iPhoto not opening after downloading Yosemite

did you update iPhoto to 9.6?

The same for me, and iphoto 9.6 refuses to be installed !!

I've got the same problem.

Installed Yosemite, updated iPhoto, and now it doesn't work...

Tried reinstalling iPhoto, got the same result.

Can you type out the error message. Your image isn’t showing to me which seems to be a regular issue here, now.

Yosemite is having numerous problems some people cannot even get it to install, I was one of them called Apple they could not solve the problem have reverted to Mavericks.Apple told me to wait a couple of weeks to reinstall Yosemite as there are numerous problems with it.

it is not fit for purpose I bet Steve jobs is turning in his grave.

apple can see the hundreds of posts about Yosemite but are staying very quiet.

FUD. Works just fine. Has been working fine for months.

Did you ever install any Python modifications. It appears that it cannot find the correct version of Python.

It could just be that the install didn’t correctly update those things.

You could try to reinstall the OS and hopefully it will correct anything that wasn’t fully updated.

I had the same problem... I upgraded iMovie and then opened it to see if it was OK... it worked thankfully... then in iMovie itself it has a tab at the top left for 'iPhoto Library' so I clicked it and to my surprise it opened my photos in iPhoto! So I clicked iPhoto icon and it said I needed to upgrade... I clicked upgrade and it then said my permissions need fixed... I clicked OK and would you believe it, it went ahead and upgraded! It rejigged the database which took a bit of time but then that was it! It works!

Exactly same problem !!

iPhoto had no entry symbol at dock , so tried to update from App Store and all that happened was a spinning wheel on App Store NOT the rainbow wheel you get with system. Shutdown and restarted, same symbol and then App Store says updated iPhoto and iPhoto to update , this was last straw of many issues with Yosemite and finally fixed by erasing drive and re- installing a Mavericks back up

Every single update to anything and some users will have issues. Before declaring there are lots of problems with the OS you'll need to explain all the folks who have installed it with no problems. And yes, Apple can see hundreds of posts but

a: there are millions of installs of the OS

b: Apple don't respond here. They never do. It's all explained in the terms of use you agreed to when you signed up.

c: the reference to Steve Jobs, apart from being disrespectful, is utterly fatuous. Go back through the archives of this forum to any OS or app that shipped when he was alive and you'll see exactly the same kinds of posts - often from the same people.

Really, grow up.

My iPhoto upgrade worked fine after I installed and ran the iPhoto Library Upgrader.

I had the same problem. I ended up dragging the iPhoto app to the trash. I then re-downloaded it from the app store. It now works fine. I did not loose any photos in the process.
