Mar 26, 2015 3:43 PM in response to shafezby PFJ30,I think Shafez that this is because it is not a new suggestion which like all? previous suggestions seem to work only for some people and only for a ltd period of time. I stand corrected if anybody who has posted here in the past has had a permanent solution other than via a later release of the IOS which Apple's T&C disallow us to speak of

this topic is so horribly long, why not bump your post by quoting? Nothing wrong with that... Thank you!

Mar 26, 2015 3:47 PM in response to hexdiyby PFJ30,Lest anybody think Hexdiy is being unreasonable this is the standard in forums where fellow users try to assist one another, and which he has frequently pointed out before.
The problem with a thread like this with over 1 million posts is the lack of any meta-data/analysis: it just isn't possible to maintain a summary of whats gone before so newcomers can quickly get up to speed.

Mar 26, 2015 4:55 PM in response to PFJ30by hexdiy,Thank you Paul. But remember the thread has over 1 million views, not posts. Hefty thread on all counts, though. Pity it doesn't number posts, would be easier for referral.
Latest suspicion has been launched by forum member "simen", who has definitely educated us to the existence of the WiFi preambles: Legacy, Mixed Mode, Greenfield, and GF-BRCM (Greenfield-Broadcom) (last 2 are "High throughput", +54 kbps WiFi modes, probably supporting Jumbo Frames, not allowing anything except n-only WiFi networks, possible cause of some of the Yosemite WiFi troubles in combination with some WiFi routers ).
These questions then remain:
- does your router support Greenfield or Greenfield-Broadcom protocol?
- does your router support Jumbo Frames? ( this probably has to do with the already mentioned Maximum Transmission Unit being greater than 1450).- Setting MTU lower than 1450 has been known to work around the Yosemite WiFi bug in some cases.
-Is Greenfield colliding with GF-BRCM on some routers?
OK people, feel free to comment. Seems we will have to DIY here...

Mar 26, 2015 5:31 PM in response to hexdiyby jndupuis1,Hi hexdiy,
Here is something that I may contribute Two links. I have an EA3500 Router. It needs only the minimal set up requirements SSID, PASSPHRASE, etc. When testing Yosemite 10.10.2 on my Mac Mini late 2012, I had no issue. Thought this might help. Don't need to be a Tech to ride that Router config train. Every router comes with a web link or PDF.

Mar 30, 2015 12:57 PM in response to tomstephens89by BobSaggy,Did any of the suggestions on this thread solve your problem? I've even tried everything on this thread: "http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/", but my wifi still crawls. Thanks.

Mar 30, 2015 7:52 PM in response to tomstephens89by Jean Jones2,I tried to get through this whole thread but my head is spinning. WAY too techie for an old lady like me. I have found a solution that seems to be different from other people: my wifi seems to only work well when my Airport Extreme is set to 5Ghz only. Strange, since others seem to be unable to use 5Ghz. The trouble is that my AirPrint printer won't work with 5Ghz, so I have to use an Airport Express that is not set to 5 Ghz for printing from my iPhone and iPads. Messy, so I hope to someday go back to the easy days of everything "just works."

Mar 31, 2015 7:38 AM in response to tomstephens89by UpTheVale1876,I have a similar issue, using a Macbook Air (mid 2013), wi-fi worked well until update to Yosemite 10.10.2 - since then wi-fi drops every few minutes. If I turn off wi-fi and then back on again (just on menu bar at top) it picks it up again, but then drops out a few minutes later.
I'm in the UK and using a BT Homehub router. All other devices in the house have no issues what so ever.
Any solutions out there?

Mar 31, 2015 7:51 AM in response to sosoby samtowers4647,I am having the exact same problem with my Mac Book pro from 2012. Even closing the screen and sleeping it results in losing my wi-fi connection. I have to select my network everry time! I sure wish Apple would address this.

Mar 31, 2015 8:03 AM in response to BobSaggyby PFJ30,There is a genuine difficulty in answering your question definitively: in the early days - say October to December or on 10.1 and early 10.2 many people posted here "Thank you thank you" only to return a few minutes/hours/days later to report the solution was short lived. I am Not a techie but understand those who are who explained that nearly all the "solutions" were only patches or workarounds which couldn't be relied upon permanently hence the constant call for Apple to respond. In my case and no doubt many others with access to non-public vershuns of Yos one doesn't know what had had the effect but for sure my WI-FI connectivity is much much better than it was BUT it was never dire either. When 10.three is offered I will be recommending friends to download BUT there is an important consideration: the older your Mac the less likely you will be delighted with performance from an upgrade but that of course is nothing new. Another quandry.
ALL that said have you tried deleting all your WI-FI networks in System Preferences, giving each band a uniques name if you have dual band, APPLY the changes, switching Mac & router off / on, turn router back on then Mac, then adding new networks?
best wishes and condolences if no improvement
paul
