Thanks for your suggestion. I misunderstood by thinking to clean install Yosemite instead of Maverick. Clean install Maverick on my i-Mac would be a little too complicated for me to perform. My technical ability are not as good as some of you on this forum. I just wish that I didn't trust Apple. Well, I did learn my lesson once again and will never repeat this mistake again. Also by going through Yosemite and more time spent browsing I discover many other bugs or software "disagreements" which could correlate to the WiFi issue. One of them is an automatic renaming of my i-Mac in the Air Port Utility. Before, while running Maverick my computer was under one name now Yosemite adds to my i-Mac name numerical order as 1, 2 and 3. This issue is being discussed in one of forums with no fix found up to date. I did run Macintosh HD "Verify Disc Permission" and "Repair Disc Permission" in Disc Utility and will see if that is going to stabilize my i-Mac renaming and stop WiFi from dropping. What do you thing about replacing my current 3 years old Air Port Extreme with a new one? I read that the new tower shaped Air Port Extreme is much more capable then the old one.
Yes there are bugs in 10.10. If you find any, report them to feedback @ Apple... In a detailed form. They DO listen.
Dont loose your faith - they'll fix this - sooner than later.
PS - This is NOTHING compared to what we had to go thru with Mobile.me ;-)

Nov 11, 2014 12:19 AM in response to tomstephens89by ookidooki,Similar issues:
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
After upgrade to Yosemite:
- Wifi connection issues
- Not possible to connect my bluetooth mouse, it connects/disconnect erratically
- After I disable bluetooth wifi seems to become more stable.
- Shame : Upgrade = Downgrade

Nov 11, 2014 2:03 AM in response to OceanDrifterby kevinski_uk,OceanDrifter,
It's Finder thats causing it to freeze and take forever to shutdown because of the wifi issue. Finder has to check thats all connections are terminated before closing just like Explorer does in windows and this is why many different bugs are appearing. the wifi issue appears to be router DNS related and clearing caches temporary solves issues until the offending process rears it's ugly head again.
In my case
The duplicate hostname(numbering) issue was resolved by changing my computer name under sharing (and not just removing the number) on both machines
The issue of my mac freezing and having to shut down manually was resolved My turning MBP IPv6 off and on and setting my iMac to manual IPv6.
But i don't use BT on my MBP as it screws with my iMac Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse and i don't have a 5G network
still not happy with it I took the plunge and did clean installs
crazy as it sounds i did 2 clean installs twice because the first got screwed up by the Pages update and set everything back to screwed up
the second install i did, was with wifi and all my iThings turned off and installed in 15 mins and i didn't have to do any of the tweaks (so clearly made a difference turning every thing off, i mean i took the batteries out of everything even my wifi bathroom scales)
And it's all been fully functioning for about a week now and it now reboots in seconds
it makes a new TM backup but you can still get to the old ones easy enough if you know what your doing
And i have tried my MBP in 3 different locations office/pub/home with no issues so far...

Thanks for the reply
I have just turned iPv6 off - we'll see what happens
I have done a clean install twice but then I used migration assistant to transfer and so probably nullified the benefit. Too many apps to install manually.
Another problem I had is that none of my MSDOS FAT drives would mount - after much effort I found the msdosfs.kext file was missing.
I've no idea how the kext file came to be missing through 2 clean installs but I have seen a few threads about MSDOS drives not mounting; the drive appeared in Disk Utility but the partition wouldn't mount. After installing the kext file all was good. Let's hope wifi will soon 'all be good' too.

Nov 11, 2014 9:51 AM in response to tomstephens89by planetfifa,Guys, I heard today of a second developers' beta for OS X version 10.10.1. Into the release notes there's WiFi into the Focus Areas, so they are hopefully fixing this. If somebody registered as an Apple Developer could tell us if there were any improvements, it would be awesome.

Nov 11, 2014 10:44 AM in response to OceanDrifterby jeromebob,I just went to an external wifi device to connect to the internet... seems fine now.... not using the wifi on my iMac but using a little amplified wifi adapter that uses a Railing 3070 chipset (THAT has it's own problems with Yosemite.... you have to find a modified driver online for it in order to work with Yosemite ..... just an FYI if you decide to go that route.... I found one that works on this page: http://store.bearextender.com/pages/support) - so until Apple finds a 'fix' for this I am using an external Wifi adapter from now on...... hope this helps (there are many of these devices on Ebay - I got mine for only about 16 bucks with free shipping.... was well worth the trouble..... internet is finally working now with no dropouts every couple of minutes.... I tried most of the "fixes" here and have had only limited success (not sure why wifi turns to crap after a short while after it seems to be 'fixed')...... anyhow.... just wanted to pass this along.

Nov 11, 2014 10:44 AM in response to planetfifaby Warszawa,That is an encouraging news. I don't want to be skeptical or negative but how much longer is going to take Apple to release a fix? I doubt if it is going to happen before Christmas. Meantime, how we suppose to use our computers?

Nov 11, 2014 3:07 PM in response to MortenJamesCarlsenby Warszawa,Very good point. The beta versions of any software are for internal study and not to be share publicly. I have mentioned it before but I'm seriously considering dropping $200.00 on a new 2014 Airport Extreme. My current 2011 Airport Extreme connected to Motorola 2011 Surf Board cable modem is 3.5 years old and could be causing my WiFi signal to drop(?). Again, the signal almost never drops during browsing or lite computer use. It drops a frequently when I download movies to an external USB connected LaCie Hard Drive or during streaming these movies to an Apple TV for play back via Home Sharing from my 2012 i-Mac. What do you guys think? Should I go for it or continue hopping that Apple will fix it one day. As I stated; I have lost trust in Apple, especially in their software design department. Did any of you resolved dropping WiFi signal after downloading Yosemite by replacing router?

Nov 12, 2014 2:16 AM in response to tomstephens89by ychan,Have had the same issues over the last week since upgrading to Yosemite. Wasted HOURS AND HOURS trawling through forums for a fix and tried pretty much everything.
What has finally worked for me was changing the type of wireless security from WPA Personal to WPA2 Personal.
Connected permanently again!!
