Mar 24, 2015 12:27 PM in response to daverstevensby TimB69,Ok - try this, go to apple logo - about this Mac and click system report, Select Bluetooth - under LMP Version, if its anything below 0x6 you do not have Bluetooth 4.0, so maybe purchase an Orico BTA-402 USB Bluetooth 4.0 dongle.
My Bluetooth is so much less temperamental.

Mar 30, 2015 10:07 AM in response to mommuby JonTemple,i found a really terrible solution on apples behalf: boot into windows. zero issues in windows. i have a 2007 macbook pro santa rosa with bluetooth 2.0 and the fact that its only 2.0 is definitely not the problem. i had a phone and tablet both with 2.0 and never had a problem listening to music or watching movies on them. but with a clean yosemite install on this laptop, my bluetooth audio lags and skips, and when i boot into my clean windows 8.1 install (with bootcamp 5.1.2) bt audio is just fine. ive tried every obscure method listed in this thread to try to fix it and nothing works. its not a hardware issue, its a software issue. which explains why so many people are complaining about it. come on apple, i shouldnt have to boot into windows for functionality on a mac.

Apr 3, 2015 6:48 PM in response to mommuby adieswift,I have been having a similar problem for a while, since updating to Yosemite. I'm not sure if anyone else has already covered this but I now believe my lag / stuttering is partly caused by bluetooth signal strength. I was getting RSSI value of 72, which apparently is quite poor according to this link: http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/how-to-check-bluetooth-connection-strength-in-os-x /
0 to -60 --> good
-61 to -70 --> OK
-71 to -90 --> poor
less than -90 --> bad
One thing I didn't realise is that you can check the signal strength for each device and other advanced options by holding the option button and clicking the bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
I moved my Bose Soundlink mini and the strength improved. Not an ideal solution as it worked fine before Yosemite but definitely an improvement.
Hope that helps

Apr 4, 2015 10:15 AM in response to adieswiftby TimB69,Thanks for the info regards "alt/option and clicking bluetooth" didn't know about that, pretty interesting.
I bought a bluetooth 4.0 USB Dongle, I had to run a Terminal command because the Mac was still looking for the internal Bluetooth board.
Could only have the keyboard connected with the headphones to prevent the audio stuttering problem, but the device connection speeds are like lightning.
If you purchase an external USB Bluetooth, type the following command followed by a restart:
sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehaviour=always
To go back to default type the following, followed by a reboot:
sudo nvram -d bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior

Apr 10, 2015 3:30 PM in response to mommuby JACOBTheProblemSolver,I 'was' having the same problem with my Hudl 2 and kitsound Bluetooth headset but I managed to locate the problem, and what this problem is, is an app is interfering with Bluetooth connections and making it lag, in my case an app called 'Battery' so I reccomend just deleting apps you recently downloaded and you should get a fine Bluetooth connection in no time, Hope I helped

Jun 15, 2015 11:57 AM in response to mommuby AlinM,Ladies and gents, please do try this.
I've been having the same issue for months now. Tried every possible solution I could find, still to no end (as you probably have already, if you're still here). The crackling sound was never out of the 5 min range. Here is, however, what worked for me absolutely flawlessly for the past couple of hours.
Change the channel on your wifi router. You are probably getting interference.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both occupy a section of the 2.4 GHz ISM band that is 83 MHz-wide. Bluetooth uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and is allowed to hop between 79 different 1 MHz-wide channels in this band.
Changing the setting depends on the model of the router - here is a link on how to scan and choose for channels, and here is one on changing the channel.
I read through each and every one of your posts and I completely understand your despair, so I came back here to publish this. I hope it works at least for some of you as it does for me.
And thanks perry1023 from Reddit for his answer.

Jun 29, 2015 5:23 PM in response to mommuby vernonlloyd,Same issue here MBP 15" Early 2011 and MBP 2012. Logitech UE Bluetooth stuttering/lagging.
Works great on my iPhone with no problems at all.
I'm using 3.5mm audio cable to have a smooth audio playback on my MBP's. So much for bluetooth :\
