external usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite

No solution, but am experiencing the same problem on a 2008 Mac Pro using the old FW iSight external camera. The Sound pref pane indicates the audio is picked up, but it is not relayed to the phone/caller.

I am having the same issue. Interestingly, it does work with FaceTime video calls, but not on calls picked up from my iPhone. It defaults to my display mic even though it allows me to select my USB mic. In my case an Apogee Mic.

I am experiencing the same issue.

My external webcam has a built-in mic, it was working without an issue on Mavericks.

After I updated to Yosemite, FaceTime is unable to use that external mic, although the system recognizes the mic.

Same problem. Logitech webcam and BlueSnowball mics not working. Worked fine with Mavericks. Mac mini mid 2009. FaceTime videi works, Lync calling works but picking up a call from my iPhone results in no audio from the connected (and selected) mic.

i have the same issue on my Mid 2012 Mac Mini running the official release build of Yosemite.

My mic connected to my Creative HD 720p Web Cam shows as working in the sound options and you can make or receive FaceTime calls fine, but the mic does not work when accepting calls on my mac via my iPhone.

Please sort this apple !!!

I am also having the same problem with a Corsair USB headset, Worked fine on Mavericks but Microphone does not seem to be working under Yosemite.

Found this article and it worked for me. Logitech webcam microphone is now working.

Go to Terminal and type: "sudo killall coreaudiod" (of course, without the quotes)

Thanks for info, I hadn't found that article. Did not work for me to get my FW iSight mic to work via "Call from iPhone", but it does work in FaceTime.

I don't think this is the issue with the public release of Yosemite. I never had any issue with external mic with FaceTime or with other audio device input/output issues in other situations. It is the regular phone call to an iPhone being answered on Yosemite that presents the problem. The FaceTime software is just not recognizing external USB mikes, in spite of the fact that the system does recognize the USB, in this scenario. This is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed in the first Yosemite maintenance release.

Interesting. I don't have a USB mic on the Mac Pro. Its the OLD FireWire 300 iSight. It works for FaceTime calls but not the iPhone call via the FaceTime app.

I also have 2010 MBP that works perfectly, even since the first Public Beta. I'm to sure if that mic is considered an external USB device or not, or if it has to do with device signatures vs. external or internal. I would almost assume that the built-in mic is on the USB bus. How would it be any different than the external USB.

I think I have to agree that this is a point release bug. I have submitted a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, and would ask others to do the same, or at least post to apple.com/feedback. The more noise we make through process the more likely to get a fix in the .1 release.

While I'm glad this worked for you, it has not for myself and others.

It does make me hopeful that there is a way to correct this behavior in software.
