Oct 28, 2014 12:12 AM in response to johnfromburwoodby ardias,I also experienced WiFi dropouts and slowdown when first installed Yosemite. It turned out that my problem was caused by a WiFi printer causing interference. For some reason Yosemite was more sensitive to it than Mavericks, or so it seemed. This printer, an HP Officejet, was setup with a WiFi connection to my local WiFi LAN and also was radiating via its own WirelessDirect beacon causing interference. Once the latter (useless in my case) was turned off, all is well.
I wonder if others using AirPrint-type printers also have by mistake dual wireless connectivity causing interference.

Oct 28, 2014 12:27 AM in response to KathrynGby skywagon,Hi, after my yesterday's message I decided to turn off for about 15 minutes my router and everything that's connected...After re-connecting....
Miracle !!! WIFI works since than without any problems and in what appears to be normal speed. Same for my iPhone 8.1 that was stuck as well with wifi connection. Location Geneva Switzerland...I hope this can help all those that sweat it.

Oct 28, 2014 1:16 AM in response to ap6iemby OceanDrifter,21 hours after applying the kext file I am still connected.
Previous to that my WiFi was unusable.
Have a look at my previous posts.
Note, I remain wary that I ran a file from an anonymous site. However, the background to the fix was sound.

Oct 28, 2014 1:21 AM in response to tomstephens89by tomstephens89,Ladies & Gents,
I am the original poster (if you didn't already know) and last night I received the following email from Apple:
Hello Tom,
I’m contacting you on behalf of AppleCare. We understand that you are having Wifi speed issue with you iOS device.
Engineering has requested that I contact you to collect some data on your issue.
Please let me know when would be a good time to call you based on my office hours listed below.
Regards,
Paul Reyes
Senior Advisor
I have detailed the issue and corrected him since its not iOS, its OS X Yosemite and reiterated that many of us are experiencing these problems, the only common denominator being OS X Yosemite. I have told him to look at the apple forums and this thread.
I will keep you updated. But remember, the more exposure to the tech community in general this issue gets, the faster apple might be able to resolve it.
Tom

Oct 28, 2014 1:24 AM in response to tomstephens89by OceanDrifter,Hi Tom
Congratulations,
Just to add my thoughts
I think the WiFi drop issue predates Yosemite,
I think it is just catching more people with successive OS upgrades. I don't know whether you saw my posts but they may help understand the underlying issue if I am correct, and so contribute towards bring a resolution for everyone.
I think it is an interaction between OS, hardware (specific model) and router, hugely problematic for some, but not everyone.

Oct 28, 2014 1:25 AM in response to tomstephens89by ctomo,Since upgrading to Yosemite, my 2014 Macbook Pro retina will not connect to my home network yet it has no problem connecting to other wifi networks, at work for example. iPhones, iPad, a Macbook pro 2012 (on mavericks) and an iMac all work on the home network without problem. My Macbook finds the wifi then self assigns an IP address (despite DHCP being set to automatic as it was when I was running mavericks) and will therefore will not connect to the internet.
I have reset SMC controller and PRAM as directed by apple support. No effect. Also with apple support, I have deleted a file called "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" from the system configuration folder. Once deleted, the Macbook connects, however, the next day, I had to delete said folder again before it would reconnect! Clearly this is not a perfect fix, but it might help until Apple solve the wifi problems Yosemite is causing.
To delete folder.... in Finder, select Go, then Go To Folders, type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration then find and delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" then restart and all will hopefully work.

I would tend to agree, when I first used Mavericks, I did experience the wifi not working after a wake from sleep, but thats all. After an update this issue disappeared for me.
This issue in Yosemite, I have only experienced it with one wifi router so far. Thats a talk talk super router which is a Huawei HG635. My wifi in the office works fine, as does another router I have swapped to at home. So this leads me to agree with you again, that it is very hardware specific.
My wifi doesn't show its disconnected in Yosemite, it just stops.

Macbbook Pro early 2011 2.3Gh i7
WiFi started dropping after a Maverick's upgrade.
Only on one router, a BT Home Hub (same issue with their Models 2, 3 and 4 - I went through 3 routers thinking it must be a router issue) (Other machines work fine with this router)
WiFi on my Macbook Pro works fine without drop outs elsewhere
WiFI doesn't show its disconnected - it just stops. BUT if you turn it off it won't turn on again.
Sometimes after a restart after the WiFi has dropped it will say 'no hardware found' - but my airport card is fine.
I applied the kext file suggested in this thread. There is provenance to the patch it provides.
I have now been connected for 21 hours without a drop
Somewhere in all of that is a clue - but I don't have a clue where.
All the best

Oct 28, 2014 1:39 AM in response to OceanDrifterby tomstephens89,I think there is most likely a bug in the wifi driver that apple is using which cause it to have problems with certain models of wifi chipsets in certain routers. OS X Yosemite seems to have manifested said bug into something that more and more users are experiencing.

Oct 28, 2014 2:12 AM in response to tomstephens89by Monty72,Definitely bluetooth related on on my Macbook Pro 15 late 2013
Bluetooth off
Bluetooth turned on and one device connected (Apple trackpad)
Nothing changed in-between the two tests other than turning on bluetooth and connecting the track pad. Wifi is rock solid stable with bluetooth off and has been for days. Come on Apple sort it out, has to be enough evidence in this thread alone that there's a problem.

Oct 28, 2014 2:18 AM in response to tomstephens89by puddytat77,Hello,
I'm experiencing the same thing on my 15" retina display macbook pro. Not stable at all. Considering going back to Mavericks. Not liking the reports that Apple are not going to issue a fix ASAP.
