Why does Java Runtime Environment message appear when I boot into Yosemite?
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Late 2009, 16GB

By the way...this problem does NOT occur on my MacBook Air (2013). It only occurs on my iMac (2009).
Just installed Yosemite today and have this same problem.
At first I had Java 7, then I updated to Java 8, and then I uninstalled Java. Same ****, I still get this message every time I start up.
What is "this web content" ?? Java should not be necessary in any way to run Yosemite and standard Apple applications.
(sorry, this was not an answer, mtroum - just my frustrations on the same issue)
What website is loading in Safari?
I am having this problem on both my 09 and 13 imac. Both upgraded from current OS and both very stable machines.
In response to Barney it has nothing to do with any app being open. We get the message at boot and periodically while the machine is on. It is NOT a Safari or website issue. Could we all have a common startup app we are unaware of that does not recognize Java 8?
It is something that is accessing the web. It is asking for the JRE to display a web applet.
Strange, are we only 3 persons having this problem..??
The message is there at startup, before any applications being launched (by user).
I too am experiencing this. I hate it on the beta releases as well as the final release, even after a clean install. Early 2011 MBP.
I have had this problem too right from the very first day I upgraded to Yosemite. I am on a MacBook Pro (Mid 2009). I guess we all have the problem!
Installing Apple's Java from this link should stop that message from appearing.

Llink already posted several times. Other option is to uninstall the program that has to use Java 6.
thanks
