Q: OSX Yosemite Wifi issues

Hi there,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (mid 2014 revision) to OS X Yosemite last night and am now having issues when using my home WiFi connection. Whilst it connects to either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network, it is basically unusable. Web pages take minutes to load (if they even load at all), dropbox doesn't sync because it can't get a connection and even trying to get to the router config page is extremely slow and hit/miss.

Tethering to my iPhone seems to work ok, as does using my home network via wired ethernet.

Are any others having problems with Yosemite? Wifi was working fine on Mavericks.

Tom

It seems to work for me as well.  Being somewhat inexperienced, I wonder about the security issues when granting access to all.

Can you please explain in steps what did you do? What were symptoms of your problem. I suppose you had an issue with a dropping WiFi signal. Please let us know.

I too am having the same issue. I never in my life had any issues with network connectivity before the Yosemite update. And now every 2-3 minutes it forgets the network. It's also extremely slow. I called applecare, went to the store to get help in person and NO ONE can fix the issue. When I went into the store, for whatever reason the network connectivity issue wasn't occurring so the tech guy couldn't do anything if he couldn't see the problem. Additionally, he said if the problem continued I would have to reset my computer or something to that affect. All because of a Yosemite issue. I wish I could revert back to OS X Maverick; this is THE most frustrating experience ):

How old is your modem, modem-router or router? Make sure you are running the most recent update on them. The good news is that your computer is running OK in the Apple Store. Do you have any other Apple devices connected to your network?. Honestly, I'm not counting on Apple to resolve this problem for everyone through an update. Some of us will have to replace/update their network equipment.

I have been running fine for 3 weeks +.

Tonight as I initiated a heavy sync via Dropbox, all **** broke loose again.

I am 100% sure that any fix around is nothing but a temp fix. Unfortunately.

I'm not sure how old it is. There are iPads in my house and they are all working fine however I don't believe they've been upgraded to Yosemite yet. I'm on the phone with applecare now and they are still suggesting a complete wipe. I really do hope that I do not have to do this because I'm not at all tech savvy, but I wholeheartedly believe that this drastic step is completely unnecessary, there is nothing wrong with my computer and it is Yosemite /:

I do agree with you that Apple introduced ingredients or implanted a seed for WiFi issues via Yosemite, however they will never admit because is bad for their image.

So I spoke with applecare again, and the guy I spoke with think it might be because my network security is WEP which is apparently 10-15 years old and they no longer recognize or test their products with it or something to that affect. He believes that if I change my security to WPA2 that might fix the problem. So for everyone reading this, try that and hopefully if it works!

Been using WPA2 for a few years now. Had the wifi drops about a week ago then performed   Step 1 of this: http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/ which has resulted in no more wifi issues (dropouts).

Not very many people set their network security with WAP any more because of a very low level of security. Most of us are on WPA2 Personal setting and still having the WiFi problem. I do not think there is a permanent fix on this forum. If Apple wont release an update with a fix than we will have to resolve the WiFi issue by improving our network hardware, just for the Yosemite which was deliver for free, however with a specific program affecting many of us.

Same problems here too. Had the problem for weeks. I've tried a lot of the fixes on here. Some have worked for a few days and then problem has come back

Just don't have the energy to go back to Marverics as I'll have to downgrade loads of my apps.

iPhone5, Iphone4s, ipad2, iPad Mini are all working perfectly fine. All connected to a brand new Linksys WRT1900AC

I had this issue too since I installed Yosemite. I tried everything suggested on this thread and all the tricks I could think of including messing with my router, but it was still dropping after about 30 seconds and would mostly say I had an "Invalid Password" or "Connection Timeout".

I phoned Applecare and after a *hideously long* wait managed to speak to someone. I had to refresh my preferred network list *again* and restart in recovery mode which seems to have solved my problem!!

When I stated to Applecare that I had recently installed Yosemite and was having Wifi issues, I was told that I would be given 30 days free Applecare phone support to sort out any problems. I was also told that they can't advertise this over the phone, so I would encourage everyone having problems to at least give them a call. The worst you can hear is no.

    Cheers

After having scanned the first 30p or so of this thread I triad this:

    (Spotlight search) KeyChain #enter

    Klick system

    Find your networkname

    Right klick, choose "Show Info"

Click "Acces control" (or the one not showing Attributes)

    Provide pwd if needed

Change from Ask... to All access all the time.

This fixed it on my MBP late 2012 when upgrading to Yosemite and the Wifi went bahm... My Mac Mini late 2013 on the other hand had no probs at all with the same settings no things changed.

    Enjoy!

I got the same problem with the Mac Book Air of the children. In the end, I did a fresh install and everything works fine.

After I installed K9 Web Protection it started to go wrong. I removed and again network is just fine.
