Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

I've tried about everything I could find - deleting saved networks, clearing my keychains, restarting my computer holding different key combinations to clear PRAM and different things like that... to no avail.

    I found a fix here:

    https://sites.google.com/site/osxyosemitewififix/

I couldn't stay connected for more than 5 minutes.  Now I've passed an hour without interruption.

    Hello,

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) and found a solution in order to be able to stay connected to Internet using my WIFI. In Finder I selected AIR DROP (left side to Finder). So, AIR DROP stay open and  if I need to use Finder I open a New Finder Windows but do not close the Finder where AIR DROP is open.

This solution do not fix the problem but waiting an upgrade from Apple I am able to use my Wifi connection.

Maybe can help and work also for you....

    Regards

    Jack

I sincerely hope that some urgent attention is being given to this matter as I've tried quite a few of the fixes mentioned in this thread and none have actually cured the problem permanently.

So I now have an MBP with a design fault which works fine (not on Yosemite) but needs a new lid assembly due to a design fault, plus a 2013 iMac that was working fine before the Yosemite upgrade.

    Hi,

on my Macbook pro 2009 I also tried every solution which are stated in this thread.

Reseting wifi settings, kext utility, sort order etc. etc.. Nothing worked.(for me)

But this on from JackMBP is the first one where I can say my wifi is running stable. For hours now.

I tried this tomorrow just to test something else and I also noticed that my wifi came back to life.

    What often helps:

    In Preferences->Network->Advanced->Hardware Tab:

    set to Manual-Custom-1453

@LexSchellings - thank you - that has helped enormously, still buggy but now appears to be useable

    A. This is an old trick and often forgotten.

    B. You can also do following (a bit more complicated) in Yosemite:

    1. turn WiFi off, empty the TrashBin.

    2. in Finder go to Startupdisk->Library->SystemConfiguration   folder, in this folder find the following files:

    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    preferences.plist

delete those, but do not empty the Trashbin

    3. Restart the mac, Turn on WiFi again. This generates the deleted files again.

If something goes wrong you can still put the originals back from the Trash bin.

    C. Then there is another old trick:

    In SystemPreferences->Network->Advanced->DNS tab:

    with the plus sign add

    8.8.8.8

    and maybe also

    208.67.222.222

    (this focusses the search)

    I hope this helps also.

Tim Cook needs to STEP DOWN.......  Apple needs real leadership.  ...... nothing but disasters since he took over.

Been an Apple customer since the first Mac came out......  ready to chuck all-things-apple and install linux on all my macs......  or maybe just go back to OS X 10.6 and install older versions of my favorite apps.

sad state of affairs - this needs to go viral.

These two https://www.apple.com/uk/pr/bios/craig-federighi.html and https://www.apple.com/uk/pr/bios/dan-riccio.html are more deserving of the proverbial door.

Innovation by Wall Street calendar and stock prices is a disaster.

General advice everytime an upgrade OSX is announced:

wait for the first update after the first availability, at least...

Your contribution is not very helpful at all.

Do parental controls have anything to do with this?  My account with parental controls gives me problems, the one without seems fine.

I can confirm that a clean install of Yosemite seems to fix the problem as well.

Seems that the problem is related to updating from Mavericks to Yosemite.

Not an ideal solution, but I was tired of fighting with the network daily, so I went for a clean install.

Please stop generalizing your solutions... A clean install (and all other "solutions") did not work for most users...
