Dec 12, 2014 6:29 AM in response to Julchen15by OceanDrifter,Not an unusual situation
I have only found problems in one place so far
My 2011 laptop is currently having a new airport card fitted. I have changed routers and base stations. Then there should be no hardware that is old in the chain. We'll see what happens.

Dec 12, 2014 11:09 AM in response to Julchen15by therealikt,I am starting to doubt their ability to fix it. They keep desperately seeding betas for public input; this tells me they aren't that close to a solution. It is unusual behavior. Perhaps their veteran software engineers have left the company or are not getting the resources they need to fix this.

Dec 12, 2014 11:17 AM in response to OceanDrifterby erluk9,It's utterly insane to me that people are switching out hardware thinking that is the issue. The router you had previously that was working just fine with Mavericks is STILL working just fine. The method of connecting to it has changed (Yosemite). You should not have to go through these hoops because Apple screwed the pooch with this OS.
I've tried all the options listed here with the exception of turning off Bluetooth. Doing so renders my mac mini unusable. THe apple keyboard and Apple TV remote communicate to this HTPC via..... ding! BT!
Finally got my tool kit to add an SSD to the mini and will be doing a fresh install of Mavericks, which by the way, had ROCK SOLID wifi performance. Apple, it doesn't "just work" anymore with problems like these.

Dec 12, 2014 4:20 PM in response to tomstephens89by Kirill Nazarov,A fix that will hopefully work for you guys and hasn't been mentioned here as far as i'm aware.
1) Go to your network preferences and click on the advanced tab while your wifi is selected
2) In the DNS tab you'll find 2 numbers, write down the top one
3) In the TCP/IP tab copy the IPv4 address and set the 'Configure Ipv4' to 'manually' and paste the IP in the now empty field
4) Back in the DNS tab write down manually the number you copied earlier in step 2 using the '+'
5) Check if it worked for you, if not try using the other number instead of the top one.
Good Luck guys!

Dec 12, 2014 8:45 PM in response to therealiktby SirRandolf,I called Apple to see if I could get any other advice on fixing my wifi problem. The guy was very helpful, he said it probably was the computer and not my router, but he hadn't heard of any problems with Yosemite...
Still the only fix that has worked so far is turning off my bluetooth and then when the internet drops, renew Dhcp lease and then connect and reconnect.
I just wish I had a backup of mavericks... Gah.

Dec 13, 2014 1:43 AM in response to erluk9by admin501,Have you changed your wireless router settings to WPA2 and AES encryption?
Alternatively WPA2 with KIP+AES (for backwards compatibility with WPA only routers) which is also called PSK2 - mixed mode on some routers.
It took all of four minutes to change to these settings producing ROCK SOLID wireless networking.
Has anyone who still has issues tried booting to safe mode to see if the wireless issues still persist?

Dec 13, 2014 7:30 AM in response to Julchen15by nhcowboy,Julchen, I read online somewhere that the entire problem may be related to airdrop. It stated something to the effect that if you're anywhere near other users and have airdrop enabled to "contacts only" or "everyone", instead of off it could perhaps makes things go haywire. Check to see when you're at University that your airdrop is set to off. I seem to recall in the article, that even at that the system may still know others nearby have airdrop enabled and pick up on that and thus the wifi problem. Try and see if by setting your airdrop to off if that helps, it's an easy to try-hope it does :-)

I think this might be the article you are referring to: https://medium.com/@mariociabarra/wifriedx-in-depth-look-at-yosemite-wifi-and-aw dl-airdrop-41a93eb22e48. It's not quite as simple as turning off Airdrop, but Mario's tool will do the trick.

Dec 13, 2014 8:08 PM in response to hexdiyby cubism,I'm on the same Appleseed testing...and the stupid thing is I can't provide feedback because the Feedback Assistant App won't let me.
I replied to Apple telling them this but have only received an automated reply a week ago. I've tried everything to supply feedback! Crazy!
Can you sort this out please Apple as I want to tell you that the latest update has taken WiFi a step backwards from the previous install.

Dec 14, 2014 12:26 AM in response to tomstephens89by OceanDrifter,I only experienced wifi dropping at one of the many locations where I work. I therefore had no reason to suspect a hardware fault. At the location where the Wifi drops, other computers work fine, wirelessly. However, at the location where wifi dropped I did occasionally get a 'no wifi hardware found' upon restart (this did not happen anywhere else). Apple could not find a fault with the wirelsss card.
I changed the ISP supplied modem/router for a TP-Link 8817 and I connected an Airport Extreme - these did not resolve the issue
I tried many solutions suggested on this forum and other solutions suggested by Apple who were very helpful over many hours. I know more about my 2011MbP than I ever did !
Many fixes gave false hope simply because of the unpredictability of the issue.
I have now fitted a brand new wireless card and ribbon connector and have not had a WiFi drop since, which is now 3 days.
That seems to have been my solution, I hope.
I only installed Yosemite on one of my machines. It will be interesting to see what happens with others that have similar airport cards - am I ready to see ?

Dec 14, 2014 1:50 AM in response to OceanDrifterby cubism,Since it's no secret, very indirectly, that Apple has acknowledged that WiFi issues are a software issue it needs to resolve, it may be worthwhile waiting for this to be resolved before going out and buying new modems and forever playing with settings, etc.

Dec 14, 2014 7:03 AM in response to cubismby OzziesMAC,They never did fix the firewire bug on Mavericks that is still around now with Yosemite. (External Drives Not Sleeping On FireWire).
I think they ended up calling it a new feature.
My home network is all ethernet (No WiFi) and my Mac Mini running Yosemite still drops off the home network at will. This problem is not limited to WiFi.
