The choice of tools that you use is your to make, at least you have a choice. Please see Is Clean My Mac 2 helpful for speeding up at Macbook Pro?
Glad to see you have a "purring" Mac, but others do not. At least forums have postings, biases and all. Such views, even if they are diametrically opposite to yours, should be respected. The volume of posts is 640+, but views are 67K (10x postings). This should be an indicator of what can potentially be wrong with 67K viewers, with only 10% posting to participate. Non-participation does not mean others do not have issues. For posters who do not have a working system, such discussions should continue. Your input is one more voice, positive or negative. Experiences may differ.
Your specific WiFi environment does not cause you problems, but someone else's does.

Oct 29, 2014 7:19 AM in response to tomstephens89by janiceva,Ok deleting the .plist files and rebooting my airport extreme has solved 99% of my problems. Ive been up for 5 days and only had one occasion of a slow down that I could say was working on my PC. Problem looks like its under control.

Oct 29, 2014 7:38 AM in response to tomstephens89by OceanDrifter,Clearly there is an issue with mac OS and WiFi.
However, I think it is now quite apparent that there are many DIFFERENT WiFi issues
and they are all being discussed and confused in this thread.
Not a particularly helpful post, but I think it needs to be recognised in order to understand this thread and the underlying causes

Oct 29, 2014 7:51 AM in response to OceanDrifterby davidfromdroitwich,Have now again tried Apple support, they again claim there is no underlying problem with Yosemite. However I demonstrated if I work through another network it is fine. They felt I had a hardware problem, which is crazy. There is something really wrong as the WiFi also fails in recovery mode.

It's a mac hardware / OS issue in my opinion.
Irrespective, have a look at my posts on this thread and I think you will find a similar experience and a resolution, although DYOR to satisfy yourself about the kext file.
I have had normal, stable WiFi for 2 days now.
Briefly,

You can see some background here (Apologies for repeating information I have already posted)
http://brielle.sosdg.org/archives/542-Fixing-Wifi-Isses-On-Some-Macs-10.8.x-incl uding-10.8.4.html
Note the issue predates Yosemite, although it has only appeared for some people upon upgrade to Yosemite. There may also be other new WiFi issues with Yosemite, such as I notice the WiFi turns off if I close the laptop and will not reconnect without a restart, this does not happen with a sleep initiated from the apple menu. I don't run any Bluetooth devices, so I can't comment on Bluetooth isssues
Maverick Wi-Fi keeps dropping!
(BTW, BT Home hub ?)

It's not a hardware issue, it's definitely software
For me, I get speed reduction when discoveryd works, or when I try Airdrop
If I turn off wifi, then unload discoveryd, then turn on wifi then reload discoveryd
My speed remains at maximum for hours after these actions
The moment I look into Airdrop in Finder the speed drops drastically and never recovers
I have a late 2013 rMBP, and none of these issues existed prior to Yosemite
As for SSID's disappearing in the scan list ... definitely software, as Mavericks did not experience this (and does not if I boot off a cloned disc of my install)

Oct 29, 2014 9:09 AM in response to PJWilkinby DavidDundonald,I have now given up. After having an online chat with Apple support and visiting the Genius bar, I still didn't have any resolution and was unable to work effectively. So I have rolled back to Mavericks (using a Time Machine backup).
My Mavericks works fine with a nice stable wifi connection (like before).
The only annoyance I have now is that my numbers and pages files I edited in Yosemite (saved in my dropbox) now won't open in Mavericks. I just get the message that I need to upgrade to Yosemite to open these files (sometimes Apple really tries my patience...)

Oct 29, 2014 9:33 AM in response to OceanDrifterby jeromebob,I also applied this fix to my 2011 Macbook Air and 2007 iMac and they both seem to work fine now (I do have odd sleep/wake stutters with the MBA at times...... I think there must still be a LOT of bugs left in 10.10) I think is really bad business on Mr. Cooks part to not say anything about this - but I really don't think he will last much longer in his lofty position.

Oct 29, 2014 9:50 AM in response to tomstephens89by WarwickRob,I have similar tales of woe.
I use an IMac, iPad and airports to stream music throughout my house. All was good until first I updated the iPad to IOS8 and the problems started. I thought it was a compatibility issue with Mavericks so I updated my IMac to Yosemite. Now I'm having major problems, especially with streaming. Airport's drop out at random, the signal goes screwy and bizarrely when I connect to my music library on the iMac using the remote app on my iPad I can get anything up to seven music library's showing up.
Apple just doesn't work at the moment.

I think there is lots going on, many WiFi issues have accumulated in the mac OS. Some hardare-Software, some just Software
Progressively more and more people are getting caught as the various issues create the 'firestorm' seen on this thread.
Each person thinks they have the same 'issue' that everyone is talking about,
I think I can identify several separate WiFI issues in this thread, which is why there are so many fixes and yet so many people saying "that fix doesn't work for me".

Oct 29, 2014 10:18 AM in response to jeromebobby OceanDrifter,This is a reply to Jeromebob, specifically
With my Powerbook I have a remaining issue where WiFi turns off if I close it and will not turn on without a restart. Sometimes a restart says Hardware Not Found.
I do not get any WiFi issues with 'sleep' instigated from the Apple menu.
This is a reproducible problem, but it is different to the drop outs that no longer happen since the kext fix.
I didn't notice I had the sleep/wake problem before as it was mixed in with the drop outs.
Yes, I'd say that WiFi has been allowed to get buggy in mac OS.

Oct 29, 2014 10:27 AM in response to givacrapby techyjunky,Tried this, did not work for me on my iMac. Worked on my MacBook Pro tho...very strange.

Oct 29, 2014 10:32 AM in response to MiguelDby techyjunky,Yup same here..I had to get an ethernet cord and manually plug in for my internet to work on Mavericks. Finally, Apple pushed an update that fished the WiFi issue. Wonder how long this will take on Yosemite...

Oct 29, 2014 10:39 AM in response to tomstephens89by Ikester,As several people pointed out, there are many different issues being reported here an this thread is no longer practical.
I did identify a very clear, reproducible interaction issue between Bluetooth and WiFi on Yosemite 10.10. I documented it here: Bluetooth interferes with WiFi in Yosemite 10.10 (reproducible). The crux of it is that turning Bluetooth ON lowers the WiFi bandwidth in a noticeable and measurable way (about 50% lower for me). It's as simple as that. Run speed tests with Bluetooth OFF and then again with Bluetooth ON. This works for me every time on two different MacBook Pros. This may or may not be related to other issues people are reporting here, including WiFi disconnections and pointer lag with a MagicMouse, etc.
I disagree with the statement that Apple doesn't listen. They may not be public about what they're doing but they're certainly aware of some of these issues. I personally had a very productive experience with Apple's senior support group today. They looked at the issue thoroughly, involved senior teams, captured a ton of diagnostic information from my computer and promised to follow up.
You have 90 days of support with Yosemite so take advantage of it! Do chat or call Apple with your problem. Explain your issue clearly. Try to find a repeatable way of reproducing the problem. Document it properly and capture as much data as you can. That's the only way Apple can do something about it. Complaining in a discussion forum makes noise and may get noticed, but sending the apple engineering team actionable data is the best way to help them help you. I would imagine that the more people who file issues with similar symptoms, the faster they'll develop a fix for it and release it. 10.10.1 anyone?
