Q: Safari running slow in Yosemite

Thanks for replying, but I have to take back my previous comment. Safari continues to give me trouble, websites get slower and slower loading until they stop loading altogether. I've tried so many things, I don't even know anymore. Your solution worked for a bit, then the problems started again. So I've quit using Safari for now and am using Opera which is behaving MUCH better, I'm not constantly quitting and reloading with Opera. So I know it's not a virus, it's actually a Safari problem. Unless a virus can infect one browser and not another? Anyhow, I've given up on Safari for now

Oops, pitseolak, my earlier comment shouldn't have been addressed to you but to someone named scott. I now see that you weren't replying to me even though I got an email notice.

I too have this issue.  The Macbook I am using is two weeks old, Safari does not respond or takes a long long time to load a page.  I have tried everything suggested and it appears to work for a while, then if the Macbook goes into sleep mode, you wake it up and the problem comes back.  I know it is not my ISP, since I have an older Macbook that works perfectly!

I am on the verge of ditching Safari.

Your problem is slightly different from mine; my Safari behaves okay when first up from sleep, but the longer it's up the slower and worse it gets. I'm using Opera right now and some pages might take a while to load, but the problems are very mild, nothing compared to Safari. I wonder why an Apple tech doesn't give us some different advice on how to fix this, or how they're going to fix it. We've already tried all the suggestions, as if it's something we were doing wrong. Maybe they don't want us to use Safari. It's only my spare browser now, I only open it if something isn't supported in Opera, but other than that I've ditched Safari and spend much less time now sitting, waiting, quitting, reloading and giving up. All these comments in here but no real answers from Apple

After considerable investigation I discovered the cause of my issue.  It was nothing to do with Safari itself, but the WiFi connection was unstable.  I use a 5ghz connection, and the connection from the Macbook to the router was dropping intermittently.   I had a constant ping going on and this confirmed the connection was dropping all the time.  After some research and advice on these forums, I have now configured my WiFi to keep the connection up, and therefore the Safari issue has gone away.
