Jun 11, 2015 2:24 AM in response to osiharaby kevin_,It seems that the issue that you have a totally different one than the issue that I had experienced.
I had absolutely no issues when using a router that only had 802.11n on 2.4Ghz. The issue only arose when I decided to upgrade my router to one that was dual band with 802.11ac. Plus my issue was a consistant lack of speed, I never had any drops.
Good luck on this, It will be to see what the resolution is.

Jun 11, 2015 2:35 AM in response to kevin_by osihara,Yea I had tried switching the router between it's various modes and channels with no change in effect that I could identify.
I just bit the bullet and bought a second hand Wi-FI card replacement of the same model from eBay. Wasn't expensive so worth a try. Just another option. And on that note the dongle is doing well. Noticed my NAS responded a lot quicker than usual. To early to know if it was coincidence.
Thanks for the discussion.

When you get your card and install it. Yosemite and the iMac may or may not recognize or resolve the new firmware of the new card. Use the NPRAM reset procedure for your iMac year model. Then an SMC reset procedure for your iMac year model.
Then you may have to shutdown then power up holding Command and R keys. In Disk Utility you would Erase Macintosh HD, when erase is finished, Install a New Copy of OS X and follow on screen prompts. Know you've done it, just make sure you have backed up all personal data. Just thought I would save you a bit of frustration if OS X and your iMac fails to report the card change properly. Hope the Dongle is getting you somewhere in your troubleshooting. This is a work night as well. So I may or may not respond in a timely fashion if you direct any reply to me. Take care. Cheers!!

Jun 11, 2015 10:29 PM in response to jndupuis1by osihara,Thanks. Planning to do that given the persistence of issue. I've tried those SMC NPRAM etc. stuff on the iMac already regards to the issue. That is actually how I got a completely dead iMac to work recently.
As for the dongle it's working great! no issues yet. Needs more time to be sure.

Jun 12, 2015 9:21 PM in response to osiharaby osihara,Have been running data through the dongle almost constantly. Not an issue with it. I did see momentary signal loss but it recovered instantly and there was no noticeable effect on what I was doing.

Able to enjoy the iMac, FINALLY! Good job!

Jun 13, 2015 6:58 AM in response to osiharaby jndupuis1,Now, if your Broadcom replacement board works. You will be able to snap the old one into a thousand pieces and ship it back to Apple in a cardboard box with a note:
APPLE, YOU SHOULD HAVE SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH ATHEROS INSTEAD OF BROADCOM.
Cheers!! John

Jun 13, 2015 7:16 AM in response to tomstephens89by jndupuis1,How about that?! Not even a year trudging through Yosemite Sam, and now this. Apple is already wanting us to introduce ourselves OS X El Capitan. I dub thee, "The Captain Crunch". This will be Apple's final solution to wring out the weaklings. Nice. I'm not caving or fallin' for it this time. No upgrade necessary. Let's enjoy what we have for a change. Like more than a year. Cheers!!!

You make yourself look more foolish with every post. This is a privately owned and operated forum. You do not have the right to say anything you want. You do not have the right to accuse Apple of intentionally crippling your machine. There are plenty of anti-Apple websites where you can vent your rage and spew your venom. Go there. In addition it’s very hard to understand why you still use Apple products. There are a myriad of inexpensive non-Apple computers available. Have you ever heard of “Stockholm Syndrome?”

Jun 13, 2015 4:12 PM in response to lkruppby olind,My wifi also is really unstable. The last days it has been mostly disabled (Wi-Fi: No hardware installed) and I have no idea how to solve it. Hope the 10.10.4 update does. Otherwise I think I'l try to do a fresh 10.9 install.

Jun 15, 2015 7:04 AM in response to jndupuis1by olind,I think my problems are solved... They started occurring on the same time as I upgraded to 10.10 but I think mine were hardware related.
I opened up the cover on my mbp and looked at the Airport antenna and saw 2 screws that were a bit loose. I screwed them back, rebooted and it worked...

Good job olind. Sometimes it's the simple things that give us troubles and are easily over looked. Cheers!!
