Share button in Yosemite Safari not working, showing "No Service"

User uploaded file

After upgrading to Yosemite, the share button in Safari does not show any options. It shows only a "No Service" message. Has any one else have such a problem? Do you have any suggestions? It is a personal mac book pro at home.

Here how I repaired the bugs in Notification Center

After posting that Terminal command fix, the rep and I worked on the Notifications issue. Although both Notifications and sharing bugs seem to glitch at the same time, the Terminal command patch didn't fix the Notifications issue. The rep had me do something very simple next. Frankly, I am embarrassed that I forgot about this fix.

I rebooted into Safe Mode.

Restart your computer and hold down the shift key when you hear the restart sound. You should see your Mac display a thin progress bar. Keep holding down that shift key until you see "Safe Mode" on the top right of the screen. This will be a slow process. (It was for me.) Be patient. Your Mac is fixing things and restoring many settings, permissions, etc. back to default.

Log into your account. Your Mac might be sluggish. This is normal. The screen may glitch a bit. This is new with Yosemite. The rep was as surprised as I was. Once I was into my account, I tested the Notification Center and saw that all installed widgets were displaying and the items list showed all uninstalled widgets. Sharing services were also still working.

I restarted the Mac without holding down the shift key and logged back into my user account. Notification widgets remained fixed.

I can't attest this is a permanent solution since it's only been a few hours, but this is what Safe Mode does. It fixes things. The rep hypothesized that there may have been some directory damage or a file not configured properly during the install of Yosemite. Give it a shot and let me know if it worked for you, too. As of this moment, Notification Center works perfectly. (Well, except that Weather widget won't stick to where I want it to be. But I didn't want to be on the phone anymore to fix something so trivial.)

I'm firing off comments quickly here and reread mine to you. It comes across more glib than I had intended.

Even if you have never done this before, this is a very simple operation in Terminal. Copy the long command string from the Apple page that I shared earlier. Open Terminal. Paste the string into Terminal and hit your return key. You will need to wait while it works through a lot of files. When it is done you will see the sharing button works properly now.

If this still scares you, you should consider making an appointment with an Apple Genius, then bring your Mac into an Apple Store for them to do the fix for you. Good luck.

What do you mean by "nothing happened"? Do you mean nothing happened in the Terminal when you hit return? Or do you mean nothing changed after you ran the command? As for Safe Mode, perhaps it only worked for my Notifications Problem. Otherwise, the tech support page that Apple posted today (linked earlier) would have mentioned Safe Mode.

Also, if you call Apple again, try to get a tech who will be willing to remotely share your screen so he or she can see what happens as you make changes. I found that helpful when I worked with my tech.

Actually, I found the Apple link you gave me (I had a few emails from posters like you, so I missed it the first time), and copied the command to put into the terminal, and here it is:

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed

Previously, I don't recall if it was you or someone else who posted the command to input to the Terminal, the last two words (-kill -seed) were missing.

Anyway, now I can share web sites.

Thanks to all who replied to me and tried to help (and you did).
