Yosemite Battery Drain

I have been using Yosemite Beta for about a month. My battery drained incredibly fast using the Beta. I suspected battery issues would improve after updating to the public release of Yosemite yesterday. The issue has not resolved, however. Just in the last minute and a half of typing this question, my battery percentage has dropped 3%!

When you update, you get the notification that you need to optimize your mac to prevent excessive battery drain, but there is no description of how to optimize within Yosemite or on the web. How does one optimize their mac for Yosemite?

Apple, get on this!

Since installation of Yosemite on my late 2008 MacBook my original battery has died. Maybe it was time, but it was holding 2.5 hours when the "service battery" message appeared. I have installed a new battery with little improvement then did the 10.10.3 upgrade. One cycle into it I now hold approximately 4.5 hours of charge. We'll see if that improves but I think I can live with that. No messages and functioning at 100% according to the top menu bar.

That would be a good experiment; I recall several users on this thread who wanted to try but we never heard any feedback. I wanted to but I don't have the proper tools nor the time to try...

Anyway, if anyone feels like trying, iFixit has the tools and they provide guidances : https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Mid+2014+Battery +Replacement/27832

I somehow got my battery life back on my rMBP 2014 13", now running OS X 10.10.3.

For a couple of weeks I've been running Maverics on it after all that Yosemite battery fiasco, but since it's not my main computer, I've decided to try the latest Yosemite update.

I wasn't really expecting anything, so I didn't bother with a clean install, and instead updated straight from Maverics.

What do you know, the battery life seems to be back to normal after the update (roughly 10 hours of mixed usage). I'll still be monitoring the issue though, since no release notes mentioned anything about battery and there is no single solution (if any) to the problem in this and other threads.

Yes, they are not taking the responsability truly, and I don't think they will at any time. Apple has this "thing" about claim itself responsable for any kind of error. The official assistance here in my city (Brasil) sent me back my MBA saying they didn't find any kind of problem with my baterry duration... so you can see how bad they're getting around with it

They just don't care anymore. Not about their computers at least. I have had this feeling for a while now and this experience with my latest Macbook Pro I got last fall just proves it. There is clearly a problem here but but I and other Mac-users get just sold lies by Apple employees who baseless blame the problem on things like Bluetooth and Chrome. I bought my first Mac Pro almost 15 years ago when I was 21 and I've bought a new Pro machine every 2-3 years ever since but this will probably be my last. I cannot even take my brand new "Pro" laptop on my regular L.A. to New York. work flight because my battery won't last the 5 hour flight even if all I have running is Pages. Instead I have to bring my almost 4 year old Lenovo. The Lenovo's battery started to cave in on me recently but all I had to do was to replace it and my battery life was back. With my Macbook Pro, I go to the Apple Store and I get told there is nothing wrong with my machine even if, with only Pages running, I get a life of less than 4 hours. It's been seven months, Apple are not going to do anything about it, we might as well close this thread.
