Mar 5, 2015 11:42 AM in response to therealiktby nhcowboy,My latest "fun" new twist is having my email take forever to get sent, as long as three minutes for a one sentence no attachment email. I have a mini Mac and an new AC Apple airport extreme router, bluetooth Apple keyboard and Apple magic track pad and running on the latest Yosemite build, so I can rule out incompatible equipment issues. Also when I click on my wifi icon its status will say "Wi-fi on" then changes to "Looking for networks" and cycles between that continuously- all the while with full bars on the icon-very very strange. I can go online, usually very creeping along style speedish, and eventually my emails get sent but something is still very far from acceptable or working as intended. It's a shame, I hate to think I need to buy a PC just to go online effectively and thinking about getting another new Mac computer with only Yosemite is not a viable option either. I feel like I'm in between a rock and a hard place! Three cheers for those whose Yosemite works fine but my all Apple product experience since updating to Yosemite is a nightmare and I don't think it will ever be sorted out, ever. With Apple's attention now on the watch I feel left behind like being the kid picked last for dodgeball.

Mar 5, 2015 11:52 AM in response to nhcowboyby James Mooring,After trying just about every fix I could find, the only thing that worked for me was turning off wi-fi, going to my user Library/Preferences folder, and deleting 'com.apple.wifi.keychain-format.plist' and 'com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist.' After turning on wi-fi again the connectivity came back. Knock on wood it stays that way.
(I run a MacBook Pro Retina that had been upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks -- no clean install.)

Mar 5, 2015 12:56 PM in response to hexdiyby jndupuis1,Hex, I would like to take the time to thank you and everyone for all of the assistance in this thread that has helped me. It is my hope that I have helped as well. My Mac Mini is running fine -Mavericks, Yosemite and Windows 7 Pro.
It is with regret that I no longer have a lot more to further contribute, I also regret having replied to lkrupps earlier today and it removed by Apple Admin as it had nothing to contribute to this thread. Any further reply to this person could lead to the same result for anyone.
I will continue to monitor this thread and see the progress being made toward Yosemite being better and better. Thanks again to all in this thread and a thanks to the Apple Support Community Admin. All of you deserve a big Thanks! Best Regards! - John

Not to question the wealth of knowledge that is lkrupp but I would say if Apple has reached out to some people on this board than they know there is an issue.
As amply testified to in this topic there IS an issue with Yosemite WiFi, in some undefinable OSX- hardware setups, and because of that they ARE reaching out to many forum members on this board myself included.
But the issue has so many variables that it will be (hopefully nearly) impossible to find let alone, solve.
Remember Tom Stephens recent post here (the originator of this thread) that Apple has had him finally send in his WiFi router for testing. Meaning they are finally into hands-on 3rd party hardware testing of their own which they should already have done in the YO 1010 beta phase.
See, I'm not for or against Apple in this matter, only it seems they should have done some real-life tests before releasing this OS.

Mar 5, 2015 7:54 PM in response to hexdiyby zLETRO,woot. My MBP has been messing up the home router the past week. It was actually tolerably usable the period before - intermittent access, fast enough to not bang the wall in frustration but i know it should be faster. The past week it's actually killed off the entire wifi network so badly (or choked it to death. or soemthing) but other laptops can't get going. Wired access works still. oddly.
So do we have any form of solution or troubleshooting yet?
Yosemite *****.

Hate to see you go, John! Your contributions in this thread have certainly been inspiring. Especially your IT twist as to the WINS side of the server, which at 1st looked totally off-topic to me. And your confirmation about DNS resolution, which strengthened me in my belief about the core matter at hand here.
I still think very frequent failures of Handoff (which I continue to read about on just any Mac forum) are related to the issue at hand here: Handoff and Discoveryd relying heavily on both Bluetooth and WiFI at once not working on some hardware setups. iOs8 having the same trouble sometimes. I still think Mario Ciabarra had it right in his initial analyses:
https://medium.com/@mariociabarra/wifried-ios-8-wifi-performance-issues-3029a164 ce94
Not to speak of USB3 interference on the 2.4 GHZ band. And not mentioning the possibly bad choice of a Broadcom combined Bluetooth/ WiFi chip either, Apple writing software on the assumption of non- delivered promises by Broadcom.
Well, most issues being spoken of, I might leave this thread also. Will not post my Email address in the open, but you can reach me via private message at Ehmac.ca, same alias: hexdiy. Very nice forum it is, too! CU!

This may be proof A(pple)W(ireless)D(iscovery)L(ink) may be swamping an (older?) router of yours in discovery requests. How many iDevices are running in your household and what WiFi router is your home network running on please? Assuming your MBP is running any Yosemite version, of course. Please state your country and ISP as well.Thank you!
PS: this is one of the 1st reports other laptops' or iDevices' WiFi being killed by an Apple laptop. Do you have a full list, please?

Hi hexdiy,
Amazing, no other iDevices are present at all. A couple of Android phones and windows laptop. Bluetooth is already disabled. Airdrop is disabled.
I don't see what has country and ISP got to do with it.
I wonder if enabling TimeMachine has increased the issue.
I was using Wifried couple weeks back but stopped when the situation seemed manageable. Will try it again soon.

Mar 6, 2015 11:51 AM in response to zLETROby j-m-d,(to no one in particular)
I think what is galling to people is that there are things Apple could have done/do to mitigate these problems and stem some of the frustrations. Most of us are not surprised there are roll out issues with a brand new OS, but the problems were obvious fairly quickly, and Apple seems to be publicly (to innocent users who don't frequent these boards) stonewalling on it.
a) just fess up, say "some people are dead in the water after loading Yosemite, here's an easy way to go back to Mavericks until we figure this out"
b) instruct the "geniuses" at the Apple Store not to say "there are no WiFi problems", but instead "yes we know, can I install Mavericks for you again ?"
c) a public acknowledgment would preclude many new people from unnecessarily bringing these issues upon themselves, most users think the 3rd release of something is safe.
I do believe that Apple is staying close mouthed on this because they do not want to be publicly embarrassed as they were with Maps and iOS8, better to accept some people can't connect to WiFi, or get Mail, or use Time Machine than appear inept. I don't think that makes me a conspiracy theorist.
It's been 5 months, do we think they know what's wrong and haven't fixed it, still have no clue, or can't fix it without backtracking on a published Yosemite function ????

Mar 6, 2015 2:23 PM in response to j-m-dby fredericfromkeerbergen,How is this possible. More and more stability problems with OSX. It's far from the stability of some years ago. Recurrent issues with WiFi dropping continuously. What is Apple waiting to solve the issue one for all ?! To be able to use my mac further I had to put Bluetooth off and re-use an old wired mouse ! Apple time to react and get it solved !!!!

Mar 6, 2015 4:15 PM in response to nhcowboyby nhcowboy,More email trouble noted today on my Mini Mac. I Checked my gmail account added in the default Mac mail program and in the sent folder there were between 8 to 21 copies of any particular email, I only sent one! For every email sent there are literally dozens of that same email in the sent folder. My Comcast folder there is normal. Seeing as how it can take minutes with a very very slow progress bar sending my email before the outbox actually goes out I believe it to be related to these funky issues. Many times as well my email accounts are blacked out and not connecting and only a modem, router, and computer reboot bring them back online. Is anyone else experiencing bizzare email issues as well? (Sent from my ipad which doesn't run Yosemite and therefore works fine.)

In English: Frederic, could you look if possibly mDNSresponder is running in tandem with Discoveryd on your system? For I do believe mDNSresponder is an unwanted relic from a previous Mavericks install, migrated via Migration assistant. And it seems to interfere with Discoveryd, the standard since Yosemite.
Anyhow, definitively substituting Discoveryd under Yosemite by the Mavericks mDNSresponder seems to yield positive effects under Yosemite.
