is an update I have to wonder if my portable device or computer is going to function properly after an install. What has happened to the trust? Personally, I do not think there is a bug in the Yosemite program. I believe that Apple made some changes or "improvements" in wireless security protocol, which was already complex, causing some older routers or modems to function improperly. I my case, after couple of weeks of unsuccessful troubleshooting I decided to purchase a new Air Port Extreme to replace the 3.5 years old Air Port Extreme 4-th generation. Now I have no WiFi signal drop out in almost two weeks. My older router after resetting to factory specifications is functioning as a part of my network extension in the bridge mode.
On a side note; getting technical an searching for fixes, beside good intentions is ineffective because none of the remedies offered on this forum are working. I did try all of them and wasted tremendous amount of time implementing it. Good luck to all of you but at this point replacing network router could be the only solution. I'm sorry but waiting for Apple fix could never happen.
