Oct 23, 2014 12:47 AM in response to svadj.ruby ecotecit,I ended up buying a tunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter so that I could use Time Machine backups.
I wasn't waiting around for my laptop to backup properly before taking it out of the building.
Not that there is much data on there, but I like to know that things are working as they should.
Can someone knock on the door at apple and wake them up?

Oct 23, 2014 12:48 AM in response to tomstephens89by M4tth3w,This is a bluetooth-related issue. I am sat in a cafe using a public wifi hotspot I normally use without any issues. When I toggle bluetooth on and off on mid-14 MBP wifi works and then doesn't work. It connects but there is no or extremely slow data with bluetooth on. Similarly I get dropouts of my work wifi network with bluetooth on.

Oct 23, 2014 1:13 AM in response to tomstephens89by BrentHunsberger,I have a MacBook Air, mid-2012, and had a variation of this problem: I could get non-SSL websites to load but not SSL sites (those with https:// at the beginning of the address).
Three techs at the Genius Bar worked on the issue for nearly an hour, trying a variety of fixes, including cache clears and removing most third-party software. I'd already verified and repaired disk permissions on the hard drive.
This is what appeared to be the problem -- an error in my Keychain configuration. We went to Finder/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access/Keychain First Aid (who knew!). I entered my password, verified and then repaired. I had no idea Keychain had its own First Aid.
Others might try it -- wouldn't hurt....

Oct 23, 2014 1:38 AM in response to tomstephens89by ellocoescoces,Hi there, I'm not sure what happened to my Macbook Pro early 2014. Initially WiFi was fine and this included downloading the various updates for iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto etc. and I think a few system updates.
After this the WiFi connection appears very briefly (less than seconds) and then is lost.
I do remember looking at the family sharng option and I did see a pop-up to request to enable uPnP on my router (which I didn't get around to doing) but after enabling this does roughly coincide with when the issue appeared. I added one extra user but I'm not sure what this changes in the system.
In the meantime I reverted back to Mavericks as I agree with many of the other folks her that having WiFi issues (especially on a machine that has no ethernet port - which I'm not complaining about as I love the machine and form factor) but this is a killer issue.
On my core 2duo iMac so far I did not see any issue and this includes after the upgrades so I'll keep an eye on this but until I see some resolution from Apple, the Macbook Pro stays on Mavericks!
I may give it another go and see if the family sharing does trigger this issue.
Not sure if this helps anyone!

Oct 23, 2014 1:37 AM in response to tomstephens89by Cernus,Hi there,
I read most of the comments here and I wanted to share one thing I noticed on my MBP 2013.
It was working fine with Mavericks and I upgraded to Yosemite like you did. The funny thing is that even with the VPN connection enabled I cannot surf at all. It is take forever to load when it is loading. So my guess was it was not directly related to my wifi connection.
After killing 2 processes networkd and networkd_privileges everything came back to normal. The system restarted the 2 processes and I was able to surf and enjoy the internet again.
Not sure it is will be your case as well, but it worked every time I tried it on my MBP.
My tiny 2 cents.

Oct 23, 2014 2:59 AM in response to Cernusby Mr Swede,Edit: And the network dropped again... Below solution does not work. It lasted longer than before and the network was a lot faster. But this was not the solution. This is ridiculous.
I just spoke with and tested a solution from Apple Support.
HD -> Library -> Preferences
Rename "SystemConfiguration" to "SystemConfiguration.OLD"
Restart
Re-add wifi
I have only run my network for aprox 30 minutes, so the above solution is not verified. But I am hopeful and posting this as my network is a lot faster (2-3 times faster) since I did the above, which not previous solutions has resulted in. So if this is indeed the solution I wanted to get it out there - perhaps prematurely - for more peeps to try and verify and have a less annoying days.
A second caveat is that I have tried several other solutions before the above. So it could be a combination of solutions.
I will try and remember to post a follow up posts if my network remains stable.

Oct 23, 2014 4:05 AM in response to tomstephens89by tomstephens89,I am not sure if this is related but I am also unable to get Instant Hotspot working via my iPhone 5s which is on IOS 8.1 as well.
My Macbook Pro cannot see it as a personal hotspot, even though both are signed into the same iCloud account, I have tried re-signing in, rebooting, resetting... Nothing works. Perhaps this is due to this wifi issue as well since the hotspot is reliant on wifi after all....

Oct 23, 2014 5:01 AM in response to oneplutoby drekce,So I just turned off the new "Handoff" feature in Yosemite, rebooted and the WiFi started working again. It's been going strong for 15 minutes or so. No idea if the reboot cleared something up temporarily, or whether handoff is a culprit.
Uncheck the box at:
Settings->General->Allow Handoff between this Mac and you iCloud devices

Oct 23, 2014 5:02 AM in response to tomstephens89by cyrus_b_uk,I'm not quite sure if Yosemite is the orignal source of my Wi-Fi Problem, my problems started a week and a half ago, before I upgraded. I wanted to start using the XCode server service available on OSX Server. Since turning it on, I've had nothing but trouble.
I have a mac mini I manage remotely through screen sharing. Since turning on the XCode service (now since turned off again) I had two seperate issues. Both started before installing Yosemite.
1. I could not log in remotely after a startup, I would have to go to the machine, plug in a keyboard, and login there, after that, I could connect. This may have been an issue with bots, after cleaning xcode off my server and reinstalling, and upgrading to Yosemite, I can log in as normal again.
2. My wifi performance slowed to a crawl. I didn't actually notice at first, I thought the problem was with screen sharing or something overloading the server. It became really unresponsive, slow screen updates, then I finally noticed that uploading a file to my server from another computer on my network was taking a super long time. It wasn't screen sharing at all, it was the network speed, I just hadn't noticed. I was checking CPU load, memory usage, but never thought to check the network speed, I'd never had problems with it before.
After checking slow network speed and Yosemite on google, here I am. Although my Mac Mini wireless is screwed, my MBP is running just fine as far as I can tell.
I was running a vpn service on the server, turning that off did nothing.
I tried the forgetting the preferred networks, that hasn't done anything. I'm not sure I'm liking the other solutions, some don't seem terribly safe.

Oct 23, 2014 5:06 AM in response to tomstephens89by ladyspudz,Sent a feedback 'report' in.
I tried a few of the more simple fix ideas with no luck. Yesterday I decided to try the "leave Sys. Pref. window open" technique and I have to say I haven't had a problem since! I wasn't going to try it as it just seemed to simple, but it has worked for me for over 24 hours now - hopefully will keep me up and running until a proper update comes along to address the issue.

Oct 23, 2014 5:21 AM in response to tomstephens89by Wintaru,I submitted a feedback report as well. I've tried everything listed in this thread with no luck so far. My anecdotal evidence:
1. This issue only exists for me at work, where I have no control over the Wifi settings. At home, on my 5ghz Linksys router, things run smoothly with no issue.
2. Bluetooth settings don't change anything. Neither does enabling/disabling Handoff.
3. Deleting and re-adding the networks did not work.
I Option+Clicked the Wifi settings, ran wireless diagnostics, and elected to let it continue to run while I was working. I encountered a strange occurance in that the monitoring software did not detect any issues with my wifi, even when I was obviously having issues:
The monitoring diagnostic tool did spit out an error report which seems very detailed, I'm pouring over the logs right now to see what the system was doing but there is a lot of data to sift through. Anyone know who I can send this report to at Apple?
Edit to add: It seems there are these driver events associated with the connection dying. Not sure what these are exactly but they seem to last as long as the outage does:
Thu Oct 23 06:27:11.095 Driver Event: <airportd[29]> _bsd_80211_event_callback: LINK_QUALITY (en0)
Thu Oct 23 06:27:11.096 Info: <Wi-Fi Menu Extra[304]> link quality changed

Oct 23, 2014 5:40 AM in response to tomstephens89by TingMatin,I also summited a feedbag report and strongly recommend that all of you do so. They can't choose to ignore this issue for ever!!!
I am a long-term apple customer. Initially I came from windows, like so many others attracted by the flawless functionality of the apple environment.
While the apple environment still impresses with its straightforward usability, recent software updates tended to rampage simplicity, the core functionality and advantage of the apple experience. Yes, I am disappointed.
Apple is in full control of all hard- and software components, making it easy for developers to minimize flaws. Or so it seemed.
Yet its not so much the mounting bugs as the intriguing failure to address these issues. Yes, we are expecting a lot from apple, a lot more than from any other brand and yes, our expectations are justified. They are because apple used to spare us from having to spend hours, if not days lurking through various support forums looking for fixes to problems that keep us from enjoying the easy, uninterrupted workflow we are so accustomed to and so much rely on.
By all means, apple is not bad, not bad at all but much worse than they used to be.

Oct 23, 2014 5:46 AM in response to TingMatinby marcelokalib,Got the same problem in here (mac mini). In Mavericks, everything was working just fine. After updating, got the issue.. tried to erase the disk and install it from zero, and.. the same problem. Can´t be online for more than 30 seconds.
Annoying. :/
Already reported.
Just waiting for a fix.
