Dec 9, 2014 3:27 PM in response to mccoshaby nhcowboy,I used name bench and found a better DNS server ( 208.67.220.220 ) that is 26% faster than Googles 8.8.8.8. I set my ethernet and wifi on my mini mac to that, as well as my Ipad Air2. Mind you I had to downgrade on my mini mac back to Mavericks with time machine backup to do it since Yosemite left me dead in the water for going online. At least now I have fully functional internet again, I'm done with flashy promises from Apple that spoil the whole bunch.

Dec 9, 2014 3:34 PM in response to Bob7777by nhcowboy,After reverting back to Mavericks to regain my internet Yosemite completely disabled, I still found Safari to be very slow loading pages. I installed the Chrome browser from Google and it flies! With Yosemities bugs everything Apple had that made my experience awesome is rendered useless for me. I can appreciate it's not for everyone but I feel abandoned having everything Apple and everything problems. Last year was a dream, this year a nightmare. I'll never update again, it's just not a good experience for me personally.

Dec 9, 2014 7:10 PM in response to Frank Kruszewskiby nhcowboy,I rolled back to Mavericks from Yosemite with a time machine backup. I have a one terabyte external backup drive that holds backups going way back. I restarted my computer holding the command and R buttons and it comes up with a screen giving an option to restore with time machine, so I restored my computer to the latest backup before Oct 16th when I installed Yosemite. You can Google "restore with time machine" for clearer info. It can take a few hours as it's essentially a reformat, mine took about two hours and maybe even less. In the begining it's estimated time was longer but it sped up as it went along. I was willing to risk not having any computer if something went wrong, than deal one more day on Yosemite in utter frustration and dismay. I,can buy a cheap PC at Walmart and know it can go online, I mean really! Fortunately all my recent emails and all of the others were all there and imported as an option, easy peasy! I tried downloading Mavericks stand alone style from the App store (where you go for updates on your computer, not iTunes). It was still there under "purchases". It did download but said it couldn't be installed, can't remember the exact reason but a silly one to be sure. Mavericks internet works, plain and simple and I need it for my business. Google's chrome browser I installed far exceeds Safari for workability. It's new to me but immediately and observably much quicker at loading pages and just plain working. I entered time machine again to retrieve and restore files made after my Yosemite so nothing was lost. Time Machine is one thing Apple did right. I prefered Yosemite for air drop and continuity and will miss it, but not having internet was beyond maddening and inexcuseable for a computer company. No 4K resolution brand new expensive Mac for me (that I had saved for). I would have been pretty pissd to spend so much money for a computer that may not be able to navigate the internet. Is this Ed & Irma"s computer company or Apple, the largest most profitable computer company in the world? Hard to know, with Yosemite I couldn't go online to find out.

Dec 9, 2014 9:05 PM in response to jilloopy dillupunktby nhcowboy,Does anyone have the new Mac 27-inch: 3.5GHz with Retina 5K display? I have saved up for one but have pretty much ruled out even considering buying it now, after the dismal wifi connectivity problems on my mini mac that forced me to revert to Mavericks. I'm curious if wifi issues are plaguing even the flagship Mac? If I could fresh install Mavericks I would, I know I can get online with that. But since it comes with Yosemite I won't touch it. Maybe a time machine backup to my Mavericks system would work? Then again, it'd be stupid to buy the latest and greatest only to downgrade the operating system. Are there any owners of the 5K display that have wifi problems?

Dec 10, 2014 12:18 AM in response to nhcowboyby PFJ30,I Am curious as to why you would want to use wifi with a 27" Mac. Isn't it a desk top machine? Won't you use Ethernet? And I dont think this is the best place to find happy users! Maybe Google "Mac 27" and Yosemite experience " ?

Dec 10, 2014 2:12 AM in response to nhcowboyby trev1124 ,My mate just bought 27" iMac came pre-loaded with Yosemite connected to wi-fi without any problems.
What can you say? .... maybe i am wrong but I think a new Mac stands a much better chance of connecting than an older model, although of course this is not a certainty!
I bought a new 21" iMac 2 weeks ago again pre-loaded with Yosemite connected to my wi-fi without any problems.

Dec 10, 2014 2:29 AM in response to trev1124by Hervedubois,Strange things for me...I was having an Imac 27 late 2009...was working and still work perfectly on WIFI after yosemite upgrade. I just bought a new I mac 27 with Yosemite pre-installed on it and it was working perfectly. I even got my Time Capsule backup on it...Everything was working heavenly...I decided to upgrade the memory of the new Imac 27 with adding 8go of memory...Memory is recognize perfectly...But since WIFI is was mess..impossible to connect properly with it.
So I try the SMC and PRAM tricks without solving the problems. And yesterday, I decided to rebuild the TimeCapsule and reformat the hard drive on it with airplay and adding a WIFI 5ghz on it. Can you believe this, since then my WIFI is working perfectly again on this new Imac 27. And I can log on the WIFI TimeCapsule (5Ghz) and on the original WIFI (2,4 HGZ) network in the house without problems. Sounds there is something wrong in the settings of the Time Capsule that was memorized after the power chord disconnection of the new Imac. Hope my experience can help someone. But I agree i was a mess to only being able to get internet via an ethernet cable running through all the house.
I precise I live in France. -

You do realize some people live in houses, houses have many rooms and floors and most are not wired in every room???? -
Dec 10, 2014 3:31 AM in response to mccoshaby PFJ30,Hi
I was a bit hungover when i posted earlier - perhaps unwisely! I have never had a machine with main display over 23" that wasn't fixed in one place and thats the place where i would ensure I have ethernet. I did not mean to downplay the terrible mess Apple has dumped so many of us in; I am just thankful that 1 or other of the fixes in this thread and elsewhere AND the downloading of Yosemite "clean" / in full after fitting an SSD last week seems to be working for my wifi connectivity.
Wishing you and all others not yet so fortunate all the best for a resolution soon.
Regards, less hungover PJ30

Dec 10, 2014 7:10 AM in response to PFJ30by nhcowboy,I currently have a mini mac late 2012 and the way it's always been set up is as: cable into the modem>ethernet from modem into the router> then router to my mini mac. Do you think this is wrong or would it have worked better another way? I have a router (brand new Airport extreme) so that I can use my iPad air 2 and gen 5 Ipod. With Yosemite my Ipad Air 2 wifi connection was superb and I had no complaints-just the Mini Mac was busted and I need it to conduct my business. I think this is the standard way of connecting a router right? At least that's the way it's always been connected for me and the default way if I remember correctly to connect my router when I first got one. Could I go from the modem into my mini mac and somehow come out of the mini mac into the router, so that only the router is handling the wireless mobile devices and the internet first goes into my Mini mac with no router as middleman? I'd like to upgrade to the 27" computer and have an awesome one for many years to come, but I'm hesitant with the problems I've had re: wifi/ethernet issues with Yosemite on my Mini Mac. My revert to Mavericks has been very stable for internet use now, but in Yosemite not only did the wifi drop off and basically be useless, the ethernet would show as disconnected in Airport Utility a lot too, then turn itself back on but internet was extremely slow at best, and at worst would not go anywhere at all! . I'm actually depressed to have spent so much time and research actually wanting to make it work but nothing I did worked for me, I can envy the "fixes" that worked for others. Yosemite has probably worked for a whole lot more users than it has not worked so I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones unfortunately. Its versatility to air drop things off my Mac to my Ipad Air 2 and vice versa was great! And I really enjoyed the handoff feature as well
I'm hoping 10.10.2 will be a final solve and then maybe I'll be daring enough to upgrade back to Yosemite. The air drop, spotlight, notification center and handoff I used a lot and enjoyed but not being able to go online at all of without serious lag times or no internet at all forced my hand to time machine back to Mavericks. C'mon Yosemite, I want you to work for me, I really do!

Do you think this is wrong or would it have worked better another way?" nothing's wrong with this, in fact this should work fine andt I would say this is standard too
as long as you have something working (Mavericks), I would just wait until apple fixes the issue (hopefully with 10.10.2) and then consider upgrading -
Dec 10, 2014 9:25 AM in response to eas2156by Stssa,Im tired of having this problem, 10.10.1 was better than this latest update I installed couple of days ago (14 some letters and numbers). Mine used to disconnect upon waking up and now its dropping constantly. I cant even work anymore.
