I need help! The fonts are so small and pale I can't see to use the tool bar (Safari). Any way to increase the size? or make BOLD?

Instead of hyjack this thread, you really should start your own thread for your problem so that it gets the consideration it deserves.

HI - I to would like to get back to Maverics for the short time till Apple gets things staightened out.  I have a mid 2010 17" MBP.  I have heard that older than 2011 Macs cannot do the Command R recovery without the backup operating system disk.  Am I alright to do this with TM even though I'm an older Mac.

I am stuck in FireVault as well - 28% complete for 3 days.  Thanks so much for the help.

Hey Allan, I just did the Yosemite update yesterday and already have problems with email.  (Accounts have disappeared and inbox only contains the new mail for my iCloud account).  Dreading what other problems may arise after looking at the community page. Any ideas on the email fix? Oh, and by the way my iPad does show all my email accounts and all my new mail in the inbox.  Good thing i have more than one way to access my email!

" Will increasing my Ram, make my iMac work properly again, or will it only help a little. Currently I have two 1 GB RAM installed. Also how long will it work? "

In short, no. I have 12GB of RAM and 10.10 would suck almost ever bit of ram out of this..
Constant rebooting, restarting programs, changing system settings. Nothing helped.

I downgraded last night back to 10.9.5, my 2011 Mac is running great again.

Seriously Apple you need to sort out your software issues, it seems that you have gone backwards instead of forwards recently when launching new products. It is impossible to work like this and considering the rates you charge for your products I expect better as a loyal customer. Are you offering a solution for these problems? Are you going to fix these software issues any time soon?

You seem to be under the impression that you are addressing Apple directly here. Let me assure you, that everybody currently participating here is a user just like you. Although it's certainly possible that somebody from Apple is reading any of this, most employees are far to busy working on known issues to have the time right now. If, after you have given your system 24 hours to re-build all necessary databases, you are still having issues and feel the need to communicate such things to Apple you need to give them Feedback or get yourself a free Developer Account and use Bug Reporter.

Sorry to have abandoned you, but I had a minor medical emergency to deal with and am still running way behind.

Not sure why the recovery got hung up. Certainly USB 2.0 is going to be much slower than what you will get with almost any other option these days, but it still should have eventually finished.

Unfortunately, my expertise is mostly in the Malware area, which is what brought me here in the first place. Although I've done a couple of OS X restorations myself, I'm sure there are others more qualified than I who can help.

This discussion has gotten way too big and much of what you had to say has become lost in the noise.  Perhaps it's time to start your own discussion, describing your current problem which will draw more people who are better than I at getting answers for you. Just make sure you give them a complete rundown of what you have done so far and details of the problem.

Hey Thanks for getting back to me- i ended up stopping the process and trying three more times each with the same result - a stuck start up screen after supposedky the information had transferred. on the fourth time i decided to instead of Restoring, Reinstalling the OS. this process was successful and actually after i restarted the machine i found all my files from the date I had originally tried to Restore from there and available. i checked the dates and they indeed stopped around the first week of September. i did a search for the folder JavaW and nothing came up I did an Adware Medic and things seemed fine.

I did an Etrecheck  - here is my computer now 0- if you have the time could tell if it looks ok?

sorry to hear about your emergency hopefully everything is ok and thanks for the help

You might want to check into these two in Launch Daemons (and uninstall according to their instructions unless you absolutely have to have them):

This update was incompatible with maybe 50% of my applications (VMWare Fusion, a number of java apps, email clients, word processing programs, ...).

Add iMovie HD to the list.

hey thanks for the look over of my system. those two files, judging by their name, are 2 small pieces of software - 1 attachment tamer allows pictures to be attached in email without a full image view in the email . the other the rogue media one is for an application that allows me to record from any source on my computer. it must start up the program on startup. i could be wrong cause i dont know the lingo but from their file names thats what i can guess. thanks

I've managed to fix, most of my problems on my own, but not all of them. My iMacs speed is still 'super' slow, and I get a message stating that my current version of Java is out of date, no matter how many times, I download the correct version from the Java site, meant for Yosemite.

The problems that are occurring, most definitely are effecting more then just a couple of us.  I understand that this message won't be read by apple, but I still remember a time, about 5 years ago when their customer support was very helpful. I don't know if it still is, but has anyone who has applecare phoned apple, and if they had, what did apple suggest.

Some apps still require Java SE 6 from Apple, and if you installed Yosemite over a previous OS X it was removed. If that's what it is offering to install for you, go ahead as the Apple version goes into a different location than the Oracle Java SE 8 goes. Both can be used with Yosemite without conflicting with each other.

You've been extremely helpful. Thank you so much!!
