Oct 24, 2014 6:04 PM in response to nicknishby KristinePierce,I installed OS X Yosemite a week ago, it was smooth sailing until today when I woke up to my Macbook Air 11" 2013 model gasping for internet connection.
Frustrated and about to downgrade back to Maverick (already backed up my files, etc), I took one more glance at the forums and found @nicknish's post and followed it to a T - and it worked! Hopefully it lasts until Apple can give all of us a fix for this issue the soonest!
PS. Thanks @nicknish! Much appreciated, Aloha!

Oct 24, 2014 6:45 PM in response to tomstephens89by brookyang,Do you guys have a AppleTV connected to the same AP?
I found my AppleTV keeps trying to steal my IP address and after that try,
Wifi will drop for ~10 seconds.
Watch /var/log/system.log , if you see Oct 25 02:38:39 MacBook-Pro.local configd[27]: DHCP en1: defending IP 192.168.2.111 against 9c:20:7b:c....
That's it! Turn off your AppleTV and see if the message show again.
My fix:
1.Upgrade AppleTV
2.set AppleTv to a static IP.

Oct 24, 2014 8:40 PM in response to tomstephens89by JAS_66,Oh my gosh, I just tore into my ISP and changed to another one (for which I have to pay more) because I assumed my wifi probs after Yosemite on the four, relatively new Macs in my house were due to poor service. The ISP came out and could not find any probs with the line or the router, so I put it down to their incompetence. I even bought a brand new airport extreme ($200!) in case it was something weird with the other one. Now I hear this! I can't even believe it.

Oct 24, 2014 9:45 PM in response to JAS_66by Sintjago,Ended up going to my work's Windows PC for now until they fix this. Maybe Apple will blame my router or ISP but it has no problems with any other OS or device. I have at least 20 devices with wifi in this house and none of them drop connection. I also use Comcast so I doubt the ISP is the problem. I also had no problems with Mavericks. Seems like they didn't troubleshoot Yosemite enough since the problem started minutes after the upgrade and it hasn't stopped. I cant even update programs from the App Store without it dropping the signal anymore. Its super frustrating. I had to work on my dissertation tonight which is stored in a cloud drive so I always have the latest copy available, but ended up having to download the file. However, since I was also having trouble checking sources on the internet, I ended up booting up the work computer which has Windows 8 to keep working after waiting a couple of hours trying different fixes to no available. Since then, no problems. Apple hopefully will fix this soon.

Oct 24, 2014 11:47 PM in response to Sintjagoby essencevictoria,Weird. I have no problem with THREE Macs on Yosemite, A 2013 iMac Core i7, a 2013 mBP Core17 and an old 2009 Core Duo MBP. They all access my home WiFi via an Airport Extreme and the laptops have no problems on hotel and or marina WiFi Systems. All three computers were put on the beta Yosemite several months ago. Maybe some users should run Cocktail/Command+R/ YASU etc to clean up their computers.

Oct 25, 2014 12:37 AM in response to essencevictoriaby macelangelo,Same fight every night when I get home. Five nights in a row.
The only trick I've found to keeping things sort of working is to stay off my 5ghz network and drop to the 2.4 ghz one.
No matter what i do, the 5ghz drops connection like crazy. This is both at work and at home. I have to plug in at work to have internet access now.
I've tried everything that's been listed here - Nothing keeps the connection working.
The best luck I've had is to fiddle with alternating toggling wifi and bluetooth on and off a few times before leaving the wifi connected to the 2.4 ghz network and bluetooth off.
I've also found that - once the 2.4 ghz connetion seems to stick - to go stream something (I've been using youtube videos) for about 10-20 minutes.
That seems to keep things alive longer - But eventually it'll drop when you least expect it.
And, of course, once the laptop goes to sleep, all bets are off. If I step away from the laptop long enough for it to go to sleep, then I'm back at square one.
I have not tried the "keep alive" hack that was posted on here, and I suspect that may work. It's not a long-term solution though.
At this point, I'll probably back up all of my data going back to when I upgraded to Yosemite and roll back to Mavericks. Until this is fixed, Yosemite isn't worth the hassle.

Oct 25, 2014 12:45 AM in response to essencevictoriaby Sintjago,I don’t know Victoria. I tried what you mentioned, plus resetting my wifi, resetting the SMC, and it didn’t help. Maybe some people are unlucky. It’s obviously a minority of computers that are having a problem. I am not surprised that the 3 you have worked, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem somewhere. Also, it should just work if there were zero problems with the install. I shouldn’t have to tweak things to make it work. The install happened smoothly without any errors or unexpected events. This computer only has around 15 programs installed plus the Adobe Creative Suite. I bought it early this year but this are my specs: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) Processor 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB Storage 1 TB Flash Storage - 922.12 GB Free. I had zero problems with Maverick and my wifi connection, ever. Thats why while I can't confirm anything, it seems pretty likely that is related to the update since it happened right after and nothing else changed. Beside this issue, this computer has been amazing. While it could be something else, this problem started right after I upgraded and I haven’t been able to fix it. It disconnects from the wifi about every minute. Then you have to manually reconnect because the signal is there. It just loses it. My iPads and the iPod Touch have zero problems. The other 3 laptops and 2 desktops at home have no problems. My family smartphones, and non-Apple tablets also have no problems, as well as gaming systems and other devices with my wifi. I had zero problems until a few minutes after installing Yosemite. Because I really like using this computer over the other ones, I might just revert to Mavericks for the time being because having to reconnect every minute, especially when you are working on cloud documents, is pretty annoying. It messes up their sync.

Oct 25, 2014 1:27 AM in response to tomstephens89by GHMCraenen,Hi,
I'm having the same type of problems. After upgrading MacBooks and Mac mini to Yosemite they are all suffering from bad wifi connectivity when using the 5 Ghz connections form my wireless access point (Asus RT-AC87U). Lots of drop-outs and no internet connectivity at all. It is not confined to one MacBook, but the complete gamma of MacBooks (3) and MacMini Server.
The 2.4 Ghz connections are working ok.

Oct 25, 2014 2:56 AM in response to tomstephens89by thebpc,I tried every method to get my internet working in Yosemite and nothing worked. I installed my time machine backup of Mavericks, and Mavericks works perfectly. How pathetic that Yosemite absolutely would not connect to internet. My business suffered for a week fooling around.

Oct 25, 2014 4:28 AM in response to cagperezby Fred-H,Loading a web page was also extremely slow for me. Speedtest on my iphone and Ipad was showing 20 Mbps whereas it was only showing 4 Mbps on my Mc Book Pro (Retina display - Yosemite).
I noticed that turning Bluetooth off was solving the issue but this was not an acceptable solution for me because I need Bluetooth to connect external devices.
I tried several solutions mentioned in this thread but the only one that solved the issue is a PRAM Reset.
The following link explains how to reset PRAM. OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRA
I hope this will also work for you
Good luck!!!!

Oct 25, 2014 4:52 AM in response to tomstephens89by Laubers Andy,Hallo,
had the same problems, tried to solve them with the mentioned methods, nothing worked, internet connection stayed slow and LAN collapsed irregularily every 3-6 min. I could solve my problems in the following way (don´t ask me my about the background or reasons, but it worked definitively):
I simply disconnected my router (speedport) from the power line for 5 min. 5 min are very important because this resets not only the router itself but as well the internet line from my provider.
After 5 min I reconnected the router and since then everything works perfectly well. Somebody told me that this strange behavior had something to do with the name server of my system that hat been corrupted by yosemite update.
Try it, you´ll have to invest 5 min and nothing can happen.

Oct 25, 2014 5:25 AM in response to Dawnnieby drfs,We are seeing this on some Macbook pros after the upgrade to 10.9.5 and applying the bash update. We did scan for viruses and Malware, delete old wi fi locations . I have a macbook air that I upgraded to Yosemite and it has no issues. It is a vary vanilla image without the combo update.
