Hi
I just installed Yosemite on an old iMac 2009 system , everything was going okay but after the 2nd reboot i got stuck at a white screen with only a cursor....
It does nothing....for hours.
I rebooted 3 times already and now it is stuck on an apple logo with a progress bar on 30%/40% percent , nothing is happening.....also for hours...
What is going on!!! , anyone knows?

Your post actually helped me. I was stuck on the white screen after 3 restarts with no success. I typed in my admin password and then things happened. It seems like a window was supposed to appear to enter the password and the computer was waiting for it to continue but that was not visible to me (or many others). If you are stuck on the white screen with the cursor, I recommend typing in your admin password to see if that works
My computer is 2011 model and it's been stuck on the gray screen with the apple logo and the progress bar since Thursday....it is now Monday. I finally got it to go into safe mode and than after a couple hours it went right back to the screen. I deleted McAfee before I even started downloading the new software so that can't be the problem. Apple better get on this asap.

Gosh, michaelkellermann1991! It would never have occured to me to try to blindly click on a white screen.
But it worked for me too! I had reinstalled Yosemite three times (using command-R when boot failed) but could never get a clean boot.
I am all set now. Thank you for the insight.

I rebooted and at the chime pressed Option then reinstalled Yosemite. I again got the white screen and cursor and clicked the middle of screen, typed in my password and then clicked a couple of times again and "voila" it opened. I like the new operating system but am not too happy about the fact that iPhoto is being discontinued and being replaced by Pictures. I cannot find much online on how it works but had the experience when I inserted my camera card that pictures opened and my photos downloaded into it.....they also went into iPhotos and I am still struggling with how Pictures works.
Just figured it out. Had to remove MCafee software. It must have been blocking the completion of the boot. Both on the imac and the mac air, now works fine.

Ok thanks! Hope somebody will help us shortly. First time i got such a bug with my Mac, i'm glad to still have my PC to go online... 😝

I luckely have a tablet and phone to go online with so it not a problem at the moment but i hope it does not take long....

i I have the same issue it has been stuck on the Apple logo at 40% for 8 hours. Cannot do anything. Someone please help. Apple where are you? Tried reboot. Tried safe mode. Same issue every time.

Same story here on a 2011 iMac. The cursor moves, but that's it. Multiple reboots changes nothing. Everyone who comes to this thread should leave a comment -- let's drive up interest.

Same problem with white screen here on late 2010 iMac with SSD and 2TB hard drive. Tried all 'fixes' mentioned but no success. Help please Apple! Another troublesome Apple 'upgrade'!
