Oct 28, 2014 4:03 PM in response to MacAwesome88by poppy forbes,Well bully for you but not all of us have the chutzpah to do what you have done. Some of us, dare I say it, don't even understand everything you have posted.
And guess what, we bought into Apple so that we wouldn't have problems like this.
As for being "self-centered" well I think most people who have posted on here have done so to try and help others overcome the problems encountered since downloading Yosemite.
So don't be so smug - it's very irritating!

Oct 28, 2014 4:03 PM in response to KathrynGby MacAwesome88,To all with Wifi Issues... I don't doubt that Yosemite might have a couple bugs but to say that it's riddled with bugs and Yosemite is Trash is quite self centered and untrue.... I have a non-Retina Mid 2012 MacBook Pro and Upgraded to Yosemite with ZERO problems but I also did a little homework FIRST before the Bi-Polar Mac User Took over.... Here's what I did..
Ran CleanMyMac First in Mavericks... then Rebooted.... then Installed Yosemite... and all App Updates - One at a Time....not all at once...
Then Rebooted into Recovery Mode and Ran Disk Utility to Repair Permissions then launched into Yosemite
Finally I set DNS Settings in Network Preferences to Google DNS's because they are faster then the Default Time Warner Cable DNS address supplied with my Router.... added "8.8.8.8" and "8.8.4.4" to DNS Tab.
Been running YOSEMITE Very Noticeably Faster and Snappier than Mavericks with ZERO problems. I'd be willing to bet all the people with problems here did no prep work, hadn't rebooted or cleaned their systems in months and just drove off that cliff like Thelma & Louise.
I have read these solutions below is working for the vast Majority of people....
Creating a New Wi-Fi Service (this solution worked for me!)
- Copy and paste these instructions, because you'll be disconnected from the Internet and you'll need to reboot.
- Go into your Network Preferences > Select Wi-Fi Service (in the list in the left column) > Click on the options (cog icon) > Select "Make Service Inactive" > Select Apply.
- Select the same Wi-Fi Service > Delete It ( – ). Reboot.
- Return to Network Preferences > Create a New Service ( + ).
- Inside the prompt select Wi-Fi under Interface, name the Service Name something other than Wi-Fi. (I named mine Wi-Fi2. Apparently if you retain the previous Wi-Fi name the WiFi dropping will return on reboot.) > Click Create.
- Click Apply.

Oct 28, 2014 4:20 PM in response to poppy forbesby MacAwesome88,Not trying to be SMUG but Correct those who are making Blanket statements and Accusing Apple of Total Incompetance.
There's all kinds of Gentle and Insightful help on these forums as well as YouTube Video How Tos ... and The Genius Bar at Apple Stores whom I visited yesterday and they've fixed everyone's WIFI problems that have come in....
It's just some people wanna ***** and complain without even looking at the solutions posted or trying them out.. I have a lot of paid work to do besides "paying it forward" late at night after work when I should be sleeping so I apologize if I'm not holding people's hands like I have to do with Microsoft Windows Clients.
I'm sure Apple's coming out with some bug fixes but until they're able to isolate all the various problems into One Update we just have to help each other and not get BiPolar like a friend of mine when she accuses people of taking her keys which are in her pocket.
; )

Oct 28, 2014 4:38 PM in response to MacAwesome88by poppy forbes,Unfortunately it takes a six hour round trip to get to my nearest Genius bar so I am just going to have to wait until Apple puts this right.
And the longer they take the more incompetent they look. And the more fed up those of us who don't know one end of a computer from another are with Apple for taking so long to rectify this issue.

Oct 28, 2014 4:49 PM in response to MacAwesome88by swedinburgh,The incompetence being discussed here is complete silence or lack of acknowledgement of an issue that over 65,000 customers have searched on this web page alone for an answer to. You suggesting that a fix that worked for you, is working for 65,000 other people, is simply incorrect.
For everyone else:
I have spent 4 hours on the phone today with Apple Support, who were very competent, but still unable to resolve my issue. I've gone from chat, to phone, to level 2 support, to a senior technical member of staff and I'm now engaged directly with engineering. I have been asked to recreate my problems with software installed that will capture detailed diagnostics about my network traffic, to assist engineers in understanding, replicating and fixing the problem. I can see that others have been asked to do the same.
MacAwesome ... I've got a degree in electronics and computer science and have worked in this industry for over 20 years, and all of the various suggested fixes are not working for me. So for the average Apple customer, who doesn't care to know what DNS stands for or what a PRAM is, this is beyond frustrating. This is like having a car that starts and then stops before the bottom of the drive, and when you buy a car, you don't assume to have to be a mechanic to use it.Apple have told me that this is NOT a known issue for which they are currently working on a fix, at least that's what the support staff are telling me. I suspect that engineering are currently trying to triage and understand the issue, but for this reason, I cannot imagine a fix is coming in the next few days.
I would say that at all levels of support, from front-line to engineering, Apple have shown their staff to be intelligent, compassionate and willing to help me. However, they are completely unable to resolve the issue for me, which is Yosemite on a brand new iMac.
So technically, this is anything but awesome -- product shouldn't ship where basic capabilities don't work. And it's not awesome customer service either, because step one is simply to acknowledge that we hear you, and we're on it.
MacAwesome, your cheap shots at Microsoft are just that - cheap. They ship an incredibly complex enterprise operating system, that has to be tested and operate on hardware platforms that they do not own, but belong to vendors. There is a dizzying array of motherboards, chipsets, graphics cards, device drivers, prior versions of operating systems, third party software, and they have never shipped a Windows release that didn't work for so many people when installed. You might not like the company, and you might not like the apps, but you show a lack of understanding of what it takes to ship software to 5 billion people without a hitch. Apple own the hardware stack, and they own the software stack. The complexity of an OSX release, especially onto hardware that has only your previous operating system on it, is significant orders of magnitude less than the complexity of a Microsoft Windows release. Perhaps show some humility.
All -- I will let you know how I progress with Apple engineering. I also shared with them a link to this discussion post, and suggested that they start to keep the community abreast of a timeline for resolution.

May I draw your attention to Bootcamp and Yosemite upgrade - potential data loss warning? I do not consider these as "couple of bugs".

Should this not belong in Apple documentation for Yosemite upgrade, rather than a user forum with

Are you aware of iTunes 11.4 issues? Apple does make good products, but the quality, of late, is not what made them what they are today.

Oct 28, 2014 5:08 PM in response to tomstephens89by Edward Park,I got a new retina iMac with Yosemite preinstalled and experiencing very slow WiFi connection. ( didn't use migration )
I have 1100 KB/s connection(speed test), on my iMac I get between 50-150 KB/s.
The connection doesn’t drop but it took me 3 days to download Xcode’s documentation and iOS7 simulator since it just got stuck many many times.
I’ve tried most(every) method presented in the thread but the kext. Also tried disabling bluetooth but it did not help.
Turning off handoff on all my apple devices seems to make the speed a bit faster. ( 200 KB/s )
Would it be safe to load old kext on the new Machine?

Oct 28, 2014 5:16 PM in response to swedinburghby jklpr,Thank you for this post! And thank you for calling Apple and taking the time to attempt to rectify the problem..for us all. When Mavericks came out I had system failure on all products, phone, laptop, iMac...total nightmare. For months (not kidding) I was on a first name basis and had daily conversation with senior engineers. I believe it was my diligence and willingness to communicate the problems that created a fix for others (no, I don't think I did this alone, but I also didn't sit at my computer COMPLAINING all day, either). I agree that Apple is generally very interested in fixing all the issues when something new is released. It makes no sense that they would let something fail...they didn't become the successful company they are by neglecting "issues" or "bugs". However, it is VERY disconcerting that they have not heard of this problem and aren't working on it. Let's hope that our "constructive" communication with them will work toward a rapid resolution. I've been an Apple user since the beginning...the VERY beginning...and nothing could get me to switch to the dark side. Their products, even when flawed, are simply the best.

Oct 28, 2014 5:40 PM in response to Edward Parkby jeromebob,I used the kext "fix" on my 2011 MB Air and it seems to have solved the problem .... but I also administered some other random "fixes" that same day.... anyhow... this has stopped dropping off line and the speed seems to be up to par........ just my two cents....... good luck.

Oct 28, 2014 10:41 PM in response to swedinburghby MacAwesome88,Well... I won't claim to be as omnipotent as you... because I am a musician, sound engineer, and graphic designer. I'm not a real systems techie but my brother down in Washington DC. is a Systems Administrator for Boeing and he can tell you plenty of War stories he's had with Microsoft Shipping products that don't don't work as they should... The Blue Screen of Death plagued his whole dept. in 2004... and Vista and Windows 8 two operating systems Microsoft shipped that Boeing refuses to install on even One PC..
You sound like those Old Windows IT guys that Mac users can't wait for to croak because you don't know anything more than Microsoft Office and your Microsoft Paint. Spare me with the Fancy Enterprise talk ... my cheap shot at Microsoft isn't cheap because I get $30.00 an hour to fix Windows Clients systems every day... and that ain't cheap especially when they believe that Macs are too expensive until they shell out all this money for Windows Support.
I use Adobe Creative Suite as well as very complex Music & Video creation Applications such as Adobe Premier & Logic Pro that are 100 times more complex and techie than MS Office or your bitmap Paint... so while I don't know Unix from Linux or dll's from Kext files I can get my simple WiFi working.
If you have a degree in computer science and electronics you shouldn't have needed Apple Support Level 2, 3, 4 and on and on.. you sound like one of those narcissistic know-it-alls who can't follow simple instructions but wants to talk to "the senior engineer". LOL
Here for whatever it's worth.. you probably won't read this fix because you didn't write it... B**** !
