Jun 28, 2015 1:02 PM in response to crystalshipby MacsSince1984,Unfortunately, Ars Technica lost some of their lustre in my eyes when they praised Yosemite to the skies in their extremely lengthy and detailed positive review of it - 25 pages! - by John Siracusa - Oct 16, 2014
OS X 10.10 Yosemite: The Ars Technica Review
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/os-x-10-10/25/There was not one word, to the best of my recollection, about the blurry font problem, despite complaints from real users everywhere, which soon thereafter lit up the internet after they followed Siracusa's unqualified praise and upgraded their Macs to Yosemite.

Jul 5, 2015 1:43 AM in response to Philippe Mionby sfdt,Interesting thread. I bought a Mac Mini (Late 2014) to see whether I would want to move to Apple. Immediately noticed the blurry fonts; tried all the fixes without any success. Currently back to Windows on the same computer (Boot Camp), and the same Samsung monitor. Text is perfectly clear and crisp. I do not understand how this could be ignored in every update - perhaps some (most?) people are simply not bothered by the blurry fonts? I decided to wait for El Capitan - doubt this will ever be addressed in Yosemite - and then probably permanently back to Windows.

Aug 6, 2015 2:45 PM in response to Philippe Mionby vigneshfromwiesbaden,Dear all,
Have found a fantastic solution to the blurry fonts issue. Check out the link below
http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/advanced-tips-for-mac-os-x-yosemit e-3582877/
please navigate to TIP 17, where in there is a link to download a small patch to install the LUCIDA GRANDE font back to YOSEMITE. It works brilliantly and all the blurriness is off. While you are at it, try some of the other tips as well, especially the dark mode. It looks and feels real awesome.
With the LUCIDA GRANDE installed, you can actually enable the font smoothening option. It makes it better. This solution works perfect for the Non Retina display machines.
Cheers
Vignesh

Sep 24, 2015 1:51 AM in response to vigneshfromwiesbadenby mattiapetrucciani,Guys, does anyone know if El Capitan will fix (or at least alleviate a bit) this frustrating issue? They changed the font to 'San Francisco' so I'm hoping they made a good pick..
thanks!

Sep 24, 2015 4:38 AM in response to mattiapetruccianiby Jonathan Doyle,It's fixed on my 27" iMac with 10.11, the new font is much better. It's annoying that it took Apple so long to fix it.

Sep 27, 2015 12:55 AM in response to mattiapetruccianiby enryfox,Trying El Capitan 10.11.1 beta on my iMac 20" and so far so good. Beside the new UI font (San Francisco) the random blurriness seems fixed.
It took apple one year and one major release to address this annoying issue, but at least now it's fixed.

Sep 30, 2015 3:00 PM in response to Jonathan Doyleby lethalfang,My external monitor is an HP E231. The font still looks crappy on El capitan. This is my company provided Mac, as I've always used Linux before and have never had this problem.
How do you turn off anti-aliasing? Unchecking the "font smoothing" button did not help enough.

Aug 17, 2016 12:24 PM in response to Philippe Mionby mattfromsnohomish,I had the same problem. Blurry text on all applications. Sometimes it helped to re-boot then it kept happening more often. I called Apple support and they had me do a PRAM reset. Shut down computer then restart while holding down Cmd + Opt + P + R. Hope that helps. Fixed mine for now.
