Interesting, thanks for your help. I've had issues with bluetooth since purchasing my macbook. When I first got it, it would find my wireless speakers connect, then disconnect after a second or two. I tried for days searching a resolution and couldn't find anything that fixed the issue. ugh

    Thank you RLBL!

Many 'helpful' people give a sketchy answer which is of little help to newbies.  They rattle off something and do not think carefully and logically, the only way to teach.

I for one especially appreciate instructions that are clear, do not skip over steps, like you.

I have one of the older laptops, but this fixed it for me. Basically you reset your network connections on your iPhone.

Here's a site that discusses BlueTooth related issues.

    See if that site helps.

There is a way to clear the Bluetooth cache by using Terminal, here's a link to the instructions.

I would have to agree.  BEFORE I got a iPhone6 I had a Iphone5s  and before I updated to Yosemite..  I didn't pair the devices they just worked together, my texts showed up on my computer, my computer rang when my phone rang, and I did NOTHING to make this happen they just saw each other and worked together.  I see it as a APPLE SOFTWARE problem!!  I have talked to apple support they have no answers.

Apple this is a known problem, you advertise it as this wonderful feature..  Your wonderful feature  does NOT work!!!  The frustrating thing is that it DID WORK, I loved it and used it all the time and now I don't have it and it doesn't work and I miss it!!  I have THOUSANDS of dollars in APPLE computers/phones COME ON APPLE YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE!!!

This is how they force you to want a new apple. I read that on purpose, any apple made before 2012 will not pair with newer devices. Yuk I want a new one now!

I figured it out with a little research. This is how they force you to want a new apple. I read that on purpose apple has made it this way so that any apple made before 2012 will not pair with newer devices so you can't do the hand off. The hand off worked with my cell phone 5C but now I have 6 + and while before everything like texts, kept up together on text on computer, cell and ipad now will only work on devices created after 2012. So if you want it work you have to have a newer device than 2012. Have the same issue because of this. Yuk I too want a new mac now!

You would have failed a high school research project.

The hardware required to employ this new technology was only released to the public in the middle of 2011. It was available in Macs starting in the 2012 development cycle.

Although this may be true Barney15E, I read this on the apple support website. It simply said that any computer made after 2012 will not hook up with the newer phones. Now my 5C hooked up fine with my 2011 computer and did the hand off but if you want your new iPhone 6 or 6 plus to hand off you won't get it from apple without a new computer. Figure it out. Has anyone called? After I read that I figured why bother. And perhaps apple is in the habit of misinforming their buyers. You probably know more than they do right?

I'm not sure what you are talking about. The spec page you posted says the same thing I did. You need a 2012 or later Mac to use Continuity which is because of the Bluetooth 4.0 hardware required.

recently purchased a MBP that has Yosemite 10.10.3 installed in it. I am trying to connect it to my iPhone 6 to Browse files on my iPhone but it connects and disconnects. it says "my macbook is not supported" or "it is not in range"! Can anyone help me with this?

You cannot browse files on your iPhone. That has never been supported.

    Hi barney,

I am a first time mac user so maybe I am wrong at this. But this is what I can see in my mac:

    IMG_9915.JPG

as you can see, I was trying to explore this very option of "browse my files on device" when the connection failure occurred.

is there any way to fix the bluetooth connection issues?
