Oct 17, 2014 9:01 AM in response to MonsterGardenby Allan Eckert,No. If you wipe the drive you are going to have to start from the install DVD for you Mac and whatever version of OS X it has.
Personally I see the erase and install method of upgrading OS X as a totally waste of time. I have used the upgrade for the last five upgrades without any problems.

Oct 17, 2014 9:27 AM in response to Allan Eckertby MonsterGarden,The main reason I want to is the following. My 2007 MB's battery was dead, didn't replace it, but still powered up plugged in and was being used by my kids. They were careless enough to accidentally unplug it without a proper shut down many times until it had faulty system folder and would not start properly.
I restored it with the start up disk and installed to it's latest OS, 10.8 I think.
It ran surprisingly faster than it did before and THAT is why I thought I'd do it for my MBP. It runs kinda sluggish and I don't want to increase the RAM either.
It is not something I do before every major OS update, just timing.

Oct 17, 2014 9:46 AM in response to MonsterGardenby Allan Eckert,I prefer to find the reason for any slowdown in performance and fix it rather then expending all of the energy to do an erase and reinstall of the operating system and everything else. It is sually easier for me to do that method.

Oct 17, 2014 10:17 AM in response to MonsterGardenby MonsterGarden,Also running Mavericks with 4GB. I've read that that amount can make it slow down, but even before going to Mavericks I noticed it.
No intensive gaming/graphic productivity apps. Basically switching between Word, Safari, Preview, Firefox and sometimes Chrome. Will be doing more coding soon with Coda 2 as well.
