Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

Interesting mazzjnr. I have read scarce reports like this, but not here. Good luck!

However I've been reading up on Terminal. For the slightly uncouth: how about this: kill IP v.6 neighbor discovery, just as an experiment, nothing permanent. Open up Terminal and type:

ndp -a -n to find IP v.6 addresses and

ip -6 addr flush scope global dev eth0

    to get rid of them.

Probably valid till the next (re)start. Any improvement?

Back when I had troubles, switching to Chrome made no difference.

Still no wifi problems at all since increasing my modem's transmit power to maximum; I think it's been 4 days or maybe 5. It was fine for all of Mountain Lion and Mavericks on its lowest setting. No changes made to hardware over that time.

Hi all. I have had the same issues, but I have solved the issue. Dual band routers run 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels, and by default. they are synced together.

Its best to do this via ethernet....

Turn off the 2.4 ghz / 5ghz syncing in your router settings and name the channels uniquely, and problem solved.this sitting is under the 5ghz channel settings. Some older devices aren't compatible with the 5ghz network. Your wifi should show up as two seperate networks, and in most circumstances both will work on your device. hope this helps

I'm ready to call it quits on this thread. I've spent hours trying to reproduce the issue again, but I can no longer make it happen, so my contribution to this thread will be of little value. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones for a change. I'm not convinced 10.10.2 is what fixed my issues, I suspect it had more to do with me improving the signal of my AP. Somehow Yosemite seems to have a much lower tolerance.

I will say that although I understand the frustration caused by the lack of feedback from Apple, I think the fact that multiple unrelated issues and "workarounds" are being discussed probably adds to the aggravation people feel, so it's important to keep that in mind when replying.

Mine is exactly the same!! Updated to 10.10.2 recently and noticed wifi dropping out after any sort of break of using safari...then I noticed it was actually dropping out WHILST using Safari - after I reconnect with the wifi network I have approx. 3-4 minutes max of internet time before it drops out again. Very irritating!! Especially as I spend most of my day on my laptop at uni, in lectures etc and need internet to be loading VERY quickly - hence why I purchased a macbook!! Only had it a few months - letting me down with all these bugs - please fix asap

You are right, wombat2k, I should hold my tongue  and let the matter rest. It is not really my concern anyhow. Were it not of something I've discovered tonight. Laterally, whilst researching some Time Machine failure.

I wonder if Apple has licenced some Ubiquity soft/ firmware or has silently bought Ubiquity all together. As we all know, Ubiquity is now the basis of iCloud. ubd or Ubiquity Daemon is its startup daemon. The root for a huge amount of legit WiFi network chatter.

Ubiquity itself has changed its name as of late to ubnt: http://www.ubnt.com/broadband/

But if they have ever delivered firmware for third- party routers or other networking gear which is still hanging on, we might be faced with a huge nomenclature problem on Yosemite.

    Just being curious!

Could you guys test out something for me? At my place it solves my wifi issues:

    - create a new user

    - logout of the main(admin) user

    - login to the new user

    - logout from the new user

    - login to the main(admin) user

    - check web speed test and see if your wifi is normal again.

if my wifi drops, the procedure above resets my wifi issues and brings it to normal speed again

I have a macbook pro, and I have tried just about everything that have mentioned in this threads, and am still having problem. Most of the "fixes" would work for about 10 or 20 min, and then my wifi would drop from 57 Mbps (speedtest.net) to 0.5 or 1 Mbps, and none of the "fixes" would survive a reboot or sleep.

    Things I have tried:

    installed 10.10.1

setup a new wifi from network preference

    started and stop wifi

removed various plists (this worked the best, but it doesn't last long)

    removed the whole SystemConfiguration directory

    disabled bluetooth

installed 10.10.2 (and this worked for a day, and now it's just like before)

    killed discoveryd

    praying

My family has 2 other Macbook Air, needless to day, they won't be upgraded, like, ever.

Did you try my "workaround" as described above? (ie creating a new account and switching between the two to reset wifi speed)

There are earlier posts (if not here then on closely related threads) about Chrome good, Safari bad

This helped today and it last a whole day!

Got an iMac late 2013, with wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse.

    - Connect a USB-Mouse

    - Disable Bluetooth

    -Disconnect Wifi, connect again.

    - Surfing a couple minutes, just to check if internet works

    - Reconnecting Bluetooth, but letting the USB Mouse in the iMac!

    - Since this, Yosemite at its best!!!

From today morning, no problems and issues. Still got the USB Mouse in my iMac, I know it doesn't make sense but it WORKS!!!

What is your broadband situation, i.e. dual band etc?
