Oct 22, 2014 2:34 PM in response to tomstephens89by mgran,Hello, I had the same problem since the upgrade to Yosemite, wifi didn't work. Today I found the solution!!! (at least for me).
Here is how I fixed it. My router was using a "WPA Personal" encryption. Today I took my MBP to another place and the wifi was running perfect and fast. The router there was using "WEP" encryption, so I changed from "WPA Personal" to "WEP" in mine and wifi is back to normal (I tried "WPA2 Personal" but didn't work either).
But for me this is a temporary solution as I would like to use a better encryption. I hope Apple publishes a hot fix for this problem soon, with Mavericks everything worked fine.
Hope this helps.

Oct 22, 2014 2:39 PM in response to tomstephens89by guguii,it seems anything you do to reset the network prefs, will work for a while, Every time I boot I need to reset the PRAM

Oct 22, 2014 2:43 PM in response to ecotecitby givacrap, ecotecit, this is day 3 of no problems after I made the changes described in my post. I really believe that if you go to your Home/User/Library/Preferences, you will find what's causing the problems there. I found 2 airport, 3 bluetooth, 2 system plists among others. I deleted every plist that had doubles or more and after a reboot they worked perfectly, wifi, bluetooth etc. Apple made this file invisible and if it still is on your system, do the ~/Library to find it. It's worth a look. After I trashed all those plists, and did a shutdown/restart, and then another shutdown with a PRAM reset. Later I repaired permissions. You do have to reset your prefs, network etc. but to me it was worth the hassle. Really, everything works as well as it did in Mavericks maybe a little better.

Oct 22, 2014 2:50 PM in response to tomstephens89by dannymd,I have 2 mac devices: 2012 Mac Mini and a 2013 Macbook Air.
They both worked beautifully and had NO ISSUES with Wi-fi under Mavericks.
A few days ago I upgraded to Yosemite on both of these devices, and now they BOTH have issues.
1) My Mac Mini keeps dropping the wi-fi connection every 1-3 minutes. I have bluetooth enabled, because I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Can't turn it off, which I've heard MIGHT help some people.
2) My Macbook Air has had PAINFULLY SLOW wifi connection since I upgraded. I'm now using my LTE-enabled iPad for network needs as a work-around, but this ISN'T A GOOD WORKAROUND.
***! How was this not picked up in beta.
APPLE -- PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP. THIS IS NOT OK.. And ACKNOWLEDGE the problem.
AND YES, I have tried rebooting, disconnecting and reconnecting from wifi, deleting system config folder, reinstalling OS, flushing PRAM on both devices. Didn't help.

Oct 22, 2014 3:13 PM in response to dannymdby PJWilkin,I have a MBPR 15 (late 2013) .. and I must say, Yosemite is a Wifi Disaster
1) Under Mavericks my Time Capsule (which is 802.11ac) was always over 1000mbps (usually 1053 but mainly 1300) as it's 3 feet away
Under Yosemite .. the TX rate gradually drops from 1300 down to 200mbs or lower
2) 2.4Ghz band SSID's disappear, just looking at available wifi list a lot randomly drop out ..even when one of them is the Time Capsules 2.4Ghz
This drop-outs can be seen easily using the command line
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resource s/airport -s
Or using the app Wifi Explorer which will show wifi SSIDs dropping out periodically
3) Wifi performance on any band is sporadic, and with the 2.4Ghz band prone to dropping
I don't know if some of this is related to the 'personal hotspot' facility that it sets up to iPhones (yes these are in the 2.4Ghz band) , poor drivers, or just a very poor wifi implementation
Apple definitely need to fix Wifi Performance and Stability

Oct 22, 2014 3:26 PM in response to tomstephens89by swedinburgh,All --
While it is not a fix, this article here will at least go so far as to notice when your wifi has dropped, and restart it for you without requiring any intervention on your part. It's a band aid solution for sure, but until Apple even ACKNOWLEDGE TO US that they're aware of the problem and smart people are working their ***** off to get an update to us, then it'll keep your blood pressure a few notches lower.
The script you need is here:
http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2014/10/22/os-x-yosemite-wi-fi-problems-can-you- help-us-solve-them/
If you're not overly technical, open a terminal window (command-space and type terminal)
in the terminal window type:
Last login: Wed Oct 22 14:46:12 on ttys001
iMac:~ stevenwebster$ cd
iMac:~ stevenwebster$ vi keepWifiAlive
You'll go into an editor window. In the editor press "i" for "insert" and then paste this code:
#! /usr/bin/env bash
while true; do
echo "$(date -u): \c"
dig @8.8.8.8 +tries=1 +time=3 google.com | \
grep 'Query time' | \
cut -d ' ' -f 4 -f 5
if [ ${PIPESTATUS[0]} -ne 0 ] ; then
ifconfig en0 down
ifconfig en0 up
echo "--> Bounced en0\n"
fi
sleep 5
done
Once you've pasted it, press escape, then w, then q, then exclamation mark and hit return (in vi, that's how you write the file to disk and quit)
Then back at your terminal window, type:
iMac:~ stevenwebster$ chmod 755 keepWifiAlive
Then run your new script:
iMac:~ stevenwebster$ sudo ./keepWifiAlive
I had to edit the code above so the 2 instances of "en0" were "en1" because my wifi is on network adapter en1. You can see that if you go to network utility (command-space and type network utility and hit enter....then look at the dropdown to see which adapter "Wi-fi" is on).
If you keep that script running, it will detect when your wifi/network connection has dropped, and will stop and restart your network adapter. It'll still likely drop things like skype calls, etc, but at least it gives you a semblance of connectivity.
Kudos to the guys at Sophos for putting something out there that removes frustration until a fix is found.
I'm incredibly dismayed that Apple are not even acknowledging the issue with a time to resolution.

Oct 22, 2014 4:27 PM in response to tomstephens89by tuckershOSU,I'm having the same issues today. I went a few hours mid day without issue, but this morning and this afternoon every 2-15 minutes I drop the connection.

Oct 22, 2014 4:42 PM in response to tuckershOSUby Moosetraveller,I've no solution found but if you are using a VPN provider you might work around the problem. I've found out that HTTPS and FTP request went through but HTTP pages were not accessible, so I decided to try a VPN connection and it works well.
However, this is can not be a solution! Apple must fix this issue ASAP!

Oct 22, 2014 4:44 PM in response to tomstephens89by onepluto,This is CRAZY, hello APPLE!!!! We live in a world that lives on wifi and I'm about to toss my brand new MacBook Pro due to this upgrade. So many promising features in this release but if the car won't start its useless! The worst part of this is YOU ARE NOT EVEN acknowledging the issue exist, very sad. I was excited about the new release and how my new iPhone was going to integrate to the system, HA can't sync if Yosemite keeps killing the wifi. If you don't plan on taking care of the issue just say so, say SOMETHING! PLEASE!!!!!!

Oct 22, 2014 4:49 PM in response to tomstephens89by Pili7777,+1 - Macbook Pro Retina 2012. Tried a variety of suggested fixes, nothing that works permanently. Have no choice to use an Ethernet cable like it's 1998.
APPLE WHAT ARE YOU DOING ? Over 22K views on this thread. I work for a software company and if that many customers were affected by a P1 bug, heads would roll. How comes this is not being picked up by more blogs ?

Oct 22, 2014 4:51 PM in response to tomstephens89by EricStephens,I tried altering the permissions in the keychain which didn't work. I went and deleted the wifi connection (2.4 and 5 Ghz) entries on my Mac for my Air Port. So far this seems to have helped.

Oct 22, 2014 4:59 PM in response to Moosetravellerby Moosetraveller,Another solution/hack beside using VPN which worked for me:

However not excessively tested yet. Apple, it's 2 am here in Switzerland, you are stealing peoples sleep and nerves. Thanks for that!

Oct 22, 2014 5:12 PM in response to tomstephens89by rooknee,+1, disabling bluetooth did not help. Having access to different WIFI AP I tried cisco (linksys), dlink, netgear with no luck. Quality control? What quality control? Apparently apple doesn't have enough money to afford Quality Control? ***
