Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I really have to say, that this entire issue is nothing more than pathetic! The mentioned Wifi problems exist since several month, but Apple is just not able to finally fix it. If you ask me, this is an evidence of incapacity!!!

Hi Yosemite Users, i have a macbook air 13'' and before about 1 month or longer, i haven't any troubles with WiFi.

I'm playing wow and the hole time during playing that after few minutes (10-15) the connection to the server will be lost but the icon WiFi is activated with all connection lines. In about 30sec the connection to WiFi is back. It really bugs and i hope Apple has as soon as possible a hotfix for this problem.

In my case it's more or less like that.

The AirPort icon remains black while Dropbox's one will turn gray (beside having web sites that suddenly don't load, Dropbox is a good indicator that something is going wrong). But I have to manually turn it (AirPort) off and on to regain my connexion.

    With all the other complaints:

After the previous update my MacBook Pro 13' Mid2010 with SSD boot time went from around 30 sec to about a minute. The wifi connect took another 10-15 sec after that - so much for updates!

Had to do the new update yesterday via cable, because I couldn't get any wifi connection at all - even though 5 others were working fine.

    ....update....

(Coudn't reboot the router at the time, because I was working online with another machine.)

    ....router-reboot - just in case....

Today the boot takes about 30 sec + 6 sec for wifi-connect - tried 5 times. So far the wifi performance has shown no performance drops.

So at least for my system the update seems to have been an improvement - so far ;-)

Same here. Everytime I wake up my Macbook Air Mid 2013 from standbymode I have to turn off/on wifi because i have no Internet connection. (The Macbook is connected to my wifi but the Internet does not work)

    It's just ridiculous.

I have the same issue since Yosemite came on board.

MacBook Pro 13 Inch  Mid 2009

While on Maverics no issue at all.

Once i update to Yosemite not even a single site was opening.

Tried all the tips and tricks I could find online and nothing worked.

I enrolled to the beta program and connected an ethernet cable in the middle of my living room to my MBP. We are living in 2015 and paying 1000 bucks for hardware that dont do the basics!!!!!!

None of the beta releases worked and i am updating today to the release 10.10.2 .

This is the last chance for Apple... no more iphones and ipads.

I can buy with half the price windows machine that i can throw to a wall...

    thanks

Seems like apple is watching and care. I got an email from the wireless department a couple of hours ago and submitted diagnostic file etc.

I hope my submission will contribute to fixing this issue.

I hope so... 'cause all the time I turn on my bluetooth, my wifi goes down.

Basically until 10.10.2 as soon as I switched BT on the Wi-Fi throughtput just dropped to ZERO so I'm among the luck ones with "minor" problems compared to complete connectivity blackouts.

Now with 10.10.2 I can have BT on without anything connected and the system suffers only some loss mainly in download speed.

If I additionally have my Magic Trackpad connected through BT (connected and not just on) then both the download and upload speed drops seriously.

Each measurement ran at least 3 times (speedtest.net with the same host server of the ISP) resulting in the following mean values in our main office with an ISP flashed D-Link DIR-615 on 802.11n; 2.4GHz range; 20MHz spectrum. (RSSI and Noise are “constant” in the measurement runs.)

DL/UL (Mbps) location #1 (close to the AP):

    Nexus 5 (reference): 38 / 15

    BT OFF: 38 / 15

    BT ON ; no device connected: 35 / 15

    BT ON ; trackpad connected: 18 / 15

DL/UL (Mbps) location #2 (edge of the coverage area):

Nexus 5 (reference): 6 / 5  (physically placed between the MBA and the trackpad while those are connected through BT just to create some radio interference)

    BT OFF:  15-25 (wide spread) / 15

BT ON ; no device connected: 5-20 (wide spread) / 9

BT ON ; trackpad connected:  0-8 (wide spread) / 5

I have removed the Bluetooth PAN from the connection list (no using it anyway) and no "fix" seems to effects the results seriously (turning off AWDL, unloading and reloading discoveryd, turning handoff on/off,SMC reset, PRAM reset, running diagnostics, Safe mode disk repair, creating new network location, rearranging service order, the only thing I’d not done was applying the KEXT fix).

Judging from the RSSI and noise measurements and that the Tx rate remained the same I can simply not blame this on hardware or radio interference and all comes back on the software.

    MacBook 13" Retina Mid 2014

Bluetooth and WiFi doesn't work well together since I've bought it. WiFi only works great, but after I connect to a bluetooth audiostation, the WiFi signal breaks down. Seem to be a problem with 2,4GHz, because it is the same problem when I use a bluetooth usb dongle for a Keyboard. If the dongle is plugged in, the internetconnection goes down to 100kb/s. I assume that this might exclude a problem with the WiFi/Bluetooth-module.

However Handoff connection with iPhone works well. Also the iPhone can connect to the audiostation without lacks in the downloadrates via WiFi.

    MacBook:

    WiFi = good

    WiFi + Bluetooth = bad

    WiFi + iPhone = good

    iPhone:

    WiFi = good

    WiFi + Bluetooth = good

    WiFi + iPhone = good

I just want to thank all of you who went ahead and installed 10.10.2, and then reported your experiences here. Gone are the days when I never had to worry about an OSX update, so I have been hanging out here, waiting to see whether the new version works for anyone. Thank you for sparing me some additional headache. They really don't seem to be able to figure this **** out. *sigh*

*Still only getting semi-stable WiFi connection on my mid-2012 MBP, in a certain spot in the house, with the MBP facing a certain way - as ridiculous as it sounds, I am just glad I found one spot where it works... BT has been turned off for months. Good times...

lol, 151 pages, and Apple thinks I would trust them with Keychain or my photos in the Cloud, maybe releasing the iWatch on time should not be their highest priority.

iWatch - coming in Spring 2015

working iWatch software - coming in 2017

Yesterday spent a couple of hours with Apple Tech. They emailed me the day prior about the issues I posted here. All kinds of tests we ran yesterday and have been running Wireless diagnostics since. Since yesterday I have not had to reboot because I lost wifi but have gotten a few diagnostic messages detecting "dropped connection"

Speedtest speeds are still all over the place. was at a 58.94 download speeds and 28.75 upload speed. Downloaded a file which was 500MG and it did it at about 7.2mbs and took at most a cpl of minutes. Decided to download another file which was 455MB. the download said it was going to take over 4 hours and speed dropped to 27kbs. Ran another speedtest and download was 1.13mbs and upload was 28.55Mbs. Doesn't ever seem to affect the upload speed.

Restarted computer and back at 58.76Mbs download and 28.56Mbs upload. Reloaded the 455MB file and speed was at 6.1Mbs and took less than 2 minutes. Frustrating but wanted to let you all know they are trying to figure out the issues.

    Fingers Crossed.
