Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I read a piece in a paper recently, that stated Tesla was poaching a lot of Apple engineers. I seriously hope Elon Musk got the entire Yosemite network crew... (Or do I really want something on the roads that these yokels have been messing with?

Probably, wait, until the first Tesla upgrade bugs are worked out before taking out on the road.

Well, this lightens the mood a bit!

    OK

What a breeze, my new hobby, commenting on threads about "issues" regarding my set-up/system to do the magical things technology facilitates. Spinning beachball was a new concept for me until recently. I believe windows users also have their  name for this. That is the whole point. As apple users we pay a premium to escape this "****". But I'm back in it. "edited by host" thank you for that jndupuis you have just indicated to me I'm on the right track. Who are you? Be careful, you've just told me and any other readers that my suggestion of embarrassing apple with bad press is scary for you. This issue is growing legs, legs walk and can even run, clearly corporate embarrassment is the way to go. You fear this. Apple have created this "family" concept where criticism is a no-no and just keep believing and everything will be OK. Well, everything is not OK. Your customers are aggrieved, you've released a tragically inefficient product, and I'm renaming it "yoshite". Please, please, please tweeters, face bookers, grab this and run with it. Welcome to Yoshite, the worlds worst, and most expensive headache.

All here have tried to post suggestions, settings and work-a-rounds as this is Apple Support Community to help each other with suggestion and possible solution. Do you have anything to offer other than dissension to cast upon a fellow user? Yosemite has issues, yes. The work is still on going and all have the frustration. This the Apple Support Community you must be looking for the Apple Feedback Forum, right? Fill out the form and hit submit. As we move along now.

I do believe Apple should, during this time, make available for download their known good stable releases of OS X free of charge to registered Apple ID's. Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks. So their loyal and many customers who are experiencing problems with Yosemite can revert back to get themselves up and running again. The Genius Bars, as well, should be readily available to assist Mac owners to revert their Macs back to a known stable past release of OS X that is capable of running on their computer. Basically, Apple "making good" to their customer base as Yosemite is still under development. Simply reaching out to Apple with this request and I do not believe this request is asking too much. Free downloads of past OS X's for registered Apple Users is not asking too much. Upgrade to Yosemite should be inevitable to Users and Apple when Yosemite becomes a working, stable release for all Macs. Apple, give us this option. I wish Yosemite would have been more thoroughly tested before release for Upgrade, at least 6 more months. Enough said, on my part. I'm just repeating myself from one of my previous posts. Cheers to all, again, who are hanging in there!

Neither of our two retina macbooks can open a single webpage on 10.10.2 whether or not bluetooth is on. Not one. Ever. At all. Tried for days. Both were fully functional on Mavericks. Both could open webpages on 10.10.0 but only if bluetooth was off.

    Says it all really.

So much for wireless and bluetooth standards.

    So much for os x.

    So much for apple macbooks.

Thinking of drawing a turd over the apple logo and trying to log into gmail using a spare housebrick I have lying around outside.

And nothing anyone has said in this entire thread or on any website has made ANY difference.

I agree fully with making SW available (new MBA came with Yosemite and Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz dies when BT is on and connected).

I decided (as I use my MBA also for work) to actually spend money on a 5GHz 802.11ac wireless range extender and that works like a charm...

Now I'd even joined the Apple Seed program as I wan this problem sorted once and for all, but lots of people simply want something that "just works"...

So what my only option for getting Maverics would be to download the installer from a pirate site...as Apple is not making it available as my MBA came with Yosemite...

    Marvelous...

Akos can your mac receive 802.11ac? (listed in About This Mac -> System Report).

Ours are only 802.11 b/g/n so I don't expect your solution to help us.

Actually a/b/g/n but no ac. So are you using 802.11a or 802.11ac?

    Ahoy,

802.11ac yes it supports...80MHz wide beam...Might actually work even on 802.11n on the 5GHz range but don't have anything to test it against...

So no worries...The bluetooth issue is not limited to "old" hardware ...

Wi-fi dies on any 2.4GHz mode (b/g/n) if I have anything communicating on the bluetooth...If nothing is connected then I just recieve a 10-20% speeddrop "bonus" for having it on...

Can you try 802.11a please? Our macs cannot receive 802.11ac.
