OS X Yosemite install did not update recovery partition

Hi, I just installed OS X Yosemite, and tried to go to the recovery partition in order to perform a fresh install.

However, my recovery partition is still showing as 10.9 Mavericks.

The Yosemite install did not update the recovery partition.

What can I do?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I was able to apply this fix described earlier in another forum, which was supposed to heal a similar issue with beta and developer preview versions. I certainly took the InstallESD.dmg file from the official "Install OS X Yosemite.app" (which in my case I had to re-download), but otherwise followed instructions.

Caution: This is stuff on the command line and fiddles with your recovery partition.

It does NOT seem to change the partition table, though. I have a Boot Camp setup with Windows on a second partition: All 3 partitions (Mac, Windows, Recovery) are still working fine after applying above fix. And the Recovery Partition is now named "Recovery 10.10" as expected and does offer to reinstall Yosemite and no longer Mavericks.

Hello, i've got the same problem, i've just update my macbookpro10,4 from Mavericks to Yosemite, but when i restart with option key the only recovery i have is 10.9.1 😕

I've already reinstall Yosemite from a external disk (try something) but nothing change…

What i'm understanding from your reply is that you installed the beta recovery, isn't it ?

thanks

I installed the recovery from the officially released product, not from a beta or developer preview. You can just re-download from the App Store if your "Install OS X Yosemite.app" has been deleted already after the original install. And I took the recovery partition contents (the file InstallESD.dmg) from the package content of that official app.

(And since then I've even done a "clean install", i.e. wipe disk and reinstall. And I did that successfully from the recovery partition.)

Antoine,

Follow the link provided by birgerfromde. Just click on the text that says "this fix" and it will redirect you to a MacRumors forum post. Follow the steps provided in the very first post and it should restore your recovery partition. I just applied this fix last night and my recovery partition now functions normally. Just be cautious about what you are doing and I would suggest making a backup of your files via Time Machine or whatever other means you use. Big thanks to birgerfromde for finding this gem. My recovery partition has not been functional since the last major Mavericks update.

I have exactly the same situation. I have a Boot Camp partition, which still works just fine, but the Recovery HD is still labelled as, and is the Mavericks one (10.9).

I have updated the OS on this machine (a mid 2011 iMac) more than once, and the Recovery partition has always updated to the correct version.

I trust Apple will look into this, if only for neatness sake, as I have Time Machine and also use Carbon Copy Cloner on external HDs. I have only had to use the Recovery partition as a means to use Disk Utility from another boot partition. Mavericks uses version 13, and this appears to be untouched in Yosemite.

I didn't do a clean install, because I have lots of paswords and special things on my hard disc.

So this isn't an option for me. I don't want to format the disc. It will take me hours of work to get everything installed again. That's why I did choose for updating the old system, instead of doing a clean install. I really hope Apple will provide a solution for this in the next Yosemite update !!!!
