Mar 6, 2015 7:21 PM in response to hexdiyby hexdiy,Speaking of buffer overflows: check this NTP (Network Time Protocol) out: http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/12/22/apple-releases-critical-security-updat e-for-os-x-ntp-services-vulnerability
Old, I know.
I strongly suggest the public Yosemite 10.10.3 beta seed for this, or the latest 10.10.2 Security Updates.

Very old news, right: http://www.iss.net/threats/264.html
Search term was:
OSX Yosemite + buffer overflow
Any ideas?
That article about the buffer overflow pertains to a situation that in 2007 was addressed with an Apple Security update (in 2007). How is that situation from 8 years ago relevant to Yosemite in 2015?

Mar 7, 2015 9:52 AM in response to steve626by shafez,Back to Mavericks after so many trials and wasted time. Very unfortunate to have to downgrade because of Apple not willing to fix this problem, I am really very angry and frustrated.

Mar 9, 2015 4:41 PM in response to therealiktby hexdiy,Relative silence from this forum is indicative that it is getting fixed. With most of my correpondents it is, anyhow, even under 10.10.2. But they might have done their network settings homework a little better, and their workaround efforts are probably a litlle more solid.
Geeks? Call them experienced users instead. Was it "it just works?"- surely not, Apple!
And mark this: there is no one-and-holy workaround, there are no auto network settings! No pre-packaged solutions. Read this, Apple?

Yeah, Steve626. I will shut my trap here. That is a Google issue: many of the articles are not dated. But hey, because of your post I am minding the serials of security publications now as well... Thanx!

No problem, but bringing in other disparate topics may obscure the true issues here. Google usually does show the dates, and also shows in bold which search terms are matches in what it finds. For instance, the article from 2007 probably matched "OS X" and "buffer overflow" but I'll bet it didn't match "Yosemite" (since it didn't exist back then). So you can screen your google results by inspecting what it shows you.

Mar 10, 2015 7:32 AM in response to therealiktby nhcowboy,My internet on my Mini Mac with a brand new Apple Airport Extreme ac router and broadband Comcast internet is still spotty at best. It goes but usually at a snail's pace and when I click on the wifi icon it's constantly switching from "Looking for networks" to "WiFi on" in an infinite five second cycle, though the icon itself always shows full bars. Email gets sent very very VERY slowly as well which is weird and something not seen before. Safari is typically the worst offender for slow web page loading and Google Chrome amongst the better of the three (Firefox being the other) that I juggle just to get on line without having to make a pot of coffee while I wait for pages to load. After seeing the great new laptop yesterday I'd run right out and buy one for real, but to have an awesome brick that has Yosemite and in all likelihood the same issue I will not dare. Yosemite I cannot trust; however good any Mac computer may be with Yosemite not running the internet show it matters not. It's a shame that something as simple as going online is now highly questionable and a continual source of aggravation, that takes the functionality of the computer and throws it in the rubbish bin! I don't need a fancy expensive watch Apple-that's an option, but I DO need my computer to be able to go online-plain and simple-that's a necessity and a need not a want.. Apple should be making things people need and not 100% want and that starts with "It just works". Until they come up with a new system other than Yosemite, and I wait months on end and scour forums to see if people have wifi issues I'm stuck with a less than lack luster system I used to be thrilled with, and now simply abhor. And, I think the lack of discussion is more people giving up rather than more people having their issues disappear-my two cents worth anyway.

Mar 10, 2015 10:49 AM in response to therealiktby PFJ30,Still largely hit (mostly 2.4) and mostly miss (5ghz) here. Tonight as usual 2.4 was rock solid, tried to switch to 5, no deal, then 2.4 lost as well Diagnostics says you are connected but this screen shot shows the reality. This inability to get back to 2.4 after attempting 5ghz connection new under this seed (penultimate 10.2)

Can I assume a successful installation of the now public 10.10.3 beta here helped you PFJ30? Please tell us mortals... All ears.
