it is really annoying, and quite bothering on my part. I tried clicking the "more info..." tab as instructed by the popup/ notification, which led me to the webpage of java, and this is a screenshot of what I got

so I've downloaded the .dmg file of the Java 8 update and installed it on my computer, did a check on my safari browser settings to see if the Java plugin is activated and, it is. Hoping that that the trick I rebooted my mac again and voila! the same popup appears again. I hope you could help me on this one guys, any suggestions for a quick fix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - that seemed to work. But why do I need client-side Java in the first place? It seems so, well, 1990's-ish. Glad you found a solution!

A lady, Hanna, at Google Chrome pointed me to a Reddit post, which said download JDK, which is Java Development Kit.  I did, and I haven't seen that *%$&# box all day.  It's a LITTLE complicated; let me start you with the reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/osx/comments/2ik6hu/to_view_this_web_content_you_need_t o_install_java/

It seems to have worked for a lot of people, including me, with a 2009 MBP, Yosemite, Chrome 39.x (64 bit).

    It'll probably work for you.

You don't need the JDK, which is the complete development kit, only the JRE component. I'd uninstall it and install the JRE.

Baltwo, if that means Java 8.25, I did, it was active in my Chrome browser, and the box still showed up, just as often.

But I haven't seen it since installing JDK.

No, that means Java SE 6 version 1.6.0.65, which comes with Java for OS X 2014-001.

    Baltwo,

Well, whatever.  I'm 71, and found the whole thing pretty confusing.  The link in the bad box took me to a Java page that didn't even mention JRE.

And there were no answers from Apple or Java.  Just Chrome's Hanna, who gave me a tip that I followed, and it worked.  That's all I know.

Well, since I'm eight months away from the three-quarter century mark, 71 makes you a youngster. I gave you the link to http://support.ap ple.com/kb/DL1572 (remove the space between ap and ple to make it a link).  While that page doesn't mention the JRE, that's all it provides. The rest of Java's components are already installed.

Thanks LucyFerarum, you put me on to the right trail to get this fixed finally. All these other posts instructing to install and old Java library are not correct, nor is installing the JDK really fixing the issue. The com.facebook.videochat.* was also the offending startup process causing the issue for me.

Here are the steps I used to correct, as even after removal from Launch control it kept returning on reboot:

    1. Open a Terminal Prompt

    2. Show non Apple startup Agents. At $ execute "launchctl list | grep -v apple", will look something like the following.

    PID Status Label

    - 0 org.openbsd.ssh-agent

    282 0 com.symantec.symsecondarylaunch.application

    274 0 com.symantec.quickmenu.application

    - 0 com.google.keystone.system.agent

    - 0 com.valvesoftware.steamclean

    - 0 com.oracle.java.Java-Updater

    276 0 com.Logitech.Control Center.Daemon

    302 0 com.google.Chrome.62228

    - 1 com.facebook.videochat.Chad.updater

    295 0 com.symantec.scannotification.application

    - 0 net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.LaunchAtLogin

    275 0 com.symantec.savdiskmountnotify.application

    317 0 net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.119880

One of the returned items is likely your issue, mine was also "com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.updater"

    3. Change to the Agents directory, "cd ~/Library/LaunchAgents/"

    4. I also had to remove the actual agent files, as it kept re-appearing on reboot. You can view those on your system and remove. List out the items in directory "ls"

    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-lingmann@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

    com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist

    com.valvesoftware.steamclean.plist

    net.tunnelblick.tunnelblick.LaunchAtLogin.plist

    org.virtualbox.vboxwebsrv.plist

    4. From ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ execute "rm com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist"

    5. Also remove from Launch control with "launchctl remove com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.updater"

    6. Exit and reboot

Hope this helps someone else, this has been and extremely annoying issue.

    Zeusal,

What percentage of Apple users do you suppose can do all that, and care to try it?

"My" method had many fewer steps, and worked.  Simpler is better.  For me, anyway.

Then, you did not install the SE 6 JRE, but instead the SE 8 JRE.

I wouldn't recommend using the UNIX command line to everyone, but, for me, this was the best solution.  It made sense and only took a moment to complete.  Thanks Zeusal!

Agreed. Do not use Terminal, it is completely unnecessary.

    1) Right-click Finder

    2) Select 'Go To Folder'

    3) Type in the search window " ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ "

    4) If available, right-click the file " com.facebook.videochat.USERNAME.plist "

    5) Select " Move to Trash "

    6) Empty Trash

    7) Restart Mac. Message should no longer be popping up.

    It worked perfectly for me!

I totally agree, it is just like something "not Apple".

Same thing here, but the page that you refer to looks broken and it refers me to the Oracle web site for the latest Java version.  I've done that, several times, and I still get the message at startup.  Two questions:

In 2015 how do I fix this?  The 2014 fix no longer works.

What is causing it?  What's trying to run Java when I log in to begin with?  Why does it say there's no Java when the latest Java IS installed?  (Okay, that's many questions!)
