Nov 2, 2014 6:48 AM in response to tomstephens89by jonas223,I turned off bluetooth on my iphone and it works for now. It seems to be an wifi-bluetooth-problem.
-
Nov 2, 2014 7:15 AM in response to jonas223by MortenJamesCarlsen,There are many co-factors there... And separate issues as well...
Separate Issues with 10.10 ( Which might also be interleaving each other)
1) Bluetooth interfering with 2.4 GHZ Wifi - Especially on post 2012 Mac Book Pro
(IF running a 2.4 GHZ WIFI Network - enabling bluetooth will cause interference.)
This was also the case with Mavericks. IT matters not whether the bluetooth comes internally from the mac.
IF you have your Mac bluetooth turned off and have an iPhone lying next to it with bluetooth on - the interference WILL occur on 2.4 GHZ WIFI Network
NOT Always and that has to do with the bluetooth channel not always being on the same channel as the wifi. The channels alter and when they collide your network is gone. Again THIS also happens on 10.9 and is NOT isolated to 10.10
2) 10.10 Network Problems and Internet Problems
If bluetooth has been ruled out as culprit and the problems are still persisting then most likely the cause is 10.10.
In my case I would have 100% WIFI signal AND internet connection - Only no page would load at all. And I could NOT connect to a network.
I had an iMac from 2008 running Mountain Lion standing next to the 10.10 rMBP Installation and that had full speed internet. And was successful in connecting to any network. I would go so far as to say, the 10.10 WIFI Problem is NOT a WIFI problem. But something entirely different. Because I have and so do others 100% Signal Level.
3) Airport Utility WIFI Problems
I have among others serious problems in this regard. When opening the utility it simply won't see my airport.
This too is related IMO to point 2.
I think but don't know for sure that this is somehow related to the beloved mdnsresponder and bonjour.
This helped me:
1) Deleted ALL Contents of the following Folder
MacHD/Library/Caches
MacHD/System/Library/Caches
Home//Library/Caches
Followed by
2) A Safeboot along with ONE login
Followed By
3) A Reboot with cmd+alt+p+r
Followed By
4) A new Network Location Creation
1) Go to System Preference
2) Open Network
3) Click inside the Location Tab and select 'edit locations' from its options
4) Click the '+' sign to create a new network location and give it a name.
5) When done hit Apply in the lower right corner of the system preferences to take on the changes.
I have been running my system with zero problems since doing this... but I AM expecting the problem to appear as I am not sure WHY that fixed it.
But make sure that you separate the TWO issues of Network and Bluetooth before your start trouble shooting... As fixing ONE does NOT fix the other ;-)
IHTH

Nov 2, 2014 10:55 AM in response to Lobo Mauby MW4513,The other problem is that this problem isn't consistent across Apple devices. I have two iMacs, one a late 2012 iMac (27 inch), and a newer late 2013 iMac (21.5"). Both are running OS X Yosemite. The Wifi on the late 2013 iMac works perfectly, never cuts out. The late 2012 iMac drops out every 20 minutes or so. It's a bug in OS X Yosemite, pure and simple. I've tried every purported "solution" that is out there, on this thread and on YouTube. Once I think it fixed the problem, wait a few more minutes, and Wifi goes out again.
Apple, do you read these threads? It's remarkable that a company with more than $100 billion in annual revenue cannot find the resources to fix such a severe problem, notwithstanding that it's been known since at least October 16. Hello! Anyone working over there?

Nov 2, 2014 11:58 AM in response to MW4513by Justinmg,Hi All,
I have been following the thread on and off.
My issue was desperately slow wifi. Many others have reported dropping wifi which is different. I suspect there are a few different but similar issues getting rolled up into one, which is causing difficulty with trouble shooting.
I would suggest trying to keep the fixes for the connection dropping separate to the slow connection.
My issue for the time being has been fixed by deleting system config files, and turning off handoff. We will have to wait to see if it holds, but in the meantime we should always quote our exact problem when reporting what we are doing (ideally we would have separate threads, but after 700 posts thats not going to happen!).
Good luck all.

Nov 2, 2014 12:54 PM in response to tomstephens89by SK85,"Good" to know, that I'm not the only one with this annoying WiFi issue... I've updated my MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2012) from Mavericks to Yosemite and since then I'm having problems with my internet connection. I've never had any problems with Mavericks and as all my other devices (iPad, several Smartphones, Desktop-PC) all always connected to the internet, it's definitely due to Yosemite. Apple, please fix it!

Nov 2, 2014 4:10 PM in response to kando442by Dutch,go there and post to Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookair.html
If a lot of user do that, maybe Apple will respond and do something.

Nov 2, 2014 7:45 PM in response to Dutchby ndr205,I upgraded to Yosemite on the first day - it was a disaster. My wifi was dropping constantly. I could actually trigger the drop. If I opened Google Chrome and went to certain websites (bank website, etc.). It would crash immediately and then I would have to restart. Alternatively, it would just crash while using safari for no apparent reason. I tried all the fixes on this board. They worked for a bit, but the problem came back. A few days ago, I was using Gotomypc and controlling my work computer and going back and forth between surfing the web and Gotomypc. Safari crashed, but I noticed that I still could control my work computer which made no sense to me. I realized I still had some form of Internet connection, just Safari and mail were not working. Wifi was still working. I played around for awhile and did some searches. When I upgraded to Yosemite, I did it as my user, not as the administrator. I went into my user profile and allowed me to administer the computer. I then restarted. I have not had a problem since. Chrome works fine, etc. I don't know if this will help some people, but I decided to post it. I'm not going to say this is a permanent solution, but perhaps it will help some people.

Nov 2, 2014 8:11 PM in response to tomstephens89by ch3t,Just want to throw my hat in as another person with problems. Did an upgrade to Yosemite (not a fresh install) the other night on my Mid 2012 Retina MBP (2.7GHz i7 w/ 16G), and immediately started having issues with WiFi dropping out every few minutes. It happened twice while I was writing this. I try to reconnect, and it fails 2-3 times, then finally connects. I get a few more minutes of connection, then poof, gone again. Occasionally it will appear as if no WiFi networks are available either, for a minute or so.
It has basically rendered my machine useless, since a significant portion of my work requires a connection.
I'll hang in there, but reeeeeally looking forward to a fix (and not an elaborate set of hacks put together by a blog) -- not sure what to do!
