Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I had the same issue, i.e. unresponsive internet via wifi on the Air with a non admin account but everything worked fine with the admin account. Very strange thing is that the Internet with the Guest account (non admin) worked...

Anyway, I tried switching the non admin account to Admin, and tried the internet,  it worked.

I then reswitched back the account to non admin account and Internet seems still working... Fingers crossed it stays...

I have the same issue since i installed Yosemite, my wifi stop working a couple of seconds after i get connected in a Macbook Pro 15' Mid 2011. I use 2 of the workarounds at the same time and is working for a couple of hours. I delete the SystemConfiguration folder and Changing the IPV6 configuration to Link Local Only.

I'm hoping that Apple cix this thing, is so annoying.

There is more strange stuff happening in Yosemite.

Now I have my MBA listed three times in Finder as shares:

    myMBA, myMBA (2), myMBA (4)

So I can see my MacBook Air 3 times and Yosemite numbers them nicely! Interestingly Yosemite omits count (3) and jumps to (4)?

Anyhow I have SMB sharing enabled for a Windows PC, but never had problems like this with Mavericks or Lion.

BTW on the Windows PC I installed Win 10 customer preview and I have to say, that WiFi works w/o issue on a MS customer preview, but not on an Apple release OS...

    Hey All -

I just wanted to throw in my WiFi woes into the pot.  Keeps dropping 15-20 times per day.  My router is a TimeCapsule, and none of my other devices drop.  I never had this issue before the update.  I do not know what triggers WiFi dropping, as sometimes it will go all night long, and other times it drops 3-5 times in an hour.

I made the Switch from Windows to Mac in 2003 and never looked back.  However, the problems all of my Mac hardware has been having of late (iTV that cannot stream videos anymore, iPhone with horrible battery problems, iCloud issues galore, and now this) are pushing me back towards Windows.  I do not know what is going on there in Cupertino -- but I miss the days when stuff didn't get released with all kinds of crazy problems, and if there were, Apple was quick to acknowledge them and patch them.

This makes the computer almost unusable.  Very frustrating.  If all my hardware at home wasn't already OSX based, I would be picking up a maxxed out Surface to replace this.  If I cannot get a stable WiFi connection in the next few months out of Apple -- that is very well what I might do.

Everytime I wake up my computer, I have to manually connect to Wi-Fi, even though I've select "connect automatically" in the preferences.

I too have the same problems with my Macbook Air late 2010 running OSX Yosemite..i'm lucky if the wifi stops for 5 mins without disconnecting so I've tried your solution & i'm going to see how long it lasts! Its so infuriating as it keeps asking me for a password for my wifi then says invalid password so I turn the wifi on & off an it reconnects! V strange, so far they are both stable i'll cross my fingers and hope your solutions works, thanks for the solution

I've tried all the fixes listed here and some work for a short period of time, but eventually stop. I'm at the point where my macbook is completely useless at home unless I use my phone as a hotspot. And Apple has yet to respond? Unacceptable Apple!

Is Unbelievable how Apple is treating this case!! At least no consideration with the users/customers!!! More then 5 days and no pronunciation from them!! Missing Steve Jobs in the command...

I am having Wifi problems too with very frequent drops. I have no solution yet but I do have two observations.

    1. I only drop with Bluetooth on. If I switch Bluetooth off my wifi is fine.

    2. While posting this, I am running in safe mode and haven't had a drop yet. I have only been connected for 10 minutes, so maybe it is coincidence, but since I was dropping every 30 seconds or so before it is definitely better. Maybe this info helps in finding a solution. (I have tried every fix on this thread so far.)

So a question: does your problem persist in safe mode?

    Hi tomstephens89

I was having the same issues with my WIFI after installing Yosemite. I contacted applecare with the issue and they advised me to follow the below steps, which i have done and so far i have been able to keep my connection and pages load faster then they were perviously with yosemite.

They advised the following to be done:-

First turn off Wifi. Click the Wifi menu in the top right corner then click Turn WiFi Off. Then open Finder (Smiley face icon in Dock) Press COMMAND SHIFT AND G on your keyboard to bring up GO TO FOLDER. Type in the Following path. /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ Capitals must be included where they are in the path I have provided. Hit the enter key. Delete the following files. NetworkInterfaces.plist, and preferences.plist.Restart your Mac by clicking the Apple logo in the top left corner then click restart. Turn wifi back on once your system has rebooted and rejoin your network.

    I hope this helps you.

    regards

    Tony

Both my Ethernet and wifi say connected but won't access internet.  Nothing has made them work.  Has anyone heard comment from Apple?  How do we install an update or fix with no connection?
