Yosemite Battery Drain

I have been using Yosemite Beta for about a month. My battery drained incredibly fast using the Beta. I suspected battery issues would improve after updating to the public release of Yosemite yesterday. The issue has not resolved, however. Just in the last minute and a half of typing this question, my battery percentage has dropped 3%!

When you update, you get the notification that you need to optimize your mac to prevent excessive battery drain, but there is no description of how to optimize within Yosemite or on the web. How does one optimize their mac for Yosemite?

Apple, get on this!

As people claim, this is the buggiest OS EVER came from apple. so it doesn't matter how your flip the coin,

this OS is still in beta stages and shouldn't release with so many laptops ( old & new ) effected by it.

It's starting with the battery Issues and ending with the WIFI problem, Ohh and if you think there's no WIFI problem in your laptop

just wait and it will come hunt you.

it's took me like 3-4 hours to fix it with guides I've read on internet.

I have no problem with new things and bugs, I do have problem with apple not releasing a quick fix or patch to fix these issues.

Don't understand why they just ignore it (for month now).

Nov 13, 2014 5:21 AM in response to Csound1

really ?

did you ever google Yosemite ?

the 2nd and 3rd result is about WiFi issues, so please don't give me this 17 macs not Bugs.

I love apple products, but you have to admit that sometimes they are arrogant.

what's the big deal to declare you have a problem ?

people will give more respect to company that admit they have bugs and going to fix it, to a company that ignore them and whisper to the Dev people, " PSSsst, is there still bugs on 10.10.1 ?"

Believe me, i'm all around player I have Mac Pro, iPhone 6 plus, Galaxy S5 and of course PC ( i'm an app developer).

I always loved apple because of there service since samsung is not the "best" experience I had, but still apple products are much expensive than them, so you do expect more.

Nov 14, 2014 9:54 AM in response to Csound1

How lucky that all your Apple experiences are trouble-free. But how odd you won't acknowledge the Yosemite battery problem so many are having. There are dozens of people in this very thread experiencing it. There are, really, truly, many people (just look back on this thread) who had glorious pre-Yosemite battery performance, and very, drastically diminished performance post-Yosemite. So, you know, we're going to draw the obvious conclusion that migrating to Yosemite is somehow at the root of the problem. How? What's it doing? We don't know. We're not software engineers. I'm an art director and professor. I just want my old Mac back.

On my Retina Mid-2012 Macbook Pro; pre-Yosemite, always fast charges and 8 hours or so of working time, depending on activity. Post-Yosemite, fast charging still, but only 3-4 hours, at best, on a charge, depending on activity.

Here's the etrecheck so I can add to the pile of data not doing anyone any good:

Just a 'me too' here. Battery performance consistently amazing pre-Yosemite, consistently horrible post-Yosemite. I don't care if that language is not technically proficient enough for the engineers listening in. That's how many people who use Macs speak, and that's how we report problems—worked great before, now it doesn't.

Mid-2012 Retina Macbook Pro. Used to get around 8 hours, now around 3-4. Oh, and this (doesn't mean anything to me):

Nope, you're wrong! I AM the kind of person who makes things up, clearly. I said 'all' of your Apple experiences have been trouble free, when you actually only typed that your experience upgrading 17 Macs to Yosemite have resulted in zero problems. Maybe you didn't say "zero problems". Maybe it was "no issues"?You couldn't possibly have gathered from what I said that I might be referring to your 100% success rate upgrading Macs to Yosemite?

Only complaints about my wild, libellous, claims, or do you actually have any light to shed on this?

It doesn't matter that this is "the least buggy version" you have seen so far. That's nice for you, and Apple, but that doesn't mean there aren't dozens of people—just here on this thread—who are experiencing a real problem.

Just upgraded to yosemite and the battery issue is really bothering me. Would appreciate if you could help identify the problem.

My advise - if you can live without fancy features Yosemite offers, just downgrade your OS and wait till this problem is solved.

I did so on my wife's macbook and everything is back to normal. I will do so on mine and that's it. Conclusion is that battery drain was clearly caused by Yosemite upgrade. Although I like apple I am not "iSheep" so if I find that any other platform serves me better I will sell all my iMacs, macbooks, iPods and iPhones and convert again.

For all

do not complain or seek for help on this forum. Just let know independent e-zines or magazines about this issue so they'll start writing about it and you will see patch coming sooner than you would ever think. Battery life is no.1 question accross all competitors and is always mentioned during key notes so having negative articles about this topic will make the job.

Stop reporting here, there is no (and will never be) remedy on this forum.

Nov 15, 2014 2:47 AM in response to Joel.P2

hmm looks like you may be running on minimum RAM, 4Gb . First off quit all apps, open disk unity and run 'Repair Disc Permisions a couple of times, keep an eye on any issues flagged up. Do worry too much if you can't reduce repairs to zero.

Run Etre check again and compare any issues, check the Page Outs see if its dropped.

Is this a 'fresh' install of Yosemite? ...i'e save all your files to external drive ...erase HD then load new OS?
