Oct 27, 2014 8:48 AM in response to tomstephens89by Alex_in_Berlin,Now this is a big disappointment. Never had so much problems with an update. Internet is a thing of the past for me now with 10.10
Only Mavericks still delivers. I can't remember anymore why I preferred mac to pc. Tried everything I've seen here in the forum, nothing works.

Oct 27, 2014 9:08 AM in response to tomstephens89by awildeep,The company I work for is experiencing this issue with at least one of our Mac Book Pros.
The macbook was originally upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. However it was wiped clean and a fresh copy of Yosemite from a USB bootable installer was used to install the system. From here everything appeared fine, and ran well (in fact faster than we previously saw) for about 30 minutes to see if we had any issues.
Once the machine was removed from the office, the user took it home to a different network did the following:
- Configured a single email account using exchange
- Downloaded and installed Google Chrome
After about 15 minutes of use the macbook's internet appeared to have issues. None of the recommended paths to resolve (mentioned in this thread or various others off-site) this issue have worked. As of right now all of our users have been advised to NOT UPGRADE to Yosemite. All current installations of Yosemite are currently being reverted to Mavericks.
A couple of side notes (Mainly details I have not seen highlighted in this thread):
- WiFi and Ethernet exhibit the same behavior. (Even with Wifi disabled).
- Command line shows that IP is working when resolving to an IP address. (EG: "ping 8.8.8.8" works as expected)
- Command line DNS does NOT resolve.
- Connectivity and functionality of DNS servers was confirmed.
- The DNS servers in question were working properly for different Macs running both Yosemite and Mavericks.
The laptop in question is currently running Mavericks again so I will not be able to gather more data.

Oct 27, 2014 10:19 AM in response to Alex_in_Berlinby richardwg,Just got email from Apple Support:
Hello Richard
First lets delete the preferred network that you are on that is giving you the issues. Make sure you press okay and then apply.
Do not add the network back just yet..
Once you have done that we can do the next steps.
FIRST:
SMC reset instructions:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Plug in the MagSafe (power adapter) to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Alt keys and the power button at the same time.
4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time. (The device should not power on at this point.)
5. Do not turn on the mac Just yet!
- How do I know this was done correctly?
- Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

SECOND:
PRAM/NVRAM reset instructions:
1. Locate the following keys on the keyboard:
Command (⌘), Alt, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 3.
2. Turn on the computer.
3. Press and hold the Command-Alt-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
4. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
5. Release the keys.
- How do I know this was done correctly?
- You will hear two or more startup chimes during boot.

Now you are able to add your network back as well.
I have made these changes and am hoping for the best...

Oct 27, 2014 11:00 AM in response to tomstephens89by Webheadfred,I've had this issue and think I've at least got a stable connection doing this...
I'm using a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk router with the latest firmware. I'm connected to the 5ghz side and the 2.4ghz is used for the printer connection and guests. I did a clean install of Yosemite with a complete re-format of the SSD drive. I had these issues since the upgrade on my early 2013 rMBP 16gb 768gb SSD and i7 quad core processor. My wife-unit's MBAir is still on Mavericks and working fine.
I read somewhere that maybe the IPv6 is the issue. I have disabled the IPv6 in the router and set the rMBP to Link-local only. So far (knock wood) I've been up with no issues for 24 hours.
This isn't the way it should be but seems to be chugging along for now.
Regards,
Fred

Oct 27, 2014 1:27 PM in response to Alex_in_Berlinby jeromebob,I was 'finally' able to get my iMac to work using the "fixes" here: http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/
worth a try......... the iMac finally stopped dropping offline over and over

Oct 27, 2014 2:41 PM in response to jeromebobby PJWilkin,I had already tried these fixes before you posted this
What I have found is that it seems to be Airdrop and related services that cause Wifi Slowdown
If I do not try to airdrop, my connection/TX Rate stays around 1300mbps ... if I click on airdrop in Finder .. the rate drops to 260mbps
This is repeatable every time
I'm wondering if Airdrop and Wifi-Direct are the cause of most of the issues

Oct 27, 2014 2:48 PM in response to tomstephens89by OceanDrifter,I have not had a WiFi drop for 9 hours now.
Although I am still wary that I downloaded and installed a Kext file from an anonymous site
None of the other fixes worked for me
-
Oct 27, 2014 2:57 PM in response to OceanDrifterby PJWilkin,I decided against the Kext file owing to the URL
I think I'll wait another few weeks for apple to release something
-
Oct 27, 2014 3:10 PM in response to PJWilkinby OceanDrifter,I believe firmly that the issue of this thread predates Yosemite, but Yosemite has caught more people and breathed life into the issue again
I think it requires a specific combination of mac hardware, OS and router to be manifest.
The kext file was something I hadn't heard about, but online research revealed it had been discussed a while ago, although not from the site I downloaded from on this thread.
The problem that Yosemite users are now experiencing has been frustrating many for a while.
Of course, if you were a Mavericks user and didn't have a problem you would be unlikely to know about it.
I don't think Apple will release a fix - they ignored Maverick's users. My hope was that the fix would be included in Yosemite. It clearly wasn't and the problem may even be exacerbated.

Oct 27, 2014 3:20 PM in response to tomstephens89by harri00413,Same issues here. Functions troublesome. Sometimes Safari works than Citrix client won't connect.

Oct 27, 2014 4:37 PM in response to DragonFly3by Javier08,The new location fix that you suggested seems to have solved my Yosemite lethargy. Everything is now loading snappily.
Thanks.

Oct 27, 2014 5:38 PM in response to tomstephens89by Gunali,I am experiencing the same issue here. Funny thing is, my connection seem to became stable if I download something (eg iOS update), but randomly dropped when I browsed.

Oct 27, 2014 6:36 PM in response to MacAwesome88by johnfromburwood,This appears to have done the trick for me. AppStore and Safari now perform as expected. Had been running the Yosemite beta on my Macbook Air. It of course had no issues with Wi-Fi so I updated the MBP 17 accordingly.
Thanks for the tip.
