external usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite

Unfortunately I've just hit this problem. Bought an external USB mic (Samson) and hoped to use it for FaceTime audio calls via my iPhone. No chance. FaceTime refuses to use the Samson mic even though I can use it in Garageband etc without any problems. I've tried the kill core audio hack but it's not working. Come on Apple! This problem has been festering for long enough judging from the feedback here. Please fix it.

everyone keeps saying 'come on apple fix this' but are they even aware of it, have they acknowledged it, or are they doing their usual head in the sand and hope it goes away?

Same thing happened to me and "Kill core" worked. Until I restart the machine. Must repeat the action every time computer is turned on. BUT most important thing is to release a gold Macbook that will make customers buy adapters for $100, never mind fixing basic necessities. Oh Apple..... Sigh...

So it appears that there is some good news on this front. I experienced this issue on my Macbook Pro 13" 2010 on Yosemite. This seems to be corrected in the first beta of El Capitan based on my recent experience.

I was a little nervous about this, but it worked (for Mac Pro Tower, Early 2009, 2x2.26 Quad, Yosemite 10.10.4).

I have installed the El Capitan Public Beta (and update) but this still doesn't work for me using my Logitech C650 webcam on my late 2012 Mac mini making phone calls. Even though I have told FaceTime to use the webcam microphone its still the same as before, i.e. mic not working (no errors). Can anyone else confirm either way?

I mean Logitech C615. And the kill command didn't help either.

Scrap that - it does seem to work after all. In System Preferences I had to select the webcam under Input. Happy days 🙂

Uhm I'm not sure if you guys realize you need to select the microphone in FaceTime separately, under Video -> Microphone -> select yours

has anyone experienced issues specifically in Google Chrome? i ask because i have a lot of software that i use that when in Google Chrome apps only works with one type of mic but doesn't work in any others like USB/Yeti mics. Haven't seen any fix at all to get around this from Google. My config is a Macbook Pro running the latest version of Google v.43 or something (not on the machine at the moment). Yosemite 10.10.4. I have the built in, a Logitec C920 (which is the only mic that works) and a Yeti. Any Chrome based software that uses audio capture in any way (like Hangouts or other developer software) will not work with my other mics. Wondering if the kill audio fix will work in this capacity or if anyone else has isolated Google Chrome software issues...

I filed an official developer bug complaint on this issue about a year ago maybe. I got a notice back saying it's a known bug. Great. Still not fixed.

Apple will not make it a priority unless they hear from the public that it's a priority. You can give your feedback at the link below.
