Can I restore previous functionality of the Maximize button in Yosemite

Yosemite is taking a little getting use to; I love the new look, but there are little things that are bugging me. With previous version of OS X, I could be on a webpage, and click the maximize button in the upper left corner, and it would maximize just enough to view the entire width of the webpage, which is what I loved. It would maximize to what you need without wasting your screen real estate; there was a distinction between maximize and fullscreen options. With Yosemite, they seemed to have taken a queue from Windows, and just made it less intuitive with simply turning maximize into a full screen option. Is there a way to revive this previous feature? (without reverting back to Mavericks)

Im my opinion the change makes sence... Green to Maximise screen next to the other buttons...

Zoom view (can be used with alt) but more importantly it works with DOUBLE CLICKING Top toolbar! This is MUCH easier than moving mouse/trackpad to the little green dot... (Yes I am aware that not all 3rd Party apps have the double click enabled.. But I really believe it will soon be part of the protocol/user experience in all OSX apps...) Anyways it practically works in almost all new apps...

I think people are just so used to their ways they are SOOO against something mildly new... Even if it increases performance...

I mean its not like they pulled a Windows 8 on us... They enforced tiny little changes... You will find there are intuitive solutions, to work more effectively

Can someone explain to me what the issue is for not being able to double click titlebar of an app? Is it not easier? I mean think it about it from a neutral point of view, and not from a historical creature of habit mindset...

We cant never enforce positive change because older users are soo against anything mildly new or different.

Lets look at it more objectively:

Double clicking space for zoom view -> VS <- Clicking green button for max screen.... Ease of activation of process

User uploaded file

Its a no brainer... Its a heck of a lot easier to just double click title bar...

I prefer this... Its a very welcome change!

Yes Zoom view is more effective proccess... And they have made it easier to activate...

Hi,

The change is still a little cumbersome. In detail, some apps do not have a title bar (example: the Notes App which is an Apple app) and others do not behave as expected or make it very difficult to click on the title bar (aka. default mode in Firefox). It's probably best to leave some freedom to users with these changes with a preference option. One smart move would have been to chose CTRL as the modifier key instead of ALT, then maybe we could have right-clicked the green button to get the old behavior back...

best

Fair point.

I know you want apple to change things..

But here is a solution:

Download BetterTouchTool you can make right clicking green button smartzoom screen... Amongst lots of other benefits like Windows type window snapping i.e. drag to right to take right half of screen for the app.....

BetterTouchTool is best customisation tool for a Mac... I swear by it... Give it a go

I found this change to be a hasty shade of winter. Apple does a lot of things well, but what they don't do well is thorough testing, or more importantly, research. They pretty much just do what they assume customers need/want. Apple cannot deny they didn't think about the fact that for users with multiple screens, when clicking the maximize button, the spare screens go black. Out of the simplest things that any tester would have caught, Apple didn't catch this! My perception of Apple's research abilities and careful testing is totally gone.

That's exactly what happened to me. When I upgraded to Yosemite I couldn't work anymore. It was absolutely impossible to work with two screens. It was so bad and annoying that I was thinking of switching back to Windows. One single feature had turned the whole system completely useless. But fortunately, the guys here told me about the BetterTouchTool, and it was so good that two days later I went to the Apple store and bought a new MacBook Pro. My mood changed completely. It is sad that we have to get a third party app to make things work. The work of Apple in this last OS is horrible, but I solved my problem and now I'm enjoying it.

Sorry if it sounds like a commercial but that's what happened :-)

I used to use that feature a lot too. I did prefer the green zoom button and fullscreen buttons to be separate. However there is kind of a work around. If you install BetterTouchTool http://www.boastr.net you can set up a macro so when you say right click on the green button it will zoom (or as I have it, when I double click on the title bar).

BetterTouchTool is really useful, you can get an app for the iPhone too so you can use that to control the Mac as well.
