USB wifi adapter: got DHCP IP, but no outside internet

I just bought and installed a USB wifi adapter:

Bolse® USB Network adapters, 300Mbps Wifi Wireless-N USB Micro Mini Adapter with High Gain Antenna - Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8; Mac OS X 10.5 Greater

I am installing it on a G5 running 10.5. I got all the way to having the new "Ethernet" (that's how it shows up) interface in Network, and the little light next to it is green - it got an IP address via DHCP from my router, and has the right subnest mask and router IP showing. I set the DNS server to 8.8.8.8. Its Wireless Network Utility is showing 100% signal. Everything looks good, but when I go to google.com from a browser, it just says "looking up google.com" and nothing ever happens. It also can't connect by IP to 10.0.1.1 (my router). What's going on - how do I debug this?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
