Q: Windows 7 partition gone after installing Yosemite

Hi!

I recently installed Yosemite (OS X 10.10) and now when I was going to boot my Windows 7 partition (by holding down 'alt' when booting) I realized that it's gone.

When I checked Disk Utility this is what I found:

The Boot Camp partition is not there. But there's a new partition (Have not seen it before) called disk0s4 and it needs to be repaired. I assume this is my no longer working Boot Camp partition (?)

Should I just choose the recovery option when booting and use an back up from yesterday for the disk called 1TB HD? Or what should I do to get the Windows 7/Boot Camp partition back?

I'm using a late 2009 iMac 27"

    Hi Loner T,

I'm having the same issue as well.  Hopefully this issue can be resolved.  I don't want to revert to my last backup since I will be missing some data.

Hey, I need help with possibly recovering a Windows 10 bootcamp I had. I'm on a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, and Windows 10 was booting fine. I decided one day to boot back into OSX (10.8) and just play around with it a bit. When I tried to get back to Windows though, I found that it had been replaced by a greyed out 'diskOs4' in disk utility that could not be mounted. Holding down option also could not read it.

Please start a new discussion. El Capitan Upgrade can cause problems with installed Windows. It may still be recoverable.

From/run Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, triple-click each of the following highlighted lines, Copy each line using (Command+C) and Paste (Command+V) in Terminal window. Post the output and after editing it to remove any personal information.

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

Im not on Capitan, I am on OSX 10.8 (cant remember the cat name of it...) and I didnt upgrade my OS or anything when this happened. All I did was boot into OSX to grab some files I left in it to transfer to windows.
