"Messages is updating" - does not finish

Since I have updated to Yosemite, this is the only message I get when logging into messages. I have tried several times, once overnight. Also repaired permissions, but no fix. Please help!

Hi,

Open a Finder window.

Use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.

Select the Library item that is now in the menu list.

Navigate to Messages.

In here is a folder called Attachments.

Sometimes and an Upgrade it can become corrupt and appear as if it is a file.

if this is the case rename the "file" and Create a New Folder and call it Attachments.

If you have a back up then Open the Folder and Restore the contents.

After that create an Alias on the folder and put it in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages

Hi,

In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in the path:-

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages

This should contain the Archive folder and the Alias to the Attachments folder.

One is the storage place and the other is the Read/Write route.

In a Finder window go to the View Menu > Show Path Bar.

This will show you the location by folder across the bottom of the window so that when you use the Alias you can see you have moved to ~/Library/Messages
