Q: MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) freeze with Yosemite

After installing the OS X Yosemite my MBP Retina starts freezing due to graphic problems. The only option is to restart the Mac

How to find the problem and solve it?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

@philab - Thank you for that response. While switching on/off several times may not represent normal usage it should be sufficient enough to raise flags when presented as a repeatable issue on multiple machines. With my use of Photoshop and Photoshop's need for the Performance GPU, the issue is easily repeatable on my MBP but my work around is working great for me for the time being so as long as Apple is working on it, I can wait.

    Hello, guys.

I just installed the 10.10.3 and made 200 switching ON/OFF Automatic Graphics Switching.

And CPU didn't freeze. Let's hope that problem is solved.

But i suggest that problem was in Display driver and it will occur after using external display for a while.

The first time ever this problem happened in a month when i bought external display.

I'll write here again if i can freeze MBP usual way (with only mouse pointer working)

This is good news, at least for those of us with the problem being addressed here. Thanks for reporting.

Could we get more reports from those who installed 10.10.3 beta? Could you guys please repetedly toggle the checkbox "Automatic graphics switching" from System Preferences > Energy Saver? ... just do it quickly (e.g. twice a second) many times (some say more than 50).

after some tests (opening 200 times programs that uses the nvidia graphic card) the problem seems resolved.

Please be sure that switching happens. Use gfxCardStatus for indicate. Because if you switch it while, for example, Photoshop is running, there is always NVidia card using with both options

I am currently on the 10.10.2 with MBP 2014 mid. I can reproduce issue going to the web page, which will require graphic switch, via Safari or any other browser. If Automatic graphics switching is enabled, freeze is always happening. However forcing using integrated or discrete graphic adapter is always stable at this point. Would you able to check that, enable auto switching, go to the page, just press this and that, I tried click flicker image and etc. However for me freeze is happening mostly once I am pressing on the link (when switch is enabled). This issue pretty annoying, I can't believe that it is solved in 10.10.3. edoardopa, would you able to check that and confirm?

Please try to install 10.10.3 beta.

After i've installed it, i try to freeze my MBP for 3 days already. And i can't. I tried to switch Automatic Graphic switching (what always worked for me), also i tried to start and quit photoshop (what always switch graphic), i tried several links. Your link can't freeze my MBP too.

Please everybody try this version, it's really interesting, will somebody see the usual symptoms there.

Register your Apple ID for taking part in Beta program

    https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

Then download app, called Feedback Assistant  (Apple will give you link after registering), log in there.

And you will see 10.10.3 update in AppStore app, Updates section.

I have been upgrade to 10.10.3 beta, and turn on auto switch graphic, used about 1 day, haven't find this issue again.

Before upgrade mac os, this issue can duplicate in few hours.

It seems, upgrade to 10.10.3 will fix this issue.

Good news so far. I have been on the 10.10.3 Beta now for almost a week, with graphics switching on, and no crashes yet. It seems like they have resolved the issue.

As i mentioned before in many of my earlier post here at this thread, this is certainly not a hardware manufacture bug that happened to show it self in 10.10 Yosemite, but rather a software bug/glitch. I have to test this version 10.10.3 before i can say "told you so" especially to user: ntennies. haha.

Sorry for off-topic, I heard on 10.10.3 there is wi-fi bug back, is that true?
