received a email stating that my apple id is locked. but when i look at the from it says.."noreply@whirlpool.net.au" when did apple stop using their own mail servers?

or is this a scam/phissing ?

It's phishing. Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com and then delete it.

If there's an actual problem, you'll find out when you access the iTunes Store, not by email.
