Q: No internet connection after installing yosemite

After installing Yosemite, I have no internet connection. If I hold option key, my wifi description shows Internet as unreachable, although all my bars are dark and the rest of the settings  look the same. When I connected via cable, it did not show an Ethernet connection. My pc and iPad work fine,so it isn't my carrier.  Anyone else have this problem and know a fix???  Thanks so much for any assistance..

No internet PERIOD for me — Safari. Chrome. Cloud based apps, etc. Nothing works. I'll have it for about 30 seconds and then it all stalls.

Now, I have my rMBP set up with an administrator account and I work in a user account. When I switched the the Admin account, the internet works fine~ Switch back to the personal account last night and it was fine for a few hours. This morning, the personal account is messed up again but the admin works. Hmmmm. I have no

The only suggestion I have found that works for me is to have the system "forget" the wifi connection EVERY TIME I turn the computer on. However I can log into my neighbors wifi with no problems. I called my internet provider and they changed my wifi name but that also did not help. Same problem exists with Chrome. I also can't get time machine to work as after over 2 hours it was still preparing to backup, which is a little ridiculous. Also can't get Clean my Mac to work...going to use my pc until they have a patch to fix all this nonsense. I thank everyone for all the suggestions.

I called Apple Support, and this is the solution they gave me:

    Open Finder

On the top of your screen, there is a menu button that says go, click it and select computer.

    Click Macintosh HD

    Click Library

    Click Preferences

Scroll down to SystemConfiguration, it is at the bottom, delete it, and restart your Mac.

    Hope this helps:)

The Genius Desk tried this in the store and it didn't work - I could load my home page only, then it timed out and said I had no connection. Thanks for trying!

I have a problem with Chrome that apparently doesn't exist with Safari.  At work we use a browser based login and the way it works is when we open the browser, it automatically loads the login page.  This never was a problem but after the upgrade, Chrome will not load it.  Instead it cycles through and gives me an error.

Chrome is my preferred browser so I'd really like to figure out what is causing this.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

This sudo thing worked but on reboot internet connection is lost again. System did then crash a bit later and restarted itself without net.

Opera is working slowly but Safari and Firefox do not connect and Appstore will also not connect so updates not possible.

spent over 5 hours Saturday and 5 hours Sunday on this. Had a 3 and  a half hour connection to a senior helper but then he told me to try a different DNS and that goosed my internet so i lost him forever.

Paid £60 for Apple help but they are difficult to contact weekends and after a while cut you off and can't then be got back, even with issue number.

I reinstalled Mavericks eventually and then tried to reinstall Yosemite four times.

OMG this is like being back to Windows PC........

It's pretty sloppy work on their part.  This is a major problem.  I'm hoping that they fix this with the next update and that it comes out soon.  Until then, I can deal with the sudo fix.

There are a lot of people affected by this, so it's not some strange corner case, and they've been having issues with this particular stuff for a while.

Not really much excuse for this major of an error.

And now it's not working.  Something odd has definitely happened with how my computer is dealing with this internet service.

I have tried to input these commands in the command:

    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

I have to input the above commands every time when I reboot my Macbook air. This is so annoying. I find out some network launch daemons are stuck.

I finally solve the above issues in following ways:

    - Backup all your application into a USB external hardisk or Time Machine

    - Installed a new fresh copy of Yosemite and copy all files under /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ to a USB flash drive

    - Restore back all your application by migration assistant from the Time Machine or by USB external hardisk

    - Replace /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ with the new fresh copy of Yosemite

Reboot your machine. Internet works perfectly even after reboot.

That´s it Eddie Chan, well done!

I used a slightly different way:

    - Installed just the upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite

    (No internet except chrome)

-Created a USB boot device with Yosemite

-Replaced /System/Library/Launch Daemons folder with the one from the USB boot device Yosemite install file

    -Reboot. Done!

    Thanks Eddie Chan!

HHi Barry_23, would it be possible for you to upload a copy of the launchdaemons folder from the uSB  boot device? And can we use that to replace our problematic launchdaemons folder? Pretty pls.
